Chatbox made iAudiophile the most flexible and friendly forum I have ever seen, and bring this feeling to most users that they are respected in a very better level than other forums by its developers and administrators, and it’s a great source for users to solve their problems in the shortest time possible.

It's a great place to talk about things with others(mp3 player, phones(HD2) etc), love it ;)

Hi,

Thought I'd Chime In...

This is a wonderful community we have happening here at iAUDIOphile.net! I personally have about 35 "Friend"ed iAUDIOphiles, and chat with many of them who drop by the ChatBox regularly; on a regular basis.

I think the ChatBox is THE killer feature of this site! Killer as in COOLEST!!

It turns this place from a dry locker of notes about DAPs n PMPs into a living, breathing, put your feet up, "CHEERS" (as in "Everybody Knows Your Name") watering hole, 'community' where you can peek in 'LIVE' and rub elbows with your fellow iAUDIOphiles!!!

but we aren't on here for FarmVille, so take that FaceBook. LOL. We like Music, and Music Players, mainly COWONs...

Still. I think the ChatBox is the Magic Spice that makes iAUDIOphile.net tick.

Thanks for reading.

I wonder how many potentially worthwhile thread topics never get created because the questions are answered in the chatbox.

In any case, I was just curious to see what people thought of it. The results are not as clear-cut as I might have expected...but the numbers are also lower than I might have hoped for.

I wonder whether there are people who are using the chatbox completely in lieu of the forum.

Well some questions are hard to be asked in forum and sometimes some stuff needs more detailed explanation and more active dialog--------------->chatbox

I wouldn't say too many. Although the major topic of discussion in the chatbox is DAPs/headphones/other audio gadgets, if you might have taken a look at the logs, there is also a lot of others stuff that is discussed too. Also, when it comes to the "solving problems in the chatbox" part, the problems that people ask about in the chatbox are usually very petty, e.g: "how do I install this UCI", "I just installed it, why isn't it working?" or.. "Why wouldn't my S9 start up" and similar things, which I believe are easily answered in a chatbox and not exactly worth taking up the space of a full thread or making the questioner wait for such a long time, specially since usually these questions are pretty easily answered, but hard to figure out for new chaps.

Putting myself in the position of someone with such small problems that appear to be big at that time, I can feel the annoyance and the frustration.

Also a lot of times people are redirected to threads in case no one is able to answer their questions, people are also advised to create threads if it is felt that doing the same is the best possible option. That being said, believe that it felicitates the forum usage to an extent as well.

But then yes, it all boils down to the number of people using it, which is as of now pretty low, for which the reasons are several.

I'd be curious to know what the reasons are...lack of awareness doesn't seem to be among them if the poll responses are any indication.

No, I'm not making up a separate poll. :)

I honestly wouldn't cancel out "lack of awareness" as a reason as we've only received about 20 odd votes... Although the exact amount of awareness, however much that there is, is certainly something debatable.

A few reasons which I could give would be:
1. The chat UI (laggy).
2. The lack of a proper "chat" button in the navigation bar.

But those are only personal opinions. Curious as to what others think....

You know, I actually didn't know. :) I hit the page two button on the forums and I saw this poll at the top. I then set about looking for it, and when I found it..... my forehead smack could be heard across the globe. :) (:

Any of you guys on IRC? Any need for a real chat interface? I could set up a channel on Freenode, if there's enough response. I already registered #iaudiophile on Freenode, so we're good to go.

I use IRC, so this channel is quite handy. :)
