View Full Version : Love the O2... disappointed in bass

my old h320 beats my O2 in the bass department. unfortunate because i NEED BASS. i found this out be testing both players with the same song alternately.
I have my EQ's last two bass bands at +9 and +7 respectively, and use Mach3Bass at +3 usually.
problem is if I tweak the bass any more, bass drums get terrible "bass fart" and become distorted. very disappointing. for tracks that aren't as bass drum-heavy I can turn up the Mach3 to about 8, any more and distortion occurs.
at any rate it is impossible to get "max bass" out of my player, especially for R&B and many industrial tracks.
anybody else have this problem?

nope.....
try in-ear phones if you want enhanced bass.....I also require heavy bass and so I do not use big headphones or little earphones, I exclusively use in-ear ones cos I beleive they have the best bass.
And also try using different EQ settings to maximise your bass without "bass-fart". I find rock combined with max bbe, m3b, 3d and mpe altogether at level 10 provides the clearest and most resounding bass.

well there's your problem... you need to do something with every band, not just the first two...Try pushing the 3rd and 4th bands a little while tweaking the higher ones as well for whatever balance you need. otherwise no matter what i do usually, i find it near impossible to get the farty bass.. i think its your headphones.
yeah, you dont have something right because ive had settings where the bass was so much and deep that i actually started feeling nauseous....and it was pure bass...not crappy distorted bass...look for the locked thread about "perfecting your 10 band eq" the first post has quite a good setting for bass...too much for me...but still
check your phones, what kind do you have? Or check your settings on o2. I have a couple of headphones I use. My Sonys sound really deep and tight with the o2, and my v moda's I actually have to crank the bass down when i use them on o2. It does not distort with those, just too powerful for the ears.

check my sig for what headphones i use. thanks for the advice. i tried using the Rock setting with everything else max, surely the bass goes up but still distortion on songs with heavy bass drum. blat blat blat
i've got the rock setting right now with BBE 10, M3B 8, and 3DS 5. much better bass on most tracks but still distortion especially with R&B and hip-hop.
one that distorts the most is "ghetto love" by jaheim. pretty much unlistenable unless bass is turned down.
my dt770s with amp distort the most, while my se530s do not distort as much but still pick up distortion.
wtf...

I thought I was the only one to get bass nausea from the O2's excellent sound.......lol!

thanks guys for your advice. i am finding out bass is to be had through the M3B and not via EQ and i am getting great bass with most of my songs now with the Rock EQ with
BBE 10 M3B 8 MPE On 3DS 5
sometimes i find that the bass sounds clearer on some songs with MPE off though. hmmm.
however not all is perfect. d'angelo and wu-tang still give some staticky bass drums so have to turn off MPE and lower the bass EQ.
SP
excellent, glad to know your problem is resolved! I have some unwanted bass vibrations on some lower quality tracks as well but by simply tweaking the jeteffects or using normal/rock EQ as I see fit I am able to get rid of 'em. 3D also sometimes adds some bass rumble and increasing BBE or reducing 3d does a not for maintaining bass depth and eliminating rumble.
