Welcome to the new Music UI Thread

Since somebody lately started a thread about how to check the pages on naver, the final result was that you have to create and account for checking new flash UIs. So i started to look for some new stuff on other sites.

I was surfing through some pages on http://blog.bycube.net/ and found three very nice music UIs and i'm pretty impressed of what i've found. Don't know if anybody is interested in these ones but i'm gonna post the pictures plus the links for the downloads anyway.

Can we have a sticky thread with all the music UIs that we find? would be easier than to navigate through pages and pages. cause anytime somebody finds a music UI he posts it in a new thread like "New Music Ui ... from ...".
Would be nice :-) and i also ask all people in here, if they could post their pictures and download links to the music UIs here (?).

for now yep. Or it could be useful to have one thread dedicated to the Mainmenu UCI and another for the Music UCI coz since ('nd thanks to Claw) you can have up to 7 different menu et music UCI it can get very confused. So I suggest you to put ur thread in the sticky thread section above.

well,in the finished UCI thread you can find only menu UCIs and not music.

It's not limited to menu UCI's, there's no such rule for that, but I can't control what people choose to submit, I can only delete useless posts.

Lets see how this thread goes though.

Steadily in the past to create a cafe on Naver iPod Touch Style Music Theme is raised.

S9 using Apple's iPod, like many of you wish I was comfortable and nice music screen feedback

I have started making a lot of.

S9 to the opinions of users converge to create the program I Got Here. ^ ^


Features include the following:.

1) 272 * 272 of the large album art support

2) lyrics On / off support - LDB 2.0 lyrics support the 8 line (LDB 1.0 3 lines)

3) Album Art Reflection Effects (keonteurolchang part is reflected in the album art that appears.)

4) Swing Mode Support

5) Name display / mipyo possible conversions

6) volume control with gestures



The following is simply to explain how to use.


Click the album art once the details window at the same time, you will see the control window and the lyrics.

If you do not have lyrics on the screen and the detail control window will appear.

If you click the album art will take place again.


Double-click the album art, album art, the source of the information is output in place.


Filename on and off in order to double click on the tag will be part of the output.

At the moment the thread is well arranged and everything but there will be more and more UIs and the thread starts being kind of messed up^^ (for example the D2 UI thread, there are a lot of them and one has to look at so many pages)

I didn't discuss^^ I just asked for a proper list of music UIs in the first post for easy access to the UI you search for. Like

Cassini UI
DarkFlash UI
etc.
and every name is a link to the post that contains a download-link for it. So you don't need to search through the complete thread if you search for a special ui that you know the name of.

A music screen UCI for the S9, programmed and designed by me, El Maco.

Contains a minimalistic, clutter-free now-playing screen and album based music library browser. There are two browsing modes: a traditional list-style (with small cover art) and "3D"-style with bigger art (but no text).

The now-playing screen may display embedded art. If you use tag information to organize your music library, it may not show up correctly in the browser.

Quick instructions:


Tap "list" icon to open the list styled browser. Sweep up and down to scroll albums. Tap twice to select an album and start playback. The physical skip track buttons can be used for fast navigation (i.e. page up / down).
Tap "browse" icon to open the 3d styled browser. Operation is similar to list browser, except physical buttons skip tracks instead of page up / down.
Tap "album" icon to open the now-playing screen. The currently playing album and track info will be displayed here. Album art display performs antialiasing filter for enhanced visual quality. A tap on the left and right side of the album skips tracks. A tap on the middle opens up the regular browser (track list). The seeker bar and all the physical buttons should behave as expected.
A long press of the play/pause icon (bottom right corner) toggles shuffle feature on/off.
A long press of the physical play/pause button exits the UCI and returns to the main menu.
This UCI doesn't contain a built-in background, so use the system wallpaper function to assign any image. That one by el maco doesn't show any of my album art.
In every folder I have cover.jpg and they all work perfectly fine in the one I use, tweaked by claws UI.

I know it works, by going to the new matrix browser thing, and they all show up.

thanks for all your enthusiasm! i'm glad to have such a positive response from all of you :D but as we see, dominic would have to delete ALL the posts you guys did if this would become a NON discussion thread. if you like to discuss about a skin we could also create a discussion thread. thats what i'd vote for.. but we can also have a flash skin thread with discussion. but than i'd have to make a list, like you want it with the name of the flashskin and a link to it. you have to decide. the only problem is, that i'm very busy for now and i can't give you a 100% YES that i can handle the list up to date...

I've no issue deleting no music uci posts if you want, this thread is young though - that's why I haven't deleted anything. I'll give it a week, then caz I'd like you to PM me if you want me to do some spring cleaning [laugh]

If you are using IE and the files show up corrupted, try using something like firefox instead and it should work.

From what I understand, you're required to use a specific folder structure in your /Music/ folder. By that I mean every folder in /Music/ must be an Album, otherwise the browser at least won't pick up the album art.

I personally use /Music/Artist/Album structure - an unfortunate reason why I don't use that uci.

Maybe that's the issue you're having?

requires firmware version X.30b or later
browses "albums" (probably requires up-to-date tag information)
allows cover art in all forms supported by the S9

To use:


sweep left/right to scroll music library
"drag and drop" album to the turntable to play all tracks
sweep up to open a pop-up menu
tap twice on an album to display track list
(track list does scroll up/down even though there are little visual cues for that)
tap on either side of the turntable to skip tracks
tap on the recording to pause/resume playback
unfortunately no playlist support or other advanced stuff, just the basic functionality

That's about it... Download and have fun! Feel free to comment and report any bugs etc.

From the programming point of view, launching the standard browser is easy to implement, the only problem is that I pretty much ran out of screen space and I really don't want to make room for buttons... There is one "gesture" currently without a function, i.e. sweeping upwards on top of the album cover matrix, so that could be assigned for the browser jump if required. Does this sound useful?

And yes, there is only one way to return to the main menu, which is through holding down the physical play/pause. If you guys think this function needs a touchscreen UI alternative, it probably means that I'd have to implement a pop-up menu or something...

Ok, I added the browser jump feature. Didn't test it very thoroughly, so I presume you will report if something doesn't work as expected :) There is also the possibility that I change the "up gesture" to bring out a popup menu in the future... Personally I'd like to have a toggle for the shuffle play feature, which was left out because I couldn't find a natural way to fit it anywhere in the screen. [no]

Navigate by browser is cool, we can keep the general play mode (shuffle mode in all S9 for me).
Before adding this feature when you selected an album, UCI automatically enter in album mode in normal play.
I will use "DJ mode" when I'll want listen only by album.
Anyway I think if you'll implent a pop up with more function your UCI could be an ultimate one.

I updated the original post with the most recent version of the turntable uci. Some changes were made, most notably there is now a quick hack of a pop-up menu. From the menu, you can access the regular browser, main menu, settings menu and toggle the states of shuffle and repeat.

I think I fixed the bug which caused cover art not to update when song changes.

I also altered the graphics a little. My apologies if someone thinks the old S-shaped dividing line was better (its not coming back, though ;))

I noticed the same thing, however I was unable to fix that behavior properly. It seems that S9 pauses the playback (i.e. does what the button is supposed to do) after the UCI has lost control. Now I toggle the pause state just before the UCI exits, so there is only a slight pause, but the playback doesn't stop. If some developer knows a better solution, please let me know...
Anyway, I have a problem that my finger always cover the letter. I have this as 2_music.swf.
And whenever I switch to my mainmenu1, I have a different music.swf but 2_music.swf always shows up.
It does wierd things like when I press up or down on volume, it will do 2 levels at a time instead of one.
I have to switch to mainmenu2 or 3 to make it go back to normal.

I, too, would prefer browsing by artist (or better yet, by folder). The problem is once again that possibilities are limited by Cowon's firmware. For the browser, I use a style tipped by Claw (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showpost.php?p=234020&postcount=13) (thank you), which supposedly only works when browsing the Album stage.
and pick my background.To make the scrolling animation as smooth as possible, I had to use a specially designed background image behind the cover art matrix. So it can't be changed. On the other hand, the background below the deck could be changed, in theory at least.

It seems that many people want bigger cover art... That would require a considerable modification to the core design. I think I'm not ready to make such modification right now, but in the future sometime, maybe.

In the latest version (available in my original post) the up gesture doesn't launch the browser directly but brings a menu instead, where you can select the main menu option. Or you can hold down the physical play/pause button (on top of the S9 device) for about two seconds. The latter works in all versions.

The downside of the menu is that browser access is now behind one sweep and two finger taps. I've been thinking that maybe I should make a faster shortcut for the browser for those who need it all the time. A longer upward sweep perhaps..?

After getting my Cowon S9 today, I grabbed your Music UI El Maco and I have to say... WOW! You literally put Cowon's Matrix Coverflow and default Music UI to shame, this is utter bliss and fun to use your Music UI! I find no fault whatsoever in your Music UI with an exception to something you already mentioned and something we agree on; It would be AWESOME if we could browse by Folders but can understand it's a limitation by Cowon. Hopefully with the next firmware release, Cowon unlocks the way we browse our music in unique UI's like this and Coverflow. Great job, it's a freakin beatiful Music UI you got here [thumbsup]!

I experimented with the possibility to replace the turntable with a larger cover art view...

I didn't want to take a row off the matrix, so the cover art view is limited to the area available around the turntable. But even at that moderate size, the cover art view does introduce a performance penalty for the animation (too many MovieClips on stage for S9 to render [sad] ) -- which is one of the reasons I don't quite like it myself. However, if you want to check it out, try the attached file. There are two new buttons: the left one opens the menu and the right one toggles between cover view and the turntable. Because of the dedicated menu button, "up sweep" gesture was freed and is now assigned to quick browser access again.

You can choose which function you want to give the g sensor.
Matrix browser or shake function.

I can answer 2, not one, sorry. In order to have the "coverflow", or in this case the Turntable, work properly, you are FORCED to use Album sorting. Album sorting though doesn't allow you to go to the next album or previous album, no matter what setting you put. It's a bug Cowon knows about and they don't want to fix it either because they said it's intended to work like this...
Trust me, I've dealt with Cowon about this (through tickets involving their Korean UI group) for weeks and they gave me that answer >.>. So not only is coverflow or anything related mostly broken as well as normal play (not using the coverflow) you have to use Folder sorting to go to previous or next albums. This is reported in the bug thread and will be posted on EVERY bug thread as well until Cowon decides to fix the problem...

I have started making a lot of.

Features include the following:.

1) 272 * 272 of the large album art support

2) lyrics On / off support - LDB 2.0 lyrics support the 8 line (LDB 1.0 3 lines)

3) Album Art Reflection Effects (keonteurolchang part is reflected in the album art that appears.)

4) Swing Mode Support

5) Name display / mipyo possible conversions

6) volume control with gestures



The following is simply to explain how to use.


Click the album art once the details window at the same time, you will see the control window and the lyrics.

If you do not have lyrics on the screen and the detail control window will appear.

If you click the album art will take place again.


Double-click the album art, album art, the source of the information is output in place.


Filename on and off in order to double click on the tag will be part of the output.

First go to your settings and then go to display. when you have reached the display settings go to time displayed and and switch it. hope i've helped[thumbsup]

You know it's Gorilla Glass, right? It ain't going to scratch (or at least, not easily...unless you stab it with a diamond).
*edit* ok. so i was right, it IS really really really difficult to scratch, but I finally got a few tiny hair-thickness nicks at the top of my screen. my answer: I bought a ZAGG screen protector. Wheeee. I feel safer now, and the liquid filled in the little scratches so I can't see them any mroe.

also, if they would have put it on the front, i bet you would hear it every time the s9 rocked back and forth on the curved back.

At the original UCI there is a "quick list". Using the "quick list" is like browse by folder "on a long way."
Is it possible to show only the first song of an album at the "quick list"?

Rather than upgrade the whole flash engine, I thinks it's more likely that Cowon would create some type of visualization themselves (probably via fscommands). Unlike us, they aren't limited by some of the limitations of Flash, since they can just program certain things directly into the firmware.

I didn't quite get what you mean. However: the difference between browsing by "folder" or "album" is in the way how the player interprets the structure of the music collection. Folder browsing is a more "primitive" way, in which the player shows the folder structure exactly how it was copied into the internal memory. Album browser, on the other hand, uses mp3tags (among other things) to re-organize the music collection into a database, effectively ignoring the original folder structure. This means that all the sudden e.g. my "Misc" folder is scattered into several "mini-albums" (because the tags suggest that the music actually belong to different albums). And there are other annoyances as well, so I just use the folder mode to avoid all that.

I could add the option to the turntable UCI to support folder mode, and it would look exactly the same as now (maybe there would be some performance penalty). But I think the matrix style coverflow is not optimal anyway and besides I'm currently working on a completely new UCI so its very likely not going to happen.

el maco: I believe he would be referring to a quick-list in the style of the browser. but light-weight, like Utopia's music UCI has. It loads a browser inside the music UCI, but this quick browser is a LOT faster than the standard browser (or at least, it felt that way to me).

this flash 7 is imo a gift from the gods. considering all other devices with UCI capabilities, most of them are ridiculously limited. in fact, the most you could have done in other UCI functions were replaced icons... which is now completely implemented in Claw's UI.

one of the reasons that they probably didn't implement higher flash is that they probably didn't want flash developers overkilling what cowon can do. i mean if cowon didnt have any firmware and flash limitations, developers can technically create a new kind of S9. in fact, they can say that THEY, the developers, made the S9, not cowon. so imo, this low flash version is an attempt to prevent giving TOO much freedom to developers.

another reason might be exacty what lane32x said. cost and the limited processor (but from the looks of it, the S9 CAN handle flash 8).

anyway, an upgrade to flash 8 would be nice. :)

I don't think that upgrade the flash version would be very useful, especially when I see what dnw or claw are able to do...

imo the really useful modification would be to allow more processor capacity to the flash UCI because actual UCIs (with widget for example) need more capacity (or they'll be slow). However I don't know how many capacity is allowed right now to the flash UCI and until what value it could go...

Well, at various times, Claw has talked about the things he could do if only he had Flash 8. Some, like visualizations, sounded pretty nice.... Still, for me, this goes on the list of things that would be nice, but less useful than some fixes like a Now Playing list and better support of tags (i.e. Disc # tags, etc).

IMO cowon decided to take the "open way" with the S9. We have the possibility to create, share ad modify most of the aspects fo the S9. But imo they should open the player more, i mean add more access to the firmware, to the mp3 tags, to the hardware AND/OR upgrade the flash engine. If they can follow one of these two ways we could be able to create things more interesting for the S9.

i've sent private messages to both cassini and kvazar. I was hoping that either of them would let us play with the .FLA file for Utopia so that we could add the option to change backgrounds. But alas. Neither of them responded so it looks like we're stuck with the red background.

On the flip side, that background IS available for download so that at least you can make the other screens consistent (if you want to)

Does anyone know which UCI adds the following functionality:

1) Album Artist list. The S9 has artists but that really means song writers. I am looking for a UCI that shows the album artist only.

2) Album list to include the artist. Do you know how many artists have albums called "greatest hits"!

I would really enjoy my S9 better with those 2 functions.

I use Claw's Lock Screen widget in conjunction with Translucence (I just renamed his screenlock.swf to lock.swf. Of course I also use it with his own music screen, and U Phail LIfe's Claw Music Mod.
Anyways, this allows you to choose whether shake is enabled or disabled, along with if you want the hard buttons to work or not.

Of course, these settings are only relevant while the screen is on. As soon as the screen goes out, the low-level functions take over, but my screen is on a majority of the time anyways.

I downloaded El Maco's music UI, and I really like it. Makes browsing by folder very, very simple. However, I'm having one problem:

If I select an "album" (i.e. folder), it sometimes opens up the .jpeg cover, and won't play any songs. This is in the music UCI. I can't skip to a song, or anything. So even though there are 20 songs in that folder, and 1 .jpeg, it won't open the music. Any suggestions?

It's been so long since I used the main UCI, but as I recall, shuffle is grouped under the same button which you use to select if you just want to repeat one song, or a folder, or all songs, or if you don't want to repeat anything.... it has a funny symbol in the footer, but people call it "boudnary." I believe it's the button that has almost a play symbol surround be recycle-looking arrows.

several of the other UCI's let you hit shuffle directly, without having to go into a pop-up menu. Claw's UCI lets you customize what's on the footer and re-arrange buttons (you can even put a power button down there)

Edit: Doh! Lane32x beat me to it, and I realize now that my statement was wrong (so I removed it). I use Claw's Wallpaper UI which gives you the option to add the shuffle mode button to the music footer. Lane is correct. The button with the arrows circling on it has the options to set play boundary, repeat mode, and shuffle mode. Shuffle mode is the two parallel arrows.

Thanks!!you can have up to 3 mainmenu UIs and up to only one music UI but with some mainmenu UIs you can have up to 4. mainmenu UI such as Minimal and Black Jenga 2.0. to replace with a new Music UI you'll need to connect the S9 to a PC

And don't forget if you use Claws or Aero, you can add custom icons to launch other music UCI's as well. (I assume you can do this in d.Touch, but I haven't played with it enough to know for sure).

Yes. It's actually another flash app called jeteffect manager.

Basically it allows you to save your custom EQ settings as a TXT file on the computer (unlimited number) and you can quickly load them into any of the EQ1, 2,3, or 4 slots.

The only downside is having to store them in the computer.
The upside is that people can post their EQ settings in a standard way that others can copy and paste into their jeteffect.txt file.
