View Full Version : One playlist with files from both external and internal storage?

Is there a way to create a single playlist that contains files from both internal and external memory on the J3? My music collection won't all fit in the internal memory, so I have some of it on a microSD card, but now I have no idea how to create a playlist with songs from both sources.

I've been searching the internet for the answer for the past couple of hours to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edited to add: I tried to create a playlist with just external memory items just now, in MTP mode, and it doesn't even show up on the device when I go to Browser > Playlists.

Except for the 256 file limit... and the fact that you can only have one. The problem is I have both music and audiobooks on the microSD card, and what I'm trying to do is make the player be able to play only music, but from both internal and external memory, while excluding the audiobook files from its "hit list".

Also, I flashed my player from firmware 1.10 to 2.10 recently and that caused my painstakingly-created favorites list to disappear altogether. Never using that as a permanent "playlist" replacement again >_<

Well there realy is no good way of doing so, you could get one extra external memcard and put your audiobooks there, but thats a bit Meh.

Sorry to hear that, made me smile a bit thou :3

i for example have one extra MicroSD card with all of my porn and stuff like that on my Phone, so when i want to ... read the articles, i just pop it out of my phone and stick it in to the J3, works realy well (Nokia N61i btw)

Hmm... I may do just that, as soon as I figure out how to safely carry around the tiny extra microSD card.

As i stated out, a Phone is a best place to put it in, or if you have a case with a pocket on the side or something like that, but again, that's the last place you want to have your tiny Micro SD being

I actually already have one in my phone. But I can't take it out because it contains phone-related stuff... Sucks to have a phone with virtually no internal memory :)

Oh poop, well, you could get a bigger card for your phone, and use it with the phone related things, or somthing :D

How big cards are we talking about here, how big on the phone and how big on the J3, and how much Audio books you have on the J3 one ?

No, I mean, whatever card I use for my phone can't be taken out, since it'll contain stuff I use on my phone all the time--size is irrelevant :)

i was thinking you have 2 cards, one is With Music and the audio books and the other is with the Phone related stuff, so why not just add the phone related stuff to the card with the mucis, so you could just swap them and off you go ? or are there alot of the phone related files ?

Oh, that's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought about that :)

I contacted Cowon - they said "try WMP if this doesn't work, send to the repair shop" thanks a bunch Cowon! - I contacted AMP3 who sold it to me and they informed me the player should be in "MSC" not "MTP" transfer mode to see the external storage and it would be impossible to create play lists - after many hours trial and error I came up with this solution which some of you might find usefull.
Sorry it's a bit long winded.
With the J3 set to MSC and the SD card in the Player.
I downloaded a piece of Freeware - Playlist Creator 3.6 set up to create .m3u playlists
Create the playlists on Your PC using the files on the J3
Treat the internal and external drives separately .Copy all the playlists for the Internal storage into the Playlist folder on the J3 and copy all the playlists for music stored on the SD card onto a new folder (called Playlists) on the SD card don’t mix them up or the J3 can’t find them – The J3 will merge them together. I have taken the card out several times , pressed the reset button and switched back and forth from MSC to MTP– It still retains all my playlists. The only remaining problem with removing the SD card is any favourites set on music held on the card ,vanish –I can’t see a way around this. I don't think you can copy the "favorites" list.
I have saved my album covers in each individual Album folder as cover.jpg and they transfer over and are retained just fine.
I used this method on 2 PC's - 1 running Windows 7 and 1 running Vista -both worked fine.

Hmm, ok, so that creates playlists, but not a single playlist that contains files from both sources, right? One playlist with files from both sources was what I wanted. Thanks, though.

it creates a singgle playlist merging the playlist on the sd card + and the playlist on th device - when you look in playlist on the J3 -they are merged
