My J3 is paired with my Earsonics SM3 iems and when using just BBE MP its a match made in heaven.
Stock 'normal' setting just seems flat and dull to my ears, but most if not all of the other presets (apart from maybe Headphone 2) are kinda OTT in my opinion.
I'm yet to mess around much with the custom EQ bands, but I'd be interested in seeing what settings SM3 (or other ear/headphone) users out there are applying and why.

The S9 have the same presets

Using the Thinksound TS-01 headphones with my J3. It sounds absolutely amazing. Best in ear headphones out there. Doesn't get much better than this combo :)
Beyerdynamic dt880 (modded), not sure what my current settings are, i think its just +1 on the 220 (it would be 0 on the 220 and -1 on all the rest but i need some extra volume). other effects around 6-7, stereo enhance off or max of 1.
best is to get totally happy with the eq settings first for a baseline.
the wide eq setting can distort vocals and mids a lil and take the punch out of bass, narrow limits quite dramatically and sounds like its cutting out certain frequencies.
stick with normal for balance and adjust the frequencies to suit (although the narrow can be helpful to remove spikes if they fall in range).
then once your happy add some effects to add more life\space.
think of 5 as the optimal one for all, and adjust that to suit your headphones, 8 should be max on any of them, 5 or 7 is great for surround if you use that..
its less of a headache getting a nice setting that way.

Woah. Old thread is old.
Interesting topic, though. I usually keep the EQ flat, unless the mastering is poor or the speakers i'm using are lacking in some way (often happens in the car).
