Charging Cowon D3 with USB cable and iPod power adaptor to mains

I recently bought the Cowon D3 from AdvancedMP3 and I was reading that the Cowon D3 can be charged with the USB cable and a power supply adaptor connected to the mains. However, I have tried this without success. Every time I try it the screen goes crazy and I cannot switch the display off for it to charge. The reason I ask is because I accidentally left my D3 charger at home and need to charge it.

Any ideas?

Don't trust Apple's AC adapter. They do unexpected things to make them work specifically with their products. Any "standard/generic" AC>USB adapter should do better, and see if you can find one putting out one amp (1000ma) or better it'll work faster then a 500ma adapter. To make it worth the effort though, turn off WiFi and bluetooth, and keep the screen off while it charges.

Whenever I have tried to charge my D3 with it's native USB adapter, not even the Apple one, the screen goes crazy, too. I can't turn it off because it doesn't want to charge when it is off, it constantly pops up some message, and I don't believe it charges at all.
