What settings should i choose in media coder for a best result in quality?
I cant make anything to work at all!
ok here you go..
the best option would be is to use H264 codec.
Get Mediacoder 0.7.2 build 4530(specifically for acc audio only,if you want mp3 as audio you can use latest build too)
Coz aac provides better compression than mp3 in same file size.
Get NeroAAC from there official website, google it if you don't find it.
Import these setting in Mediacoder by File->Load Preset.
You can change bitrate,3 pass encoding mode, audio bitrate but please dont change the value of predictor, otherwise i wont work.
tell me if you need more help...

And whats with those passes whats the difference beetween 1 pas and three passes of encoding?
tell me if you need more help...
But why latest version doesnt have acc???
Arent updates suposed to make software better??? [laugh]
By the way acc doesnt work with that nero encoder after second pass it gives me an error that video and audio could not be synced but with lame mp3 320 kbps everything's fine
try different source(ffmeg, mencoder),latest version doesn't play well in s9 (i don't know why),make sure to keep all the contents of neroaac.zip in mediacoder's codec folader.
if you dont want aac,go with mp3,its good too,and can be used with latest versions also...

The last question :D
I converted 720p video i left bitrate of original and fps also
But i converted it with two pass and it makes the a little jittery on s9 just a little but it still catches my eye.
If i did three pass what would change???

conversation settings?
open mouth..talk.. ;-)
passes only increase quality(the more the better quality)
keep value of "predictor=1"
and try disabling any eq setting while playing video..
and tell me if it worked or not,
if not try sending me the "mediainfo" of the video
Another option is to turn on Inverse Telecine (its in Settings under Video Filters. Pullup works best) to get rid of judder. I rarely encode video without it turned on, particularly for movies.

does anyone have any good settings for either visual hub or handbrake on mac?
Be sure to disable CABAC or use a basline profile (Level 2.2 does the trick for me).
And if your source is using a lossy audio codec (IE mp3) check "copy audio" under the audio tab. Coverting lossy to lossy (even if to a higher bit rate or better codec) will only further degrade the quality.
And if you can, use OGG for the audio codec, it's one of the best lossy codects around.
Be sure to disable CABAC or use a basline profile (Level 2.2 does the trick for me).
baseline already disables CABAC[yes]

What settings are you using in JetAudio? I've used AVI (H.264 + MP3) at 480x272, source frame rate, a video bitrate of 1mbps, and audio bitrate of 192kbps, and the video gets blocky/unwatchable on my S9. I've used the default O2/S9/J3: 1mbps preset too, but the video was slightly blocky as well.

Make sure you have a high quality source video, a blocky source won't get any better when you encode it.

I am using the Auto Normal Quality preset and the O2/S9/J3 output filter.
Even with less quality video is outputs a very nice crisp and certainly not blocky video for the S9.
I have watched a few episodes of a series and the video was very nice and sharp, so I am not sure how you would get blocky vids.
On the other hand, if you try to encode already blocky vids it won't get better just because its a smaller screen.
But maybe you're way more picky than I am?

The original source is not blocky. I've tried two different sources. One ripped from my own DVD, and another which is in 1080p.
But in any case, with JetAudio, everything works fine if I use XviD, but H.264 creates problems. It's blocky as in when a frame transitions, the transition is blocky, and not fluid creating weird blocky ghosting.

x264 gives better quality as compared to xvid especially in lower bitrates,so a full lenght movie may be converted to just 300-400mb size with awesome quality, but its quite heavy on processor and battery and its quite slow as compared to xvid,so if you have got no space issues go with xvid, its fast and easy.

Not one of the 3 attached presets from this thread when loaded play on my s9 when using mediacoder (latest FULL version v0.7.3.4612, both x64 and x86). Could it be I have a dodgy s9 (firmware 2.50) which can't play mp4 files? It seems to play avi xvids converted using jetaudio just fine.
I've tried checking the "copy audio" box and using mp3 instead of aac but to no avail. Converted video files plays fine on my laptop just not on the s9.
Update
I am going to try using the old version which is available on this page:
http://www.mediacoderhq.com/dlfull.htm
v0.7.2.4582. I will try both x64 and x86 versions using all the presets I can find on this forum and ABI forums and see if that works.

What version of mediacoder are you using?

I am using version 0.7.3.4616. 32 bit OS.
The last one version of mediacoder that I was able to use mp4 videos almost perfect was 7.3.4530.
So you might have to get that one, from there get the 32bit settings xml file and it should convert your files.
The problem I am having is when I select a preset, none of the info in the video, audio, container, etc tabs changes. Are you saying that the latest version of MediaCoder is causing that and I should revert to an older version?
...and the reason that I am looking for a working preset is because I am having trouble converting a movie. The DVD itself has the latest and greatest encryption, so I cannot rip it. The movie came with a digital copy, so I got that and removed the DRM with Fairuse. It will play on my SP, but it's big and plays choppy, which is why I want to convert it. Any suggestions on settings for the file below? I was able to get it to work with a couple of different manual settings, but the audio lags behind.

Yep that's exactly why. I had the same problem as you with the newer version of mediacoder, so I had to go back to the version I mentioned.
BTW if you want to use standard xvid, the standard settings should work fine, just leave the bitrate to about 800-1000 and the files will play perfectly
The one verson I was able to find of .4530 tells me an important packet is missing about 3/4 of the way of the install. Can you point me to where I can get a clean download?

Can anyone recommend a MediaCoder setting or see any reason why I can't get mp3 audio to sync with an avi? Could it have anything to do with the WMA 9.2 - 2 pass CBR?

@kooloo- check your framerate setting in mediacoder, it must be the same as the source
Thanks Ninja, that worked! It was driving me crazy.
Here's an interesting one - I ripped a movie with DVDFab and the VideoTS files play back fine on my PC. Then, when I convert them to .avi for my S9 with MediaCoder, the second of the 4 outputted .avi's plays back with audio from the director of the movie (describing scenes, etc) rather than the audio from the movie. Anyone know How this would happen during the conversion?

Try converting the video one by one.It will be because some errors in the settings of the software.Try different ripping software, try using Handbrake, its free, small and handy.
The problem was that there were two audio streams in that paricular section of the movie. By default, mediacoder picked the wrong one-it just needed to be changed. I also learned that I should not be converting each vob file individually anyway, it's better to covert the appropriate ifo file, resulting in only 1 avi file (instead of many), among other benefits.

Hey guys..
I'm pretty lost right now..
I'm not sure which software to use? Super or MediaCoder?
There are so many different settings etc around here.
Can someone please tell me the latest working settings for one of the both converters?
or both..
would be pretty cool :)

MediaCoder is my personal favorite, but its your choice, its up to you, which software you want to use.
If you want an easy no brainer encoder, try some free encoders like "Any Video Converter","Filefactory"etc.
Both SUPER and Mediacoder are highly customisable.
If you want to use H.264 video codec along with .AAC audio codec, use build version 0.7.2.4530,I've posted some working preset in this thread before, just import it and you are ready to go.
If you want H.264 with .mp3 audio you can use any version of Mediacoder.
I dont use SUPER so i'll not be able to post its setting.
Hope it resolves your confusion.

So I'm trying to encode it with mediacoder 0.7.3.4640 and I try to use the preset from the first page...(but aac--> mp3)
At first it says "failed to load FFmpeg" then error 011 and 013...
I switched the audio source to MEncoder (LAME MP3/MP3/MEncoder)
Now I still get the "failed to load FFmpeg" and error 013
I'm trying to switch the source but I get error 014 or " failed to load the encoder"
http://wiki.mediacoderhq.com/index.php/Error_Codes#014
Any idea?[help]

i tried converting a 1080p mkv file to a h264 format using the presents given in the pages before. one present worked (called H264+AAC) while the other one did not (called S9 HQ preset). with the preset that did work, the h264 file that resulted lost audio around halfway through the movie. i tried this again with the same result. any ideas?

New cowon s9 user.
Tried Sameer's suggestions:
mediacoder with s9 zip presets
Conclusion: worked lol. I was having trouble figuring this all out but like Sameer said, it works like a charm. Thank you!
