ok, for the past few weeks since getting my s9 iv'e been trying it out as an ebook and here are my findings:

Screen:
The screen is extremely nice to read on - better than the lcd on my old pda :) i find i can read it or at least 4hrs with no problem so thats a good point for the s9!

Turning pages:
This is one of the cons of the s9,the keys are placed awkwardly on the top of the player - this makes it a bit uncomftable to use especially if you have small fingers but if you have long fingers you shouldn't have that many problems with it.

Battery:
So far i haven't had any probleems with the batter with the setting on 2# brightness but i think if you put it on the highest level you'll probably get 4-5hrs.

Ebook conversion:
Here lies the biggest problem of using the S9 as an ebook reader, i have had put my entire libry onto it only to dicover a majot malfunction: the speech marks ("") and sometimes hyphons (-) DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME :(

i have tried alot to remedy this but nothing works. i tried converting with abc lit. converter but it doesn't work. So until cowon fixes this with the firmware you'd better wait - or get the p3 if it's out or maybe that walkman x100.

with that said, the cowon s9 is stil an excellant mp3 player, it just doesnt work well with ebooks.

p.s does somebody have a diff. font pack than the oine that comes with the s9? i want to put it in - see if anything changes.

if anyone has suggestions to fix this, please post below and i'll follow up, i realy do hope this glitch will be remedied in the future either by fellow people in he forum or by cowon itself

... a gesture for the page turner would be really nice. the one like choosing the next song in the "now playing" mode. it has been already implemented by samsung in P2 model, so there nothing new to invent here really.. i hope it will be added in upcoming firmware updates..

.. and of course a HORISONTAL screen option for the text reader is a must option.

these two i really miss in S9.

get a UCI for it. you can do horizontal. im sure someone can make a gesture page turner. just that no one is really focused on text reading right now.

well i kind of feel obliged to answer my own question. a horisontal gesture page turn is already implemented in a document reader. :)

i wonder how i missed it.. [confused]

yeah im thinking about it, in another thread someone recommended me converting my ebooks into jpg to keep my pictures in it, works on the pc but on the s9 there are some strange display failures the txt isnt very practicable because there are getting holes in the txt because of the missing pictures and it is very bad formated so i dont know what to use

Well there isn't actually an ebook reader, i just changed my ebooks into txt. files and then put them into the s9... though creating an ebook reader for the s9 would be cool, i don't know anyone who has any incentive to do it and peope who do want it, won't know how to make it - like me :)

btw, i did try your file converter a while back. nice try. i just realized to use
http://w5.media-convert.com/. i converted one ebook to .swf, and my player got stuck. ill try again, on a smaller file.

i converted the jetaudio50_beta_manual_eng (1.42mb) pdf into .swf and that didn't work either.

it would be great to read pdf's on the s9
