gom encoder, but its free only for 30 days(

It keeps crashing at my computer. When converting a couple videos, it crashes after the first or the second video. I first had it installed on XP, and now in Win7, so that can't be the problem.

Mine doesn't work that well either...
But I have heard that JetAudio's converter is pretty good...
I just found a free converter online and have been using it since :P
What is the name of the free one?

Have you tried upgrading jet audio? A new version was posted last week (v8.0.1). It looks like they fixed several bugs.
http://www.cowonglobal.com/zeroboard/zboard.php?id=C08&category=&no=393&bmenu=support&category=2
* Fixed audio when converting videos to MKV/iPod/PSP format
* Screen capture crashed when using EVR
* Restored progress slider for full-screen
* More aspect ratio menus
* Fixed other minor bugs

Agreed, use mediacoder and convert your vids to h.264 avi's. [thumbsup]
There's a portable version of the latest JetAudio around if you know where to look. Much smaller than the installable version at 25mb and works great for me.

another vote for media coder. it rocks is fast and recode pretty much anything.
mediacoder=weekly updates.
stop promoting your software,if it is good,people will already come to know about it,joining iaudiophile just for your software promotion is not good.

h.264 BP+aac+mp4
Currently having issues with SUPER and ogm+subtitles+multiple dubs not converting properly. No subs at all, and I seem to be unable to make it select the second voice stream instead of the first.

I know this isn't much help to you but I'd recomend mediacoder if it's and option. The program is a lot better and still free.

Same here. I hope that the firmware will be able to handel CABAC soon. No more need for me converting my downloaded youtube vids [laugh].

Baseline Profile=NO CABAC
Baseline profile is for portable media players,i don't think any other profile (Main,High) will be supported[no]
Unfortunately Mediacoder's weekly updates break about as much as they fix.
Of the most recent 3 versions 4582 works okay on shorter files. I can't get it to encode much of anything over an hour long. I've tried mp4s, vobs, avc, and divx and although it creates files they're not anywhere near the size they should be. For example I tried some vobs today that should have made a 700mb or so file but it created a 256mb file that won't play in anything.. I don't think it's muxing properly since it runs the full encode time as it should when producing the undersized files.
On the other hand I used the exact same preset to batch encode 24 half hour files that play flawlessly. Go figure...
I tried both the updates after 4582 and I can't get either of them to even do the half hour shows. In fact if you try to run through the setup wizard they have a new setting which won't allow you to complete the wizard because it doesn't give a forward arrow to continue the setup on the multithreading part. I'm using the 64bit version because the 32 bit version (no matter which one I install) give an ffmpeg error as soon as I click start.
In case you're wondering I've tried a number of the preset files posted around here. The one for 4530 h264/AAC works fine but it's so much slower the I uninstalled it. None of the presets seem to make the newest builds functional for the S9.
Overall I find Mediacoder more frustrating than it's worth so I'm looking for something else.
Here's the preset I used that works with short files.. if you have any suggestions feel free to offer them but unless they're tested in the current build they probably won't work.

I'm a true loyal supporter of Mediacoder,you seems to have bad experiences with it,so here it goes..
I've haven't converted videos over 1 hour so i cant give you exact remedy for it,Sorry.
I'm gonna speak in context of H.264,so You said its slower then download latest build of x264 from http://x264.nl/ and replace it with previous one in MC's directory and then try it,reply if it helped...

@Athan09-try megui, it's much better than mediacoder but more complicated to use.
mediacoder's avisynth support sucks so I've switched to megui

I've played around with it a bit. Do you have a good 1 touch preset for it? I haven't been able to get a working combo for the S9 yet.

Speaking of video convertoer settings, would anyone happen to have one for handbrake?
I've tried and can't seem to get one that works properly.

Why not Any Video Converter free version from Anvsoft ?
Why not Any Video Converter free version from Anvsoft ?
Ya its a very good software,surely recommended,but when it comes to customizing your video encoding,you will need a better software which would provide you more freedom to tweak your encoding method.[yes]

It actually works now!!!
I often download video files to convert them. I have Windows 7 and I usually I use Convert-tune
http://convert-tune.com/index.html
it is easy to use and it converts video to MP4, WMV, AVI and 3gp. In addition,
it features free CD ripper and CD burner and such option as "surf and catch video". ;)

how about quickmediaconverter?
Aimersoft video converter has been working for me - and i've tested at least 7 or 8 converters to no avail. However, it does display a watermark (w/o purchase) at the top of the screen, so this might be a detracting factor.
