deleting posts makes the place more tidier
I can't condone the fact that we lost it back in the big update. This was one of the FEW sites that I went too that had it, we need it back.
Is there a problem with contacting the mods to get a post deleted?
Just so we're clear, I'm not saying that I'm against allowing users to delete their own posts. I wasn't in on the reasoning behind the current system, so I couldn't comment either way.
sorry for the late reply, here is the problem,
what we have now... relies FAR to much on the mods, a second party, to do what we should be able to do ourselves, and that is delete out own post.
think about it Don, wouldn't it annoy you if you consently got messages... from me, asking to delete my posts? its just ten times easier and clear to have such a feature.

It hasn't been a problem so far.
i'm with Dominic on this. Tac21 by which Forums are you on that allow you as a normal user to delete your own post? i'm on tons of them and not one can i have that option. as Dominic said it's been fine and no one really complains.
One issue I could see with allowing users to delete their own posts is that it would allow unscrupulous users to 'bait' others. Make an inflammatory post, get responses (possibly also inflammatory) and then delete your original message.
I'd rather have a record out there in those particular cases.

we used to have it WAI, now we don`t- I really liked these forums for being one of the few forums that had it.
i don't think every user should be able to delete his own threads - new users could troll or an important thread with 500 replies could be erased if the OP had a bad day. but i don't see any problem with established, responsible users being able to. maybe we could setup a "trusted member" rank for stuff like this. mods, what say you?

Sweet idea, but there are certain members I wouldn't trust being able to delete their own posts, even though they may have been here for some time, that in itself can be a bit demoralising...then we have an issue if a trusted member gets in a argument with one of us, and decides to cut off his/her nose to spite his/her face....or as you've said, if someone has a bad day...

Given that the number of requests we've received is practically non-existent, I fail to see how the current system is an issue. People can always blank-out their posts if they're worried about the contents, and that way we don't need to worry about people deleting threads in a fit of pique.
