Man rockphantom, you made an awesome choice making a Cowon your very first dap....I did the same thing buying a Cowon U2 years ago...little did I know it would spoil me for all other daps. And I've had many since and in the end I always go back to listening to and using my Cowons.
Don't feel bad about the 16gb..my U2 was 256mb...:)

Thanks for the kind words tabv. This situation is bitter sweet for me.
I will mainly use the S9 for listening to FLAC files, so the 32GB capacity S9 would be a better fit for me.

I may put the sealed 16GB S9 on Craig's List on Sunday for $200 in hopes of getting most of my money back. If it sells (that's a big IF), then I will buy a 32GB S9 in May. Craig's List is such a risky site for E-commerce, I am not sure if it is worth the effort.

The online cowon shop list the 16 GB S9 as 349,000 원, and if the 32 GB is 379k 원, that would be an increase of less than 20 euros. So a 20-30 increase in price compared to the current 16 GB price would be reasonable, which is a bit of a steal.

It's the DMB version that's 349,000. The normal 16gb one is 309,000 so it's still gonna be an extra 50 quid or so.

On another note, why can't we get the DMB version in the UK. I assume it's got DAB too like the d2 version. Really fancy a bit of DAB radio!!

Heck yes. Chrome to me is much more sexier than titanium. A finger print magnet, yes. Though I'm more than willing to smear my dirty fingerpritns on it because it is so freakin attractive. I hope it gets released soon.

Well AMOLED screen, good codec support, Cowon's famous audio quality. I miss the touch screen player that is kind of nice. I like that the S9 has the gorilla glass so it should be very scratch proof. I also need a player with a radio in it, I listen to a lot of local sports. Battery life seems to be very good also with the S9. Honestly I don't see what is not to like. Only thing that is missing is wifi but honstly isn't that really a novelty? How many times did I find myself on the net using my ipod touch sitting 10 feet from my computer haha.

If you really need 32gb, kshelton, just get two 16gb S9s. ;) Twice the fun, and you can customize each one differently. Get one in Chrome and the other Titanium, then you'll never regret your choice. Set them both to play the same song, and simulate quadraphonic (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/quadraphonic) sound!

Just don't buy any Sony's..at least in an iem anyway...I have a bunch of them and none of them sound good...they'd waste the sound quality of the S9.

Buy some Shure's as long as it's the 200 series and up....or some Ultimate Ears. The more you're able to spend the better. You need to take advantage of the S9's sound quality.

Don't know anything about the NuForce stuff but I have the RE2s and they are pretty great. I bought back when there was a special "group buy" at $80... [cry]

I still think it was worth it for $80 and at $40, wow. I'm using mine with my M3 and the main problem with them is the bass. It's not a huge problem but at times I could do with just a bit more. For punk and alternative (which is what I listen to most) they are amazing and pack quite a punch. On quieter, more acoustic stuff they have a nice airy soundstage and sound really good (say PJ Harvey's latest or Feist). But when I put on electronic stuff (say Ladytron) I find myself wanting just a bit more bass. Overall they're warm and exciting headphones and apparently they're very well-priced now.

Only other thing I don't like too much is the open back design where your sound is more likely to leak out to those around you (not great for being on the bus for example) and the cord is too inflexible.

So I have the headphones, just need the 32GB S9!

The 8GB S9 is at ~£170 and 16GB S9 is about £200.. so the 32GB should be less than £250. The Sony is about £235.

Good price but shouldn't be used as an indication of what is to be expected when the 32gb model is released outside of S. Korean, this is just a direct Korean won to US dollar conversion.

I would not recommend converting songs into flac unless they were WAV.. you would only have bigger files.

I am able to get over 500 tunes/45 albums on my 16GB S9 in FLAC format and they sound great. FLAC is the way to go, if you want to get the best out of your S9. Though, I wish I had a 128GB S9 so that I listen to my entire CD collection on the go.

I am able to squeeze a 30 minute/300MB album into 180MB using FLAC level 8. Definitely not 10MB per minute! [thumbsup]
I'd say about 6MB per minute depending on the detail of the .wav file.

I'd recommend LAME v0. Highest quality VBR MP3. You can do 320 kbps CBR MP3s, but VBR is much more efficient.

It's not just the space flac takes up. It's that when you convert your original lossy files to flac you won't improve the sound quality of the original files you will only take up more space with no inprovement of sound.

If the S9 doesn't play your lossy files convert them to mp3 lame.

After so many months and months of waiting finally our beloved S9 32GB arrived in UK.At the moment the stock is gone but i hope as you do too that they will bring more later.Even is a little pricy they still sell as hot bread.When i wanted to worder from amp3 they were no more.259 pounds is for now.I had a word with them and told me that the new D2+ will be in stock sometimes next month.

16gb D2 is £160, were looking at twice the capacity and an AMOLED screen for only £100 more.

It's dear for a DAP, but not out of the range of expectation for a premium product.

Hello. I'm a proud 32gb S9 owner as of yesterday (I got it in Korea; it came in the dark gray color). The sound is excellent (significantly better than the Sony Walkman model I have), and with Claw's UI, it's become the first player that I have nothing to complain about (the Sansa Fuze had great sound but no file/folder structure, and it had some strange bugs; the Walkman had no on-the-go playlists). Simply awesome.

Total storage space = 31512 MB and it came with firmware version 2.20.
Unfortunately it didn't come bundled with the crystal case and TV out lead - maybe that's just for the Koreans.

I did hesitate before buying it 'cause I wanted the chrome version, but I got to say the titanium is really nice.
Anyways, I was always going to stick it in a silicone skin,so its colour didn't really matter.

Well the price there is exactly the same as i payed, just convert the coin from pound to dollar and you get the same price.

About the model, when i bout mine, i could have chosen the Chrome but chose the Titanium instead. its a matter of taste. to each his own... i see the seller doesn't keep the Chrome one anymore for some reason.

Idan, I couldn't wait and 2 days ago ordered from N. Korea to Israel the 32GB, Titanium S9. the seller will post it tomorrow and after talking with EMS Israel, understand it should take at least 5 days.

I hoped to have it by Wednesday - Independent Day, and was bummed to understand i wouldn't, but I'm dealing.

I ment by that is it comes with new GUI,or other stuff in wich the 8 and 16 gb didnt come.I know in rest all look the same from outside,but anyway is a very good DAP[yes],and titanium is better then chrome...if you look closer you will see that chrome is not real chrome,and titanium feels more solid.

Not sure but I ordered mine about 3 or 4 days ago and every indication from them is that my order will be filled on the friday delivery. If you're worried you can put in a pre-order without paying anything and they'll let you know as soon as they have one in.

299 is pretty steep from where I sit... it's 50 MORE than the 32gb O2 ($249.95 at newegg), and way more than a 16gb d2+ ($159) and 16gb sdhc card ($30-35). I think a 32gb Sansa View is 199. And this is for a player with no expansion slot. Why make such a constrained, expensive player? I thought that's what the ipod was for ... ;)

Ipod Touch 32gb is $399, a $100 upcharge over the 16gb version. D2 and View have smaller screens. None have AMOLED screens or bluetooth, although the Touch will be getting it for another $10 in June. You've got to compare oranges to oranges. I'd love a lower price, but $299 for a 32gb S9 is right in the ballpark related to the competition. You're not just buying memory. Wait a month or so and after the bleeding edge is done buying and the price may settle down to $279 or lower. Demand is high, and so goes the price.

The ipod touch and the 32gb s9 are both overpriced, not identically priced. They're not comparable devices since the ipod has a wifi internet terminal built-in. I wouldn't buy one myself, but people I know who have them use that feature all the time. They use it for internet browsing more than they use it as a music player.

And yes, if I'm comparing the 32gb s9 to the 16gb s9, I -am- just buying memory, and rather overpriced memory at that. There is no reason in terms of the hardware you get for the s9 to be more expensive than the O2. The 32gb s9 will be more interesting at 250 than 299, but really should be in the 200 range. The O2's more realistic pricing for larger memory probably comes from it having an expansion slot so that users aren't captive.

Anyway, it's just arrived, we'll see how things shape up in coming months.

i dont know about you, but there is a reason for a $50 difference in price between the O2 and the S9. If the s9 was a O2 similiar kind of machine with similar parts then you would be right and there would be no excuse. Between the O2 and the S9, which do you think is better and which would you prefer in terms of everything after not considering price? If your answer is the s9, then that's the answer for why the s9 would be more expensive than the O2 by about $50.
Also the 32gb O2 has been released for sometime now and it's currently 249.99, whereas the 32gb s9 has just been released.

If your have experience in buying products, you should know that they are always overpriced when they first come out. I agree that the 32gb s9 when compared with the 16gb s9 is a bit much, but that's only if you think about the prices from other stuff. Like you are comparing a 32gb sdhc card with a 16gb sdhc card.
So in no way should the price range of the s9 actually belong in the 200 range considering that the 16gb s9 is already 219.99 and the 16gb o2 is 199.99. Price difference between both products are about $20. The 32gb o2 is 249.99, and the 32gb is expected to drop down to around $279.99.. therefore what i'm saying is... that's the range the player should belong in as of now and because of that marketing supply and demand thing, until 64gb players becomes a standard for companies like Apple you can definitely expect 32gb players with more than just standard cheap hardware to be around the range of $300.
