View Full Version : What are the album art TABS?

I did try searching for topics on this, but am not even sure what to call the things involved.

So the Cowon S9 displays album art--normally in a white bordered square. pretty simple--but when viewing one album, I see the same square, but with three tabs (like folder tabs) in the upper-left hand corner, and the border (including tabs) periodically blinks green.

I have no idea what this means. I tried poking the tabs--nothing. Swiping up and down on the touchscreen does nothing, and side to side obviously switches tracks. there is no other album art in the folder, and all of the images attached to the song in the folder are the same. when I go to a different album, this stuff goes away, but comes back when I return to this album. please note that I am viewing this all through the [Folders] directory in music--I don't like using tags so much as my own organizational system.

anybody know what this means?

I think its something for the future - next release.
That's what I assume.

actually I have this appear on one of my albums. It cycles through the tabs at regular intervals (2 seconds) and displays different album art on each tab. I guess I have more than one album art associated to the album. I have 2 for this particular album.

aAAAAaaah...so for mine, they must of put up three of the same album art. interesting.

thanks for the info! that solved a strangely confounding mystery.

yup, also the CurveS theme's music screen also cycles through the different album art as well.

I'll agree... Wow! Knowing this you could use any images, and get the S9 to cycle through them. I might make B&W or negative copies of the actual art to go with it.

Could someone time the cycle rate? How long does it leave each image on the screen?

Do the multiple images have to be in the music folder? If so, is there an standard for naming them?

there are no images in my folder; they have been clipped into the file with a program (jetaudio can do it), although I am unaware of a way to attach multiple images to one file. so I'm assuming it would be able to do that with any image associated with the file, including those in the folder itself.

not sure if this works for this... but I have attached multiple coverarts to a song before using mediamonkey

That's the program I use.

Right-click a song or a selection of songs.
Go to properties.
Click on the Album Art tab
Click Add
Browse to a .jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif and select.
Make sure "Save image to tag (if possible)" is selected.
Rinse.Lather.Repeat

I don't know what's the limit of how many images you can store in the tag. I'll try it later tonight.

Edit: Did the test. Threw 15 different album arts onto one song. The S9 only displays six of them. So I guess the limit is six ;)

Could you time the image change? Does the time between images change with fewer images?

Thanks again.

No, the number of images doesn't affect the time, it is a constant speed. Pauses on the images for 5 seconds before displaying the next one. When it finishes displaying the last image, it will start with the first image again.

If you use MediaMonkey, you can change the order of which images are displayed first.

Just out of curiousity, do you have your photo slideshow delay time set to 5 seconds? It would be nice to see if the pace was controlled by a system variable.

I've looked but I can't find the setting you speak of. Let me know where it is and I will test it.

I've made the album art flash Green while doing a flick on the screen...

Now it stands out that the S9's photo app doesn't have slideshow timing. I was also reminded it still keeps icons on the screen during slide show. Sorry.

I thought all the tabs mean that you had multiple albums from one artist because I only have one image associated with each song. It's cool though that you can associate more than one album cover per song and it'll cycle through those as well.

For anyone still not getting what all the fuss is about, here's a movie showing the album art changing:

Today I noticed this for the first time on one mp3 file. So a moment ago I added the file to the library in WMP. (When I want to embed album art I use WMP 10.) And just as I thought, I could see all the pictures/album art associated with the file. The silly thing is, the art was all the same. [thumbdwn] I'm not sure how I managed to add the same picture 3x. [confused] Anyway, I deleted two of the pictures. I'm gonna play around with this, though. :D

Cool find.

If you use MP3Tag what you do is add album art (if not added already) then right click on the album art and you can then set what type of image it is of. You can do this multiple times of course

See attached image
