Hi, I'm n00b (from Riovolution) and I was trying to fix my little brother's G3. It had the initial out of the box firmware in it, but a little while ago it would have a bunch of glitches with the UI. For example, if you selected a folder named "MUSIC" it would show "MUSIC" then "MUSICMUSICMUSICMUSIC" etc. and continue to scroll. Basically any item you highlighted would repeat its name without spaces over and over again. Also, if you rewind back through the beginning of a song into the end of the previous song, the player would freeze and restart and resume the song that was last played from maybe 2 sessions ago. So in an attempt to fix this, I tried updating the firmware. I downloaded 1.30 and took the battery out, connected it to my PC via USB, installed the drivers, went to Start - > Programs etc. until I got to the fw update icon. When I clicked it (I was holding play on the unit), it found new hardware and I installed drivers. I didn't let it automatically detect, for some reason (it was late at night) I think I tried to select the drivers myself, and I just told Windows to search in the iAudio folder for the drivers. After the drivers were installed, I completed the firmware update. I restarted the computer, put in a battery and pressed play. Nothing. I tried connecting it to the PC. Nothing. I tried taking the battery out, connecting it, again, nothing. I tried the previous but while holding play, and nothing. Any help?

EDIT: If it means anything, the music on the G3 is ~q6 ogg IIRC. There's also a terrible gap between files (maybe I'm just used to the Karma) but it's so bad that the last word or so of the song is cut off.
Also, this should not suggest that iAudio makes bad products, but to any people researching about which flash player to get, remember that there are more topics about bad players than topics where people say that their DAP is working great (I would know, as a former Karma owner.. Everyone at riovolution would wonder about hard drive issues, and the same shouldn't happen to iAudio, which imo is a great brand and could get better if they had some more features like the Karma :p)

Your 'out of the box' problems are not firmware related unless you had a version that came out of the ark. Sounds to me like you have a hardware problem, and flashing new firmware will likely just move it around some. I'd send the unit back for repair/replace (I assume it's under warranty?)

There's nothing else I could do before honoring the warranty?

You could try reloading a version of the firmware in 'recovery mode', but the problems you have seeen and reported (MUSICMUSICMUSIC for instance) on't look like anything it should ever have done under any circumstances .. however if it had a hardware problem (bad memory area where the firmware is stored, or a processor fault of some kind, or similar) then anything is possible (and not user-repairable).
