Hey everybody, i have a small issue. When i try to connect my s9 to my laptop (ubuntu linux 9.04) it doesnt recognize it as an mtp device, only as an msc one. Its not a huge deal, but i would like the ability to use amarok to just sync music, and also use a last.fm scrobber for the device, both of which require mtp. Has anybody else had an issue with this?
I haven't had any problems with Ubuntu as of now, although i had my S9 hooked up to my laptop, rebooted from windows 7, then went into Ubuntu and the S9 was "Media (G:)." It's seen as just a regular Mass Storage device, like a flash drive.
Btw, does switching from mtp to msc and vice versa format the player? The iRiver SPINN did that, so if it doesn't then i'll test in different configurations and get back to you
PS: How are you liking the Jaunty Jackalope?! Man, they've really improved since the last one

The problem like i said isnt really a problem, linux just seems to mount it as a flash drive/external hard drive with the name COWON S9. I can still transfer files and everything so really im just seeing if i can improve it a little bit by being able to use amarok to sync and using an MTP scrobber like qtscrobber.
Switching from msc to mtp does not format the player to my knowledge, cuz all of my stuff is still on there and it takes all of 2 seconds to make the switch, so it wouldnt have enough time to reformat anything.
On the side, i really do like juanty alot, everything just seems to be smoother, and i like the new notification system. I did miss the ctrl+alt+backspace to restart x but i reset that right away so i could use it again :D.
Also, if somebody created a msc mode scrobber this would circumvent the issue that i am having but i havent found anything yet.

I have not a single problem with MTP and my Ubuntu box.
1. Did you install mtp-tools? http://packages.ubuntu.com/nl/jaunty/mtp-tools
2. Did you install amarok? It's one of the few that do support MTP.
Amarok has a special MTP section where you attach the device through MTP.
ALSO: MTP is ADMIN only.
You need to start amarok with sudo rights: from commandline:
gksu amarok
unless you change the permissions.
