Hi,
I just got my J3 and much like most of what I've seen, but I do have a couple of questions.
1. In youtube videos, one often sees a dictionary icon. Is that only Korea? Are there any English dictionaries for the J3?
2. Also, are there any flashcard programs for the J3 or flash 7?
3. The clock in the 'Counting Text' menu displays only in 12 hr mode in spite the fact that the clock is set to 24 hr mode. Also, the clock is slow; in fact, it loses over 2 hours.
4. I downloaded various clocks, calender etc. and put them into the Flash UI folder they don't display. Why could that be?
5. How do you find a bookmarked place? I can't find it in instructions or anywhere intuitively.
Thanks for any help!

1.I think there is a English dictionary in the latest firmware

2.dont think so....

4.thats not how it works, Flash UI folder is where you put UCIs...you have to put them in the flash folder and go find them.

... the clock is still awfully slow (apart from showing only 12 not 24 hr mode). i wanted to get the flip clock working and also a calender to see if they would display the same time. but the flip clock displayed only the wrong, way, i.e. covering the small part of the display. is there a way to display it properly without changing the UCI? i'm kind of scared of doing that now...
... and btw no dictionary in firmware 2.10 at least... anywhere else?

I have firmware 1.20. It's actually newer then the 2.10 firmware and does include an icon for the dictionary but I have no idea how it works. Apparently there is some program you can install to it too if you are a Korean trying to learn english. Keep in mind the 1.xx means Korean version I think but it will work on English-region player, you just have to switch the keyboard everytime to roman characters.

Oh and 1.20 def fixes the clock too. 2.20 SHOULD be out in coming weeks if you want to wait.

I haven't been able to get rid of the 3 extra Korean icons introduced from 1.20. [sad]

Been a bit busy Blixar. Will respond to you when I have more time.

1. I'm using firmware 2.10. There is no dictionary. But you can try to find a flash dictionary.

2. Dont know

3. Changing 12h/24h on settings works for me. And yes,the clock isnt working,it delays. The firmware that came out today should fix it( v2.21).

4. You have to put that on Flash Folder. And it will not auto-display,you need to acess the app. Those kind of home page displaying clocks or direct icons for apps, are UCI change. You can try out yourself some of them. If you dont like it just delete the files and everything will be back to standards. Know that there are no UCIs for J3. You can try S9 ones, but most of them may freeze or bug something(deleting UCI files and backing to standard should back to normal state) .

5. Bookmarks you find taping the upper left button when on listing view. eg.When listing songs you should tap the upper left button and until it changes to bookmarks.

Thanks everybody...
The clock thing of course also means that the alarm doesn't work.
What really bugs me out is the battery life. It seemed to me to be once around five, six hours so I did what I considered a fair test and listened to an audio book from audible (highest quality (they don't give kb/s); volume 25; their IEMs; no sound enhancement; the normal, brief, rare screen check and a couple of times back skip). It conked out after 9.09 hrs. Now, that's just not acceptable, it should be more with video viewing.
After running the battery low, though switching off on my own, it reset the clock to 00.00hrs.
Worse, Cowon didn't reply since the weekend to now to polite inquiries whether the 'bad batch' theory could be correct (or what?). Firmware 2.21 update doesn't appear to address anything I've come up against...

I really need to put mine to battery test. Lol the highest I EVER go with my UM3X's on volume is 10. Most of the time I listen to it 1-3 if it's nighttime. The W3's go a little higher safely, maybe 15.

I feel like the battery is holding up well, but as usual cowon makes a crappy battery meter (the one of the A3 sucks too... goes from full to 2/3rd and dies directly from there, whenever it feels like it).

1. If i play a song through the external speaker i have found the J3 turns off after a few minutes. I dont know if the external speaker has anything to do with it. But it has not happened with headphones yet.

Does anyone have this problem ?

2. Can you only turn the radio off via Buttons.

3. You can select music for the alarm, but you dont get to choose any music in particular. Is there a way to choose the songs, and if not - what does the J3 choose ?

.

I read your post. I'm waiting to see if there's an easier solution than a complete restoration to default settings. I'd like to keep my settings intact if possible. But I may have to restore to default settings.

well compared to the other guy who was talking about a complete format, I think that's much easier. The only way I could see it being a pain is if you had a ton of custom EQ settings.

I have 2.03 so does the latest firmware have the bug fixes from 2.10? Also I accidentally deleted my original Cowon Text documents (BBE, EUL) could someone post those for me?
Thank you!

Each new firmware replaces the older one, they aren't like updates so it won't matter if you have 2.03, 2.10 or 2.21.

Whatever doesn't sound too loud and hurt your ears.

It (ofcourse) depends on your ears (age), EQ, song etc...
