I just got my S9 and it's not charging. My computer doesn't recognise the S9's existence and the S9 doesn't recognise my computer's existence. This is obviously a bit of a problem [no]
The only thing I can think of is that I do not have service pack 3 for Windows XP (my computer has trouble with it for some reason). I'm assuming this is the problem, but I'd like to make sure. So, is the XP SP3 necessary for the S9 to connect to my computer?

IMHO, you should try another computer...SP3 has nothing to do with your S9 problem...

I've tried three different computers - none of them work.

Then i think your USB cable have some problem, usually low voltage will cause this

Did u install USB driver in the XP?
You don't need a USB driver for the S9 on XP. It sounds like either a bad cable or a defective device. Is it recognized in Device Manager? (right click My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager. If it's recognized in here, you should be able to save your s9.

are you on the original XP? that didn't include USB 2.0 drivers, which might actually be your problem

Ah, that seems like it could be it. I don't have the USB 2.0 drivers. I'll sort that out and see if it works. Thanks for the help guys!

Read This (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/jones_02august05.mspx)...
Then This (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;312370)...
Then click this (http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=3646727)....which is the Windows Update Site. Do a Custom and install all the updates that deal with hardware...No forget that...Just install them all...
Windows XP has had USB 2.0 support since August 2002...
I am running SP3 and have no problems...
IMHO, if you had USB problems, more than just your S9 would not be working...But then what do I know, since I only do this for a living???

You may be right, Dalmane, but it doesn't hurt to try it anyway before I settle on the S9 or the USB connector being the problem. Thanks for the links.

Well I believe all computers should be kept up to date as far as security patches are concerned.
Counting your computer, you have tried 3 computers...hard to believe they all have the same problem...
Does your S9 charge if you use an AC Adapter?
Any USB Charger that is rated at at least 1A/1000mA should work. That would ensure your S9 gets fully charged in about 3 hours any way...
That might help rule out the cable if it showed the charging indication on the S9 's screen. It still might not work for data transfer. Lot of pins in that little connector.

yeah...but amazingly I still run into people from time to time, who have recently reinstalled XP from their original discs and haven't bothered to update, who are missing all kinds of services and support
rare, but it happens!

That's a good idea actually. I'm having trouble with SP3 for some reason; my computer doesn't like it. I've been planning on updating my OS anyway, so I'll probably just go out and buy a new windows disc. I'll grab a USB charger while I'm at it and that way I'll know whether or not it's the cable/S9 itself.
I know what you mean when you say the drivers shouldn't be the problem, but interestingly none of the computers I have tried have had SP3 or USB 2.0 either.
