TheFloorIsLava! is now ready, and many changes have been made since v0.5
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jRf9ADIKgog/ThMylEUlobI/AAAAAAAAAzY/cZhuZwCH5JQ/tfilv1_1.png

Download v1.2.0(latest) (http://www.mediafire.com/?7mgexprt5r3ldu7)

Changes and notes:

v1.2.0 Major update!
- New Feature: The ball will now "roll" like a marble
- New Feature: Added new game mode "tunnel" (still a little laggy)
- Changed around some menus for new game mode
- removed calibration :
why: calibration causes the ball to jump around, which is no good in a game like Lava! that requires careful control. Until I find a away to calibrate the g-sensor without having it jump around it is better off not having it at all.
-fixed some little bugs

v1.1.5
- fixed issue that the g-sensor was not being calibrated at all
- the version label says "v1.1.4". my bad, but it is actually 1.1.5.

v1.1.4
-fixed that some levels were close to impossible to play

[note for this version] if the game starts on a random level and the g-sensor doesn't work, re-download the file.

v1.1.3
-Renamed the the game to just "Lava!"
-added a small version number to the mainmenu
-made the ball go faster (20% faster)

v1.1.2
- fixed J3 controls
-icons are included in download

v1.1
-Added credits screen
- added highscores screen, the game saves your highscore
-Darkened colors to make it less of a pain to your eyes :)
- added g-senor control fix for J3, it should automatically detect the device and correct the controls (thanks to Kizune)
- to pause you just press the screen, this should make it easier than having to tap a corner
- You can now retry a level 2 times (so 3 lives total)
-added coins : touch coins to get 1 piont, but they are not needed to advance to the next level
-added a bunch of new levels.
-G-sensor jitter fix : The ball should no longer jitter around becuase of the g-sensor's outlying readings. It works very well on the the S9, not tested on the J3.

Please give me feedback on the game and bugs, ect if you find any.

Instructions to install as a Lynx icon
1. Download the zip and extract it somewhere on your computer.
2. Copy lava.png and lava__l.png to System/Flash UI/Lynx/custom icons on your S9/J3
3. Then open System/Flash UI/Lynx/custom_icons.xml in a simple text editor, like notepad
4. Add the following line in between the <icon> and </icon> tags

<icon name="lava" type="Flash" file="Lava.swf" />

5. Go back to the files you downloaded, and copy Lava.swf into Flash/ on your S9/J3
6. The icon will now be available in Lynx
7. To update the game, download the latest version and just overwrite Flash/Lava.swf on your S9/J3

I'm still taking level designs!
If you think of a good idea for a level, describe it to me in a P.M. or make an example image, and I will try to include the level in future versions of the game. you also will be noted in the credits screen.

s9 style reversed controls on my j3 still, at least horizontally (vertically in the game), but glad your considering the option,,,looks good :)

also if you could allow the ball to move maybe 30-40% off the edge without dying it would feel more like a ball than a circle.

good catch. Updated and should be fixed. However, I can't allow the player to go partly into tha lava for multiple reasons.
1.) It makes the game too easy
2.) There is no reasonable way to do it.

Just played it for a few levels and the moving objects are pretty awesome tbh! This is by far the most adictive game on the j3 yet. Doesnīt have much time now but will play more this evening, canīt wait to reach level 14 ;)

edit: Played some more but can't get past the second level with moving objects, They are going to fast :(

Great work! I have a suggestion though: In the interest of more levels, you could create a time limit on each (the less time you do it in, the more points, and if you can't complete it in the allotted amount, you lose a life). Also, I found a bug: the volume can't be adjusted while the game is being played! Again, great game and keep up the good work!

The volume???? There isnt supposed to be sound at all!!!

Perhaps he uses a J3. It has the feature that you can listen to music while playing Flash games.

It is not problem of Lynx anymore. It is problem of mine, 'cause I didnt know about "Flash", not "Launcher" =)

Ok, I will try to add support for hardware buttons for the next release. I did not know of the J3's feature!

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough! I meant the volume of the song you're listening to (if you're listening to the radio/music while you're playing the game) - and yes, I am using a J3.

thanks for this game
it's really nice!!
you should also try something like a labyrinth game where you have the way out with a ball !

you cant change volume during a flash game on a j3 anyway.... the volume and track buttons are used as (up down left right) keys

and u need the play/pause hardware button to exit the game/go back to the menu. can u implement an "exit" button into the gamemenu?
edit: i'm finally able to have a signature :D

Perhaps he uses a J3. It has the feature that you can listen to music while playing Flash games.

and u can listen to the flash audio (its written in the manual page 25: flash)
the flash audio has less priority than the music/radio audio. so u have to turn it off first but atm there's no audio in this game^^

my question is: can u add new icons (like lava) into the dynamic square menu? i just added the swf files into the flash folder :>

chickenbellyfinn

Dynamic square? Do you mean the cube UCI?

I do not own a J3 but I am pretty sure that you can not add icons to that. If you want to add custom icons then use Lynx.

just out or curiosity has anyone beaten the game yet? I am deciding whether I should add more levels? Where are you getting stuck?

if you will add level numbers i will tell you where im stuck - im to lazy to count.
anyway im getting better all the time so hopefully i will soon pass that level...

cbf: What exactly was your "breakthrough?" just curious

briant1234
07-15-2011, 11:50
errrr... i think calibration is needed cbf. with out calibration, holding the j3 parallel to the ground causes it to go down[confused] so i died 3 times on the first level, and i didnt even get to move at all.

if you implemented an exit button, that would mean rotating the game to that it works in lynx's launcher mode

Excellent Game!! Very polished, and not at all laggy or glitchy! Just a suggestion, could you add a countdown before the game starts, after you hit the retry or other buttons to start the game? For example, you'd hit the retry button, and it would say 3...2...1...GO! then the marble would start rolling. Because as it is it just feels like you're jumping into the game it's kind of disorientating.
Otherwise, it's looking good!! I wish there were more developers of Cowon-device apps and games... still waiting for a proper scientific calculator... :'(

Thanks everyone for your posts, I'll hopefully get the next one out soon. I am still taking level design, but this time for more difficult levels.
guidlines:
-can be in any format (image, drawing, word document, ect)
- there is lava, which can be animated to move, change size
- all lava is right angles, and you can have circular lava if you wish

If you design a level, you will be me mentioned in credits

I actually just found a proper scientific calculator! It's by zilimojo, and is absolutely amazing. [thumbsup]

errr maybe wrong thread dude...

oh and cbf: calibration is needed since the ball rolls up even when j3 is flat

cbf any update?

any chance of a g-sensor indicator someplace?

..like a lil + in the corner where the rods get longer n shorter or a radar setup (or something to that effect),just so you can see if you have the device flat before things start rolling, rather than guessing then having the ball fall off n then after about 20 repetitions wanting to stamp the device into the floor and ask it how fkn flat it is now:)
