(I wonder how this thread will go or even lift off)
Since there is so much hate and negativity for the O2 what are some things that you like about it?
for me..
-the 4.3 in screen
-the fact that it has a speaker
-plays A LOT of my videos without conversion.
-the design just looks [cool]
-Its a lot lighter than my A2 and much more portable than past PMPs that use hard drives .
-the calculator is really helpful for me in my math class.
-the build quality is good. When I don't use it I put it in this pocket in my backpack that has bunch of coins and keys(don't know why) and it doesn't have any scratches except couple little ones near the speaker.

its a no BS player...no podcasts...internet...music stores...video stores...come with a charger...its just a simple player that plays music very well and plays a lot of videos...it has everything you would want and nothing you dont...on my archos 605 there were 4 icons that i never even touched...ever...out of 8!

I like the touchscreen, it is very sensitiv and altouth the icons etc are very small I have no big problems with navigating.
As allready said, the design is great and the support for videos is unreached. I love that I can drag and drop every videos I have on the o2 and watch them.
Listening to music also is amazing, but I think it is with most of the Cowon-players.

I like the audio. SQ is amazing. The album art looks fantastic now. Its just so nice looking at the player while it plays songs now. The video looks very very good. Strong battery life. Understated beautiful looks. Build quality is excellent. Picutres and wallpapers look so crisp and vivid. I actually do like the clean UI(souple main icons on front page, leaves more real estate for wallpaper), but the font needs to be changeable and bigger icons.

I could go on and on....but I will just mention what edges it in front of all other present competition a-la archos, ipod and even S9/D2.

Nice loud (with new firmware) speaker for sharing songs and movies.....

It has major mundo battery life for any video focused player I have seen!

Huge wonderful splendid and responsive(with new firmwares) touchscreen

File-tree browsing!

Very good SQ

High capacity Flash together with SD slot beats hard-drives and flash without SD any day! My songs are 16GB all told and I have around 60GB of video content, sorry my beloved S9, you just cannot deal with that kind of pressure......

Very simple, straightforward and easy to use once you get the hang of it......

Powerful codec support....I mean ogm plays....wow! Nothing else plays ogm.

RECENT FILES LIST IS MANNA STRAIGHT FROM HEAVEN! I LOVE THAT FEATURE!

Player is very svelte and looks absolutely wonderful and solid......I am always showing off my O2. I think this is important....the player looks and is durable without being unattractive, few players can claim this. Oh, and it fits in my tightest jeans pocket with ease and comes out much easier than a slimmer player would.

GUI (apart from file browsing) is modern and nice with a beautiful colour scheme (I am adding this because of those D2-UI-on-the-O2-mockups which seem very retro, ugly cluttered and dull)

No bullshit features.....you guys don't know how FANTASTIC this is........except bdroc......one of the main reasons i got this O2.

I read many e-books and O2 has a huge screen for me to do that with customizable text.....now I have a white text on black background.....i will post a thread about this eventually.

I use the calculator app more than I expected to.....my O2 is around me so much that it is much easier to reach for than my TI-84, especially since the O2 has a scientific calculator.

I occassionally record english lectures for later review.

Did I mention that it plays nearly every media file I have without conversion?

Sorry I guess I did go on and on....please forgive me, I realised I had a lot to say only after i had started listing.

What I like: Audio quality and enhancements (for audio, unfortunately not for video), low background hiss, recent files list, no video conversion needed for 90% of my videos, file/folder (I hate ID3 browsing), MSC (I hate MTP), pan/balance, sleep timer (even though it's hidden too deep in the system settings).

have to agree with most others, SQ kicks ass. i believe this is really just a music-first player with a big screen.

will play just about any video without re-enoding, pan and scan is a deal-maker!

expandable memory- you would think others would have thought of this...

did i say sound quality?

the touch screen is a deal-maker for me. it's not as hard to navigate for me as some may have made it, but scroll bars and buttons could be bigger. but i believe the O2 was made for a stylus and not fingers.

it's not the be-all-end-all video player the A3 is but if want to just throw your files on something and have them play with high quality the O2 is for you.

sleep timer (even though it's hidden too deep in the system settings).

AHA! i as well LOVE this feature...especially since i dont think there is a way to stop a folder from playing every video in it and ebooks dont turn off when they are idle...idk how many times ive fallen asleep reading a book to find out my player is still on with low battery or dead

expandable memory- you would think others would have thought of this...

yes, but i think most of us are listing a few features we like so others can say stuff without it being repeated

its nice to see a lot of posts with stuff that they like about this player that are...more or less exclusive to it...with only a few competitors

Along with the other GOOD things listed here, i'd like to add the quality of signal delivered to my car audio system via auxiliary input. I've been able to compare it to the quality delivered directly by the stereo head unit(a sony) and I have to say that the bass sounds more deep and overall frequencies are more "present". In addition, watching a movie in the car and feeling the vibrations from the SUB its trully amazing. Not that i'd use it to see movies while i`m driving :)), but this device accompanied by a specially made car holder and bigger touch screen buttons, would be my biggest joy in the car.

SQ, SD slot for expansion, that it's flash based memory, that it connects through simple mini-usb (makes sharing things on the go much easier). I like the overall design - I have a leather case on mine, so people tend to overlook it, then I'll flip it open and they'll see nothing but screen and eyes bug out. I like how bright and colorful the screen is.

I like the text reader (though it's not perfect), and I like the little icon down at the bottom that lets you change songs while reading without having to go through the main menu. I like the multitude of options that you have for text and background colors in the text viewer.

I like the file/folder system of navigation, because it lets me easily take anything from my computer and transfer it over.

I like that it charges quickly. I like the calculator on it, because it comes in handy at the oddest times.

I like the notepad. It saves me from boredom during long lectures, because drawing doodles of my professors is more entertaining than trying to listen to them.

In addition to all of the other things noted, I particularly like the DMB recording capability and video out. I realize that the A3 has video in/out, which would have been a little nicer for making it a portable DVR, but the optional cable allows you to output your vids on almost any monitor. This is particularly useful for traveling, as I hate TV. W/ the O2 and the video out cable, just hook it up and you get large screen video, excellent sound in a flash (pun). By the by, hooking up the O2 to a DVR allows you to dump your DMB recordings to DVD w/o loss of quality. Finally, I wasn't fond of the ivory color, because it was too ipod-y. I've come to like it better than the dark metallic appearance of my other PMPs.

me too man, but it takes too long to go to the settings and set it up, though I try to set it to 4 hours when I got to bed, read or watch something for a while, and then when I am too sleepy to keep my eyes open, listen to some music until I finally sleep. Very good stuff, when I remember to set it......it's too far to go to get easily.

Definitely the following, in no particular order:

SQ
Insane codec support
SD card expansion
Battery life
Drag-n-drop PC interface

Actually, in exactly that order! At least these are my top 5.

I agree 100%... I've talked to plenty of ipod touch obsessors and the first questions that come out of their mouth is, "does it have internet?" then i respond with another question, "do i need internet?" I swear thats all they care about is the crap that defeats the purpose of a pmp such as apps (apps apps apps SHUT UP[cursing] they're not that great just buy a freaking nintendo ds if you like apps so much).. And the fact that many players only come with a usb cable to charge with also defeats the purpose. If you want portability in a media player, you'll want to have it charged asap! with usb, it takes much much longer to charge fully.

It's not hard to love the O2. I love:

-- Simplicity
-- Sound
-- Drag-n-Drop Files
-- 32GB capacity
-- SD Slot
-- Battery Life (though it could be longer)
-- Multitasking (being able to browse files while songs/videos are playing)
-- Various video format support
-- Voice recorder

It's not perfect, but I won't waste the thread's title by listing its imperfections. I'm perfectly happy with my purchase! :D

have you even met someone that has an iphone and an ipod touch........i have...and that was the day i lost faith in humanity...

ive played around with an ipod touch...and people seem to love it because things look pretty on it...they slide smoothly, they're bright...no wonder idiots buy it...its like a toy for a 5 year old...shiny, bright, and pretty...

as far as apps are concerned...few of them are USEFUL on a daily basis...so many of them are just flashy....i saw one that was a level...you know...the tool with the bubble....WHAT IN THE NAME OF GOD IS THAT USEFUL FOR....who is going to use their 350 dollar ipod to hang a painting!!?? not to mention most of the games on it get boring is 20 seconds...and then i actually want to listen to music or watch a video and i have to convert everything i own and bear with the subpar quality...i could go on for days...but these are the reasons i chose NOT to buy a touch and go with something more for my tastes...

the cowon is a bulky hunk of plastic that is the spitting definition of a PMP and stops at that. good enough for me.

there's no point in me listing the same thing everyone else already listed (i.e. battery, codec support etc.), instead let me tell you what is and always will be the best thing about the O2, and really any other Cowon products: They're different! Not just from ipods, but from all the other mp3-players around. they're not really the most conventional players, but they always look good and they're always practical. And they've got one feature that kinda sets them apart from other "conventional" players, for the O2 that would be the User Programs, for the D2 the Flash-support and -skins, for the M3 the Line-in recording.

and there's also the tremendous battery life, the huge range of video support, great SQ, tiny little speaker on the back and the gigantic screen.

I like the screen size, it's hard to go back to a smaller screen.

I like that it plays all my .avi files without converting.

I especially like that it plays .srt subtitle files with the .avi videos.

I like the interface. I particularly like the way it resumes using the recent files feature. That was new to me and I think it's a first rate way to keep up.

I listen to audiobooks and I watch videos a lot; with this player it's mostly videos, and that makes it really simple to go to different files and keep my place. I don't have to remember what I've been listening to. It's all right there in the recent files.

I also like the folder browsing. For me that makes a lot more sense than ID3 browsing. It would be nice to have quicker access to the SD card but that's pretty minor to me and I wouldn't lose the folder browsing to get it.

All in all I think this is a really nice player.

One of the key things about the O2 is it's size. I always concentrated on small PMP's such as Creative's ZVM and the Archos 405, thinking portability was King. After all, some players are so big, you need 2 hands to hold them.
Might as well get a mini-laptop.
But the O2 is just small enough to comfortably hold in one hand, yet big enough to have a great screen.
All the other things stated before are a bonus.

I'll add one feature that no-one else has mentioned:
The ability to COPY files. So simple. So useful.
I download podcasts and music using my phone. Then I pop out the micro-SDHC card, stick it in the adapter, put it in the O2, and copy the files over, then I can just put the SDHC card back in my phone.
It's bad enough that most players don't even support memory cards, but the copy feature is icing.

This is a FanTAStic feature... thx! [thumbsup]

My Turn!:

What I really Dig about my new O2PMP is:

:jamming:1) Sound Quality which for me trounces the D2 (for my Ear) which made me a RABID COWON and BBE Sound Convert. Taught me what Music was over simple Audio.

:D2) Browser and File Management: You can copy & move & past & delete & shortcut to Favorite List files, I don't know how to use Recents, anyone care to educate in some Other thread??? :-)

[yes]3) The SD(HC) Host (and I guess XD or MiniSD and MicroSD (with adapters)(never thought of that, sweet!!!)) Function. I really was demanding SD(HC) expandability but didn't expect Host function like the A3 had. Cool!!!

[blink]4) Screen Real Estate. Need I say more? OK, I will... Have you noticed how most everything is Congruent size-wise? it's very easy on the brain to Moi. Like the widgets all line up logically in rows and columns. Brains like mine like stuff like that. It's comforting somehow. Throw me a pacifer.

[wacko]5) It likes my entire IEM collection, but really, it likes my entire FILE collection more than that!

That's my "simple" Top 5! I'm striving to be terse, but I'm so verbally bubbly right now. It's a phase. Bear with me... OH and enjoy the BBE Sound for Goodness Sake! :jamming:

It's simple really. Just go to the main menu and choose the recent files icon on the far left. You will see all the media you didn't allow to play to conclusion, i.e if you turned off the O2 or chose something else in the middle of viewing it. To resume exactly where you stopped press on the item and voila, you continue exactly where it stopped. You can change filetype and delete file (not the file itself but it's virtual bookmark which is located in the recent files list) with the buttons on the menu-bar below.

BTW, that thing down there; what is the official name? The thing with all the options on it? optionbar? toolbar? menubar? what?

I like Menubar, only for the simple (which the O2PMP does well, "simple") fact that the thingy at the "Bottom" hehehe most of the screen is the Taskbar, which makes the thingy above it something 'else, which is what we are discussing in this grammatically rip-roaringly awful sentence; but i digress, to the point where I've Decided to Christen it the Menubar because it has a big GaWdY "M" on the Right Hand Side, so "Menubar" I doth Chisten Thee. I have a Bunch of PMP's a Ipod Touch, Cowon A3, S9, and Now a O2. The O2 has become my all around favorite PMP. I love the Size and build, the SD Card ability, and the fact it plays pretty much any file I've thrown into it, and I may be in the minority but I like its simple easy to use GUI. I'd like EQ ability in the vid section, but even as is it sounds good with a decent pair of phones.

Which says a lot. I got myself an O2 rather than a D2+ because of:

1) I found a Used (remanufactured) unit on JetMall's Amazon store for a fraction of the cost of New, I'm happy to report no problems after my time with it! [thumbsup].

2) dfkt's reccomendation on it's SQ (Sound Quality) over the "classic" D2

3) it's use of TI Chips (hey I'm buying American for a reason, our economy is in the crapper... [cry])

4) my positive experience with TI's Burr-Brown Division's OPA627AU OP-AMPs got me interested in the TI DaVinci Chipset over the Wolfsom DAC in the D2. I'm proud to report it is quite bassy, at least with my IEMs, especially with my manually modded & manually ported ones (i manually ported my Phonak Audeo's as a veeery expensive experiment last night with AwEsOmE success in both Bass -AND- Treble ranges) and the Sleek Audio SA-6 IEM's which were less dangerous to port manually (they have modular rubber bass port caps, which you can cut up and replace if you blow it...) read more on my blog at: amot.wordpress.com (http://amot.wordpress.com/)

5) Video capacity: I really wanted to make use of this and with the: "All + Ways" advertised on COWON's site & confirmed in these forums I can report I am happy with the results so far.

I did a survey in my school where the first 50 pple to respond would get a $200 iphone 3G gift-card. I won and since I already have a phone and have no intention of paying AT&T's exorbitant rates or get a social security number (don't ask why I don't have one, I'm working on it) I decided to add $30 and get myself a 2G 8GB touch so I can fully compare, with an option of returning the ipod and selling my O2 to get a 32GB touch if I so wished. However I have to say the O2 is currently trouncing my touch on many fronts so I haven't felt any need to sell the O2.

This is all slightly off-topic but hey, it all goes to show how much I like my O2.

yeah its a pretty good beast...i still use it every day...i use it for audiobooks and videos...even though the s9 has a better screen...i find its too small to fully enjoy tv shows and movies, unless they are comedies, where the action doesnt have to be big...also audiobooks help me sleep and there doesnt seem to be a sleep timer on the S9...or a speaker...and i wouldnt like waking up to a dead battery and too many chapters ahead.......

I just got my O2, and I don't understand why people complain about the interface. I think it is just fine. I have no issues with it. Easy to understand, and easy to use. I use a pen, not my fingers to operate the touch-screen though. That helps!
To bad the ALAC-support is flawed.
