View Full Version : Avi/Xvid/AC3 720x OK?
Hi,
Im hoping to buy a S9, but have a question about the video capabilities:
I have already encoded a lot of my DVDs for my Archos 605 in the following settings (using Handbrake):
- avi container
-Xvid codec (bit rate usually 1500-2000kbps)
-720x res (ie usually 720x304)
-24 fps
-AC3 passthrough
I have already encoded a lot for my 605, and wouldn't really want to re-encode them again. Do you think the S9 play videos with these settings? Or are they too high for it?
Thanks

Haha, kinda funny my last player was a 605 WiFi. I hated that thing with a passion, the only good things about it were the resolution and the speaker. [thumbdwn]

Yeah, it's not that good. The screen is very dull/lifeless (colours very washed out), and I can barely get 3 or 4 hrs out of it.
It does have some redeeming features. Plus I got it as a gift so can't really complain :D

Yeah, I kinda had it for free too.
I bought it from Wal-Mart, used it for 7 months until I got a blue screen (seriously), and no firmware re-install or reset would fix it. So I stuffed it back in the box, took it back to Wal-Mart (7 months later) and got a full refund. Even shipping, since I had ordered it online. [yes]
it looks like the next firmware is upgrading the S9's video capability...or so it translates that way...."- Some high-definition video playback performance "...but high definition is probably translates to 800x600
i liked my archos 605........but i upgraded from an archos av500....sooo yeah
