Is the Battery Life on the U2 decent? Does the battery get weaker at every charge? Would you say that this mp3 player is better than the IA4?
I have an U2 and from reviews I've read the battery time on IA4 is pretty lame, under 10h.
I charged my U2 the first day I got it (3 days ago) and have used it for something like 1,5-2h a day, and the battery meter is still full. From exity's review i understand that the battery time is 18-19h. Wich is pretty good if you ask me =)

An odd thing... I was recharging my U2, and I forgot to use the "remove hardware" function before pulling out the USB plug, once it was fully recharged.
Worried that I might've hurt the unit by doing so, I plugged it back in, and the battery was no longer fully charged. I thought that maybe I just needed to wait a few seconds or minutes and it'd be back on top, but it seemed like it was trcharging itself again "from the bottom" so to speak, and I had to wait somewhere around 20-60 minutes before it was fully recharged again.
Not sure if it had anything to do with my slight mishap or not though...

The "remove hardware" is related to data transfer; the PC will often cache any writes to the device, and the "remove hardware" action will commit any pending writes.
It shouldn't affect your battery, but unplugging the device without telling the OS beforehand might lead to an inconsistent filesystem.

Does the battery life drain when the player is not on? My old MP3 player had this problem, and it really annoyed me... if I left it with the battery in for a couple weeks, it would be drained when I picked it up again. I'm sure people who have just picked one of these up might not know the answer to this (since it would take some time without use to verify), but do other iAudio flash players have this problem?
eXity measured the battery-drain on the U2 while it was off and he said he didn't find any =)
"With the inclusion of an integrated clock I tried to check for any battery drain while the unit was switched off. I did not notice any. "

Hmm, that's good. Although, I'd like to know how he checked this. Obviously there would be some battery drain if there is an internal clock, but it could be very low.

Its probably so low that you cant tell unless he tested over a lonnnggg period of time. Because it doensnt just run on air.

I've been trying to see how long my player'll go before the battery starts blinking, and I've been roughly counting the hours.
Today the battery started blinking, and it's been in use for roughly 13 hours.
The volume has mostly been from 28 to 36, no effects turned on, and I've been turning it on/off several times, recorded some using the integrated microphone, ad moved over a few files to it (and deleted) with Charge set to Off. The radio has also been in use.
Does anyone know how you should go about recharging to get the most juice out of your U2? Should you only charge it when the battery starts blinking on the screen? Or doesn't it matter how much power is left when you start recharging? And, is it best to have recharge off or on when you're just plugging in the unit for a few minutes to move over some files?

I ordered a 1GB U2 from amazon on Friday! I'm excited! What is the best way to extend the battery's lifetime? Is it better to let it run down all the way before charging it? Or just charge it back to full whenever I have the chance?

I'd really like to know the answers to those questions too, Marauder!
Any battery/U2 experts here?
What is the best way to extend the battery's lifetime?
I know this isn't what you meant, but perhaps running the player off the optional mains adaptor when possible maybe an answer?
I think U2 has lithium polymer battery...
lithium based batteries has no memory effect so you can and should charge them frequently.. also you shouldn't let them completely discharge..
