View Full Version : Some wma files don't play on my U2

Can anyone provides some clue/help about this problem:
When I sync using WMP 10, all songs get transfered correctly to my U2 (can see the files, ID3 tags etc). Most of the songs will play just fine on the U2, but for whatever reasons some songs will not play: you see the file but when you press "play", the U2 jumps to the next song, really frustrating! We are not dealing with any purchased songs here, all my WMP library was created from my own CD collection.

I am running F/W version 1.3a

Anyone experienced similar problem ? I would greatly welcome any help you can give guys!

Thanks in advance!

EvensU2,

I have not experienced this myself but then again, I am not using WMP or anything else to sync my player. Just adding stuff manually. Anyway, it might be a firmware thing. Previous to the F/W 1.40 (heard lots of problems with this one) there was 1.35e which is what I am using. Below is the log of fixes:

Improved Features & Fixed Bugs
- Improvement on stability of OGG playback
(Fixed problems which becomes mal-function by tag problem, from part OGG files that didn't plays last 2~3 seconds.)
- Fixed problem, which start section repeat from wrong position if high bit rate MP3 file played.
- Fixed problem, which name of the last broadcasting station has broken when the broradio.ini file has downloaded.
- Fixed problem, which resume and bookmark do not work properly on files that located out field of 1GB from 2GB player.
- Fixed problem, which able to recharge if you connect USB cable to PC even you sets 'Charge OFF'.
- Other bugs has been fixed.

Thx Soundmax for your help!
I think I have found the culpritt...Fom the microsoft WMP support webpage it was clearly mentionned that in some cases, WMP might not properly downconvert the high bit rate wma file to a bit rate compatible with the device being synchronized if you meet the following conditions:
1)WMP files were ripped using lossless audio format
2)WMP file were ripped with the "copy protect music" flag on
I met both conditions....

Alright, sounds like case solved. Nice when one can figure the problem out on their own.
