what is your rockbox sound setting
I know its sound setting is not like original fw (so much things, bbe+)
but it will make allot of deference compare to default settings or even share any interesting plugin that will make it to sound better.

Check with FLACvest. He's a master at tailoring the sound to taste.

The Crossfeed-feature is pretty nice. I found it a bit hard to find proper settings and it sure takes some getting used to in general, but I personally don't want to miss it any more. YMMV

It can really screw up your sound if the settings are bad, but if it's set correctly, I think it does sound a bit more natural (using headphones)

I found that looking at an ipod manual from the Rockbox site at least explained some of the terms (as there's no D2 manual yet).

MoMonster, did you have to change the settings on Crossfeed very much?
I didn't think I'd use it but I've been trying out CrossFade as well with mixed results.

Yes, I played around with it alot (but I couldn't tell how much my settings differ from the default settings right now :))

If you want, I can post my settings. But I can't guarantee they'll work for you.
My settings don't have much of an impact on the overall sound. I'd just miss it if it wasn't there...

I don't think it could do any harm, thanks MoMonster please post them :)

There was another thread in the main forum on Jet Audio settings. It was interesting seeing different approaches that people had and some of the comments coming back about them (e.g. "Ouch, lots of smilie faces" in reference to EQ settings that went up at both ends or "I believe that anything but a flat EQ setting and everything else off is barbaric").
The last comment is paraphrased but you know what I mean.

Okay here are my settings.

replaygain noclip: on
replaygain preamp: 50

crossfeed: on
crossfeed direct gain: -5
crossfeed cross gain: -80
crossfeed hf attenuation: -240
crossfeed hf cutoff: 1000

eq enabled: on
eq precut: 45
eq band 0 gain: 25
eq band 1 gain: 10
eq band 3 gain: 20
eq band 4 gain: 45

dithering enabled: on

I'm surprised to see the equalizer is turned on (haven't changed the settings in a while[laugh])
I probably did this to counter some unwanted effects crossfeed has on the overall sound. But since the EQ wasn't usable for a very long time (I believe this was fixed, but I'm not sure atm), I just chose a default setting that came somewhat close to what I wanted.

So It might be best to ignore my eq settings until I really found my personal setting.

Equipment: FiiO E5 -> Alessandro MS-1

The Stereo Widening feature is my favourite on the RockBox eq[thumbsup]. It acts like the 3D surround on BBE on the Cowon firmware but it is much better. I also add bass to about 7 and treble to about 3. I've experimented with the Advanced EQ which I am impressed with.[thumbsup]

IMHO the RockBox EQ is far more superior to BBE and EQ on the Cowon firmware.[thumbsup]

Rockbox sound setting is not as simple as it looks it needs a manual separately *lol *
really , I never figured out completely how to change its setting in different occasions
[and I have to admit that I never saw any firmware with so many great sound options]
its not as easy as the original firmware , so many settings!
it would be good if we all gather our sound settings to learn from each other

I leave everything flat. It just seems to work best for my Ultimate Ears Metro-fi 220s.

I enable crossfeed on the default setting and pretty much don't use the equalizer (leave it on the default)

There is now a Rockbox Manual available for Cowon D2 http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml

IMHO the Sound Settings chapter of the manual is full of great information. It will take some time for the average person to work through the learning curve of some of the dense info there, but the payoff can be huge. Master the Sound Settings chapter along with some of the great tips posted above, and you can potentially improve the sound quality the D2 produces above & beyond that produced with Cowon's FW.

It took me a few weeks of experimenting to learn all the Rockbox sound setting capabilities and I'm still learning. At the moment, I'm enjoying testing-listening to songs I've heard hundreds of times using Cowon's FW and other stereo systems. I'm hearing details and artifacts with Rockbox that I've never heard on these songs before, even with some fairly expensive stereo systems.

If I could make one recommendation to anyone into sound quality, it would be to master the sound settings chapter of the Rockbox manual. Also, get the best headphones/IEMs you can, and as noted above - headfi.org is a great resource for audiophiles who use portable music systems.

I read that briefly when it was released but when you mentioned, it made me to take an observed look so much things I mised but still it's good if we help each other in reaching the best settings for deferent match of headphones to our device.
our friends Suggestions really helped me
the most that matched to my headphone was the one that MoMonster Suggested thatnk you!

The real glory IMO with Rockbox is the flat setting. I turn up the treble to three or four and the bass to one or two. Unlike the Cowow FW, the Rockbox FW will not compensate for poor rips. Listening to FLACS or VBR 0 (LAME) and 320CBR are great. Listen to poor studio recording, poorly produced album, a bad rip, or just an old old recording, you will heat it, no matter how much you try to hide it. The more I've played around with the settings, the less I like to, not with my Shure500 or my full size Dennon 2000. The only other adjustment I've ever enjoyed was narrowing the bands.

I also don't like their replaygain, as that I feel like it reduces the sound quality. That's totally subjective of course. And I also have given up on the Crossfeed effect, which takes away from the clarity, muddles it up, and maybe I just dig the old fashion stereo.

I love that it allows the sound quality in my best files to come through so vividly.

here are my settings (senn ie8, d2+)

low shelf: 0db @ 50hz, q 0.7
peak filter1: -6db @ 100hz, q 2.8
peak filter2: 0db
peak filter3: 0db
high shelf: 0db

channel configuration: custom
stereo width: 70%

anything else is flat / off.

it realy sounds awsome. rbīs equi is my main reason to use rb, as the cowon firmware wont allow me to reduce the evil bass hump of the ie8 without distroying the deepbass. and reducing the the stereo width heops me with iem, as the intens stereo feelt with headphones to me always had been quite fatigable with longer listening times.

How can I save a custom EQ? When I go to save, it won't allow me, the screen freezes on an alphabet mode with the cfg filename, but no way to save or exit this mode other than shutting off.

Elderbear

You have to be in 3x3 grid mode to use the alphabet screen. R middle moves highlight to R, top center moves up, etc. Tap the center of the screen to choose the symbol and when you have finished, hold the center to save.

Thankyou!!! Just seeing that point is enough to make me want RockBox!!! I'm getting tired of shifting the bass band up and down to compensate for where the frequency of the bass guitar tends to linger album by album. It gets so annoying! I have this jazz album that gets me a little ticked off because I have to bring the first band far down to hear the bassist and then as soon as I get to that spot oh damn the drums are gone! You can't listen to jazz and have to choose between the bass and the toms! That's not fair!
