View Full Version : S9 scratching for anyone else?

Well it's happened. I have a confirmed scratch in mine. Nothing to get all excited about, but it's definite. You really have to look at it just right, but it runs from the top near the play/pause button diagonal down to about the middle right. VERY hard to see. though just tested and if you pull your fingernail very slowly across it you can just feel it hitting the scratch.

This is only after 2 weeks. I'm a little worried so am looking into reviving/reinstalling the invisible shield again.. worth another shot anyway.

nope. no scratches on mine. banged it on the edge of a desk on accident, threw it in with my cellphone. still cool. i do freak out, but i figure they're just dust.

sorry to hear faoronin!

thanks.. put the invis shield back on the front at least.. as usual they cut just big enough that you wish it was about a millimeter smaller, so trimmed a tiny bit off rather than deal with rounded edges.. And of course since this is the second install and it's got imprints on the glass side. Very ugly looking, but no bubbles. And it's protected now from my obviously superior ability to destroy things.

No scratches, and I keep my S9 in my pocket without any protection (but no sharp/hard objects in my pocket).
And I'm surprisingly not worried about damaging it =O

Ditto!

S9 is in my pocket without protection but not other things in with it.
But I did have a few times where I put my keys and/or coins in with it and it was not scratched or even has a dent in it.

That glass seems perfectly fine metal objects beside it.

No scratches yet after over 2 months. Dropped it on my foot yesterday...I can confirm that it is not cheaply built from how bloody much it hurt.

Did the same^ yesterday and it landed on the screen (on wood). I was listening to Snoop dog in the process... "drop it like it's hot"...
And of course no scratch.. :)

Oh yeah I forgot.
Mine fell about 30 feet last week and had nothing but some dirt on it :D

I don't have any scratches, and I'm not handling it with care or something. Any other device would've been scratched by now.

Like I said.. i'm just especially good at destroying things.

And after letting this invis shield sit on their overnight, I have to admit it looks a LOT better. It pretty much settled in. Not perfect mind you, but a lot better. I've ordered a bestskins blank and will try and cut my own via a template i've made and see how that works as well.

I piced up the Javoedge Screen Protector, it is really clear and does not mess up the screen in anyway, it was also the first protector I have used that went on perfectly with no bubbles etc.

I recently received the stock back plastic screen protector. I kinda like it.

i got a tiny tiny little scratch on mine in the middle of the screen too. Im sort of confused as to how it happened because my s9 always stays in my pocket with nothing else in it except for headphones. The headphones could of done it because they have sharp metal edges i guess. But i am now awaiting the shipment of my javoedge screen protector because of said scratch.

No I was on the 1st floor hanging over the railing looking down while playing with my S9 when someone bumped into me. Let it drop and the headphones plug didn't hold it for me to pull it up. It almost fell on concrete :D

wait wait... so... let me understand this.
The S9 CAN'T get scratched from metal from a range of quarters to knives, and wont scratch from falling or impact or whatever, BUT it can and WILL get a scratch from not coming in contact with anything but your fingers for an extended amount of time?

is that why screen protectors work so well? because it's always touching the screen?
o_O hmm strange idea, would be very funny if scratches happens by itself UNLESS you regularly try to scratch the screen.

Well, just found this video on youtube.
Take a look and judge for yourself.
Fake or not fake?!

YouTube - Crash test: Scratch the shell COWON S9 http://dmitry-denisiuk.blogspot.com/

Btw, i wouldn´t try it on my own S9 ;)

Well, as further proof of my insane ability to destroy those items I hold most dear.. I have also now nearly knocked off the stop/start button at the top of my S9.

It's heading back as a return, and the new one is on the way.. WITH a 1 year replacement plan :)

Also, the mirror javoedge thing is a SUPER fingerprint magnet. But it does look cool. Makes video impossible to watch. Not that you can't see it, but it's making me dizzy cause of the weird colors etc. the clear javoedge works fine. NOT scratch proof though. I will say that the bestskins stuff is nearly the same as the invisible shield product, but they don't offer a cut to size version. I bought a couple sheets of the do it yourself stuff and am now protecting everything in my house with all the extra. My children are up for their fitting soon.....

I have some tiny nicks and a crack on the edge of the screen. I didn't sit on it or intentional scratch it. I've been very good to my S9. But it's very small, light weight, and seems to end up under things. I really wish I had a metal case for it.

I also have the stock cowon S9 screen protector. It has two advantages if you ask me.
1)Fingerprints are less visible as on glass and more easy to clean(one wipe)
2)protects against dirt that can make glass not really scratch but less clear after a year or so.

btw. Also ordered the anti fingerprint protector, tip from dalmane98.

yep, it shows up as a nice rainbow colored line

also, dust got under the screen. what the !@#$ is going on?

Dust ALWAYS finds its way under the screen. It's happened to every device I own, from my several gameboys and Nintendo DSs to my ipod mini to my d2. It's unfortunate, but you will simply have to deal with it and possibly find a way to prevent more dust from getting in.
As for the scratches, I would recommend a screen protector to all once and future buyers. My d2 has a bazillion scratches without one, and judging from this thread, I will be getting one for my s9.

How you people get scratches on there is a puzzle to me[shocked]. I dropt it in with keys and money. Also dropt it several times on the screen. Sand/ dust under the screen is almost not avoidable. Try to put in a silicon case and avoid jeans with sand i would say, don't take it to the beach:)

Do you reckon it's possible that some of the earlier S9's didn't have Cornings Gorilla glass and that the later models do? I got some scratches on mine, and I'm very careful with it.

03-05-2009, 15:28
If that is true, some of us are really screwed big time. It is a good question though! I got my S9 in the beginning of januari. And i have glass, Gorilla glass or normal i don't know. But there are people who say there screen feels like plastic. Makes you wonder....[blink]

I asked them if all the S9's have Corning Gorilla Glass, here's the reply I got.

"Dear Conor

Thank you for using COWON S9.

COWON S9 Glass made by Corning Gollila Glass from the beginning.

If you have further questions, feel free to ask us again.
Thanks again for using the customer support at cowonglobal.com.

Kind Regards,

COWON"

One of my friends must have stood on mine while it was face down on the fireplace concrete. I had a feeling that must have been it. I got a screen protector that reduces fingerprints and makes the scratch I got invisible. So it's all good.

^Time for payback[devil] , stamp on his ipod(without Corning Gorilla Glass) he will have a lot more damage as one scratch!!

btw. unless he also has an S9 and than you can see if it causes the scratch in the first place;)

But it is good to hear that all S9 have the Gorilla glass so no one can blame the screen, but i'm now using a screenprotector just to be safe[blush]

the novus stuff does work, but not on the s9 (for removing scratches). at least not #1 or #2. #3 might actually be too rough and ruin the finish if not used very carefully.

Ive got a few tiny scratches on mine, and they are extemely anoying, knew I should of got a screen protector / BSE / invisi-shield from the start...

Funny thing is, I keep mine in a case all the time, rediculous, every product I own gets scratched (even with a BSE / IS on) :/

I had some scratches and, no kidding, the brasso worked great. Spent 5 bucks on the brasso (new brassoonly, I hear) and some super-soft felt polishing rags (no microfiber) at the local hardware store, took my time (half hour? han hour?) while watching some tube polishing in one direction, no more pressure than the weight of my hands and taking care not to get it in the cracks, and WHALLA! it worked! The small scratches on my screen are gone, and a moderately deeper scratch is nearly indistinguishable from the rest of the screen.

And I've read this before wondering "man, is this just a plant from the brasso corporation bent on saving it's ailing industry from the effects of the revolutionary anti-brass loby?", but seriously, this shit works if you're careful and patient.

I use enough Brasso to save them. I love the stuff. Cleans the headers on my bike perfectly. Makes the silencer shine like new. Brasso rules!
