Just thought that everyone should know- musiciansfriend.com and guitarcenter.com is selling the SHURE SCL4 (E4C rebranded) in white for $79. That's $170 off the retail price! I'm adding this to the accessories list just because it's such a nice deal. Bought 2 pairs for myself and GF to upgrade over Senn CX300s and can not believe the difference it made. Worth a look!

BlackRiders:

The jetmall web site states there is no beltloop or armband loop. So, no; it will not work with the S9 carring case found here: http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=470

Jetmall doesn't ship to Australia but i want to buy:
COWON S9 LCD Protective Film (http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=472)

COWON S9 Clear Plastic Case (http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=471)

Any idea where to buy then?

myenhdl

eBay sells the clear LCD film, not COWON brand but similar. If I find the plastic case somewhere else, I'll post it here. Meanwhile, you can try to send jetaudio (ebay seller) a message to ask them to list the accessory. At least they gave me a date on when they'll list the O2 when I asked before the release date. Hope this helps.

Shame about the Noreve case. I was looking forward to it, but that's just a few too many buttons covered. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone sees the benefit of having a screen protector for a scratchproof screen? In particular, how resistant is the s9's tempered glass screen against dirty fingerprints?

myenhdl
01-12-2009, 13:26
The tempered glass is very scratch resistant. I have carelessly slipped my S9 into my pocket full of keys and coins, and no scratch. There's a video somewhere showing a guy attempting to scratch his S9 with a metal fork and knife, and fails. (I'll post link to video when I find it) And then there was a user on this forum that tried an xacto knife and scratchless. I wouldn't use a screen film/protector unless you want to make the screen matte or anti-reflective.

The screen is a bit of fingerprint/bodyoil magnet. A quick wipe on your shirt or sleeve will solve this! (And wont have to worry about scratches like my phone)

I just got my silicone skin in the mail from ebay.. It's not bad but not anywhere near the quality of the javoedge i have on my D2.. Beware: The black skin is NOT black, it's gray.
Anyway, still happy my S9 is a lil' more protected.. I ordered a screen protector but never got it.. I'm gonna wait til javoedge release theirs. They make the best protective films by far.

Screen is scratch proof, I just want something for the fingerprints.

I see that Cowon released there own bluetooth headphones for the s9, does anyone know if these work? Amazon.com: Motorola S9 Stereo Bluetooth Headset [Bulk Packaged]: Cell Phones & Service

I just ordered them and these would do me better than the ones cowon has on sale.

myenhdl
01-17-2009, 17:26
I believe the S9 in the moto title is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with Cowon's products. Judging by the reviews on the amazon page, it should work as it pairs with PSP, Zune and cellphones.

Not to mention the thing hanging would just the ear phones down, on some of the noise cancelling earphones I have the noise reductions just drags the earphones down. I'd have to put the s9 in one pocket and the bluetooth headphones in another pocket. 1 step forward 2 steps back.

I like the design of the motorola s9 much better.
Even if they don't work i'll just sell them and wait for cowon to release something more like the moto s9 blue tooth headsets.

Those are nice, but a little topricey for me. I could prob go as high as 75-100 dollars.

I'm hoping the motorola s9 ones I bought work fine. Because I prefer the form factor of those much better.

Those are really nice, but at 200 dollars I can't justify that amount of money for earphones. Hopefully the moto s9 work perfectly.

maybe in a couple of years as more and more pmp/dap/mid get bluetooth more and more bluetooth headsets will come out.

ya I might get the leather carrying case...can't find a case that actually fits AND has openings for the buttons.

BTW what was mentioned about the iriver Clix cable being compatable in the first post, the clix cable is completely incompatable. The SPINN does use the same, but the clix 1 uses something like the Samsung P2 and some LG cellphones. Clix 2 uses a standard mini-USB.

I bought a screen protector from eBay from a seller called fx-schutzfolien, it covers the whole front and works great. It doesn't really show fingerprints when your S9 is off and otherwise they're easy to wipe away. The screen looks just as good as without a protector. I had one from this seller on my O2 and it came off (after 1,5 week of use) without leaving any residu or other unwanted stuff. The screen was as clean as if it was new out of the box :)

It cost me roughly 5 euros including (superfast) shipping to the Netherlands, it's sent from Germany. I can recommend this seller as my O2 protector was too big so I had to cut it and when I complained about that they send a fitting replacement free of charge.

I got both the Anti-Glare and Crystal JavoEdge protectors. The Anti-Glare one distorted the screen way to much for my liking, so I went with the clear one. It prevents finger prints a LITTLE. Just slightly better than naked...so don't get it if that's your ultimate goal.

I was actually disappointed in the Anti-Glare. On my iPhone 3g I definitely rock the Anti-Glare (Power Support version) and it doesn't hurt the screen that much. The JavoEdge definitely did...so maybe its just a combination of the OLED as opposed to LCD on the iPhone, but I had to stick with Crystal even though it still shows fingerprints and glare.

BTW...I just picked up a pair of Sennheiser IE6s from JR.com to replace my CX300s that I've been using for the past couple years. Unbelievable sound from these things. They are still in the burn-in period so I imagine they will get even better...but from a pure comparison standpoint to the Cx300s...they are a lot cleaner sounding. The bass isn't quite as boomy, but it's still prominent and the mids and highs are a lot warmer and cleaner. I'm not audiophile (i just spend like I'm one), but these are the best buds I have found for under 200 bucks. JR has them for 160 shipped...90 off retail. Hopefully they are real???? I know Senns seem to have a lot of fakes going around...but they sound good, so who cares!

http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/cowon-s9-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

the zagg invisible shield seems the a little cheaper (front only) and its possibly the best screen protector you can get. I think this is the best choice if you live in the US as its 11.95 with free shipping. These things are industrial strenght but i dont want the soft plastic type like the bestskinsever i had for my creative, i prefer the hard plastic kind which are smoother for touch screen. Anyone ordered this yet? is it smooth to use with the fingers?

I'm also seriously considering using it w/o a screen protector since it seems to be virtually scratch resistant.

Today I received this excellent silicone skin/case (http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-COWON-S9-Silicone-Case-Black_W0QQitemZ350162909269QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOthe r_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item350162909269&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14)for my S9 from a Korean eBay seller PLAYERSPLANET (http://stores.shop.ebay.com/PLAYERSPLANET__W0QQ_armrsZ1). Case is marginally cheaper than the one from AZUMALL/eBay, already listed here - I got it for USD 8.99 + shipping.

The color is dark mocca smoke, has some tiny surface lines (like a vinyl record) along the length of the player, especially visible on the back. They contribute to the S9's classy look even in a silicone case. Sort of a brushed metal effect, only on a mocca silicone.

The brand written on the back is "ispeaker".

Got it delivered in exactly one week for USD 5.00 from Seoul Korea to Sweden, very nicely packed in a small packet, and then in a separate bag inside the box.

Fitting is quite good, enough space for the screen to touch, all controls accessible, volume and REW/FF controls nicely covered yet fully functional.

The best thing about this particular silicone case is that is has a lanyard and holes for it! This means you can put your S9 on a neck-type IEM's... I sure like wearing them like that - on a short leash.. :)

I can certainly highly recommend this one! It IS that good..

flautash (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/member.php?u=27756), I',m trying to get the case you got, but I don't think it's in stock anymore, they seem to just have black. I'd really want the same colour as yours! (Dark mocca smoke)

@sacramento:
- try sending a message to the seller, that might work
- the url I have posted links to the "black" case. I honestly do not remember if I ordered the black one and got this one. that might be the case. again, message the seller and ask him directly. the "dark mocca smoke" might be what you get when ordering the black one, ;)
- this one is a kind of sexy one, just slightly revealing the player's details underneath :)

I ordered a Black one and I just got it...

It looks just like yours...It is not really a dark mocca smoke color...More like a charcoal.

For $14.00 it is not half bad...

I wish the play/pause button was covered though, like the one named Ringke from the company named Rearth.

Maybe zCover will come out with one, but it will cost a whole lot more...

Over all though I am happy...Better than the Cowon leather case...

These look nice! I'd like to have a decent case to help protect the thing, but I don't really need clasping or leather or something that makes the device more bulky. I want it to be a pocket friendly as possible.

2 Cowon S9 Cases from JAVOedge. 1st one is $21.95 and the other one is $23.95

Amazon.com: Cowon S9 JAVOedge Classic Leather Flip Case (4GB/8GB/16GB) (Black): Apparel (http://www.amazon.com/Cowon-JAVOedge-Classic-Leather-Black/dp/B001U5U14O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1235976040&sr=1-1)

quoting myself. just received this case today. i actually like this one better than the official cowon case that i was currently using. major plus for me was the belt clip. it has all the openings for the bottom part but none on the top. it doesn't matter cause the top part is soft enough to press and change tracks/volume. and there's a little thingy where i can put a stylus...just got to find one that will fit in it.

i guess now i have to put up the official case for sale or keep it as a backup. i do like the official one cause its like a snap on instead of slipping it in like a pouch and love the red interior...but i really need the clip. i'm female and usually my pants or shorts are on the fitted side so the player will be bulging out of my pocket and will have a hard time sitting. plus i worry about the headphone jack being bent awkwardly.

this is a cheaper option than the noreve case. like half the cost.

Has anyone been able to find a compatible Arm Band for the s9 that they are pleased with? I'm contemplating purchasing an itouch one, but am afraid the audio jack will be in the wrong spot. I'm not too worried about buttons being covered up, as most functions work on the touch screen, and I'd only be using it at the gym.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Does anyone have a Ringke Silicon case for their S9?

Found this website selling Ringke case.

This looks like the best silicon case (http://www.bestfromkorean.com/cowon-s9-silicon-case-by-ringk9.html) made for the S9

I was going to order the Aquablack case ($17.00), but shipping is $15.00 to the USA.

That makes the total $32.00 and it takes 20 business days to get.

Is this case worth it?

I have the one that is being sold on eBay, I really like the Ringke case.

I got to think about it.

Howdy,

I'm a new member and plan to order my S9 16GB very soon.

I am confused on which protective case I should get.
I'd like to pick up either the official S9 black carrying case or the unofficial green silicon case from ebay. The S9 will be my first DAP. I want to give it as much protection as possible. Which case is best for someone who is clumsy like me? [unsure]

Thanks!

$17.00 for the Case and $20.00 for Express shipping...

Regular mail was $17.00 and takes about 20 days...I figured the extra $3.00 was worth the reduced time.

I sent them about 10 emails trying to get a better price on the shipping, but they would not budge on anything.

I agree, though it is the best silicon case out there...The most popular in Korea for sure...

Thanks so much hibell!! I have been looking for a leather case which flips up. This seemed like a good option. But, now with the pictures, I am most probably gonna get them! Does the outer flap have a layer of internal padding, or is it just soft leather?

hibell
04-30-2009, 22:49
hmm...outer flap. i guess it has a little soft padding. not much. i guess i would describe it as very hard cardboard that has small padding on it with the leather stiched over it. =)

oh and internal material is like black felt. and flap is magnetic. also there is no opening on top but easy to press volume/menu/track controls. i do it all the time blindly very easy to control. and disregard on what i said about that thingy on the side for stylus. you wont find a stylus that small nor compatible to use on the s9's touchscreen.

HI!
I was wondering if anyone has found any leather cases for the Cowon s9 that have an open side (either bottom or top)? I would really like to have a case that doesn't have a flip top.
Below is an example of what I've found for the D2 in that style:

you might as well just buy a leather case with a flip top and if you dont like it... go and cut the whole flip top thing off so it looks exactly like your picture... well kinda if you put the key ring in yourself

littlebunnie_
05-10-2009, 13:45
I was thinking of doing that :P I knew someone would point out the obvious solution..

hibell
05-10-2009, 14:36
why don't you try and email javoedge and request a s9 version of that d2 case. since they already make a flip top (which i have and posted in previous page) they might make one if there is a demand for it. if not, the flip section is just soft leather so there's no problem in cutting it. might have to sew it up i guess and soft enough that you can put a hole and grommet it so you can put a ring in it.

i'm happy with mines...dropped it so many times and no dings, cracks, etc. first time my heart stopped, 2nd time was like oh crap not again, 3rd and so on was like check okay continue on. well, i guess i'm just lucky it landed in a way that didn't do any damages.

quick question:

is there a water-proof case and headphones i can use with the S9?
say, i wanna go snorkelling or surfing with the S9?

summer's already here and my S9 is definitely going with me to the Caymans!

gorgi
05-15-2009, 07:15
I don't think so. You could search for a tiny box that you can put your S9 into. But you would have to wear bluetooth headphones, and those might be very expensive because they would have to be water-proof and have a good sq.

Has anyone definitively figured out either (A) cables that work with the S9 (other than the one from Cowon) or (B) cables that physically fit but don't work?

Everything I've read says that this 20-pin connector is common to Korean PMP and cellphones, etc, but other than the iRiver SPINN, no one has been able to confirm (first-hand, ideally) a model of PMP or cellphone that shares this cable.

I tested it with the cable from my wife's Omnia, but it did not fit - the Omnia cable had what I can only describe as an "extra ridge" on the bottom edge of the connector that made it incompatible with the S9

pretty unfortunate all things considered

The cable from the LG Shine does NOT fit the S9. I wanted to order a tip from gomadic (gomadic.com), but they don't currently have a tip for the S9. I worked with them to see if the Shine tip fits, and it does not.

At 400 mA, it should be fine. You'll be able to charge your S9 from a low battery to full in about 4 or so hours.

Hi guys,

I'm intending to get a S9 this coming weekend, would like to get a screen protector to go along with it, but it seems that there are quite a few available here? I've read through the threads and found these:
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/cowon-s9-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

http://www.sgpstore.com/product_info.php/products_id/564?osCsid=f651d19ab0d72595c82a4702b4a96cf5

and also the javo "anti glare", "mirror screen protector", and the "ultra clear screen protector"

I'm basically looking for one that would cover the entire front of the player, and of course does not distort the screen as some have stated that the javo anti glare does. A thicker film is also preferred over the flimsy ones.

Any advice?

Hi gang.

This is a post from the UK, so apologies for the unconverted GBPs.

UK retail prices for S9 accessories seem posited on the belief that those who can afford to buy an S9 can afford whatever is asked for a case or charger.

On eBay UK, the Cowon 'official' case is £27.48p, the Tuff-Luv case, £21.48p. Amazon UK is asking £27 ("official") and £19 ("Tuff Luv".)

But there are high quality cases out there for digital cameras of dimensions that presumably aren't much different to the S9. . . yet at nothing like those prices.

I even purchased a pair of shoes last week, leather uppers, compound soles, made in England, for £34.95, a price which makes the cost of the "official" case seem a joke.

This forum is obviously the S9 owner's best friend, and reading through the posts here has helped me figure out, more or less, what I want. But reconciling those posts with what's actually available to someone in the UK has proved more difficult.

I wondered, therefore, if anyone here could check out this eBay UK seller link:

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Best-of-korea__W0QQ_armrsZ1

where it will be seen that there is something called an "I Time" flip-top case at £12.20p post-free, and a 'leather' side-clip case at £15.25, also post-free.

I don't want a silicone case (which seems to come free with the I Time product) and prefer the look of the side-clip case.

But I can't work out from the comments and pictures on this thread just what this particular case is, or if anyone actually has one -- or, more to the point, if it's the same case as this side-clip product being offered at more than £20, including postage, by this other Korean seller:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Leather-Case-for-COWON-S9-Black-Color_W0QQitemZ280410735077QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOthe r_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item4149c841e5

Can anyone help?

As to the "official" Cowon S9 USB mains charger: a UK retail price of £12.72p??? (With an additional cost for postage, making the total a staggering £15.21p. . .)

My TomTom sat nav didn''t come with a USB mains charger so I purchased a generic model for £2.99p two years ago and it works just fine.

Sadly, I'm no electronics expert, unlike many here, so I wondered if anyone can advise as to whether it would serve equally as well where the S9 is concerned? Its tech spec reads:

INPUT: AC 100-250v, 50/60Hz
OUTPUT: DC5, DV plus/minus 5%
MAXIMUM: 1000mA
MINIMUM: 150mA

Help / advice gratefully received -- many thanks!

Well, my problem over an S9 case is now resolved.

I found an unsued spectacles case in one of our cupboards.

It's nicely made, has a padded interior for protecting the contents, is finished in a pseudo black leather and has a fold-over flap which goes under a retaining band to keep everything secure.

The S9 fits perfectly inside it: because of the nature of this type of case, its shape seems tailored to the S9's "curve".

Cost: nothing at all -- it's just a standard spectacles case.

So much for forking out absurd sums of money for S9 accessories that cost less than a dollar to produce but then hit the punter with a 1,000% mark-up. . . [laugh]

Has anyone tried the full invisible shield case for the S9? Wanna know if it's worth getting.

I have just the screen protector from Zagg and after using it for a few months I am not a big fan of it. The screen protector is a bit too tacky so that when you try to swipe your finger it's not always a smooth swipe. In certain angles the orange peel effect really turns the beautiful screen into a pimply faced screen.

Today I peeled off the invisibleSHIELD to replace it with one I bought from ebay that's about a third of the price and a few times easier to put on. And I'm loving it.

It's a loop and bead rather than a pull chord. It's a bit big for the S9 at 13cmx8cm otherwise I'd have bought one.

Don't know if any posted about this but the LG shine connection I assume would not work. I have an LG shine and the power cord connects into the Shine is square, whereas the S9 has kind of indented bumps. The Korean version of the cord might work, I don't know. Looks like they are definitely the same format, just the shape is different. Whatever you get make sure it has those bumps.

I think it depends on the BlueTooth headphone.

I've bought one for my Samsung mobile phone 2 years before in order to use it as headset for communication and as stereo headphone to listen to music. Well I was a bit disappointed of its music quality, as it has a little bit base noise.

Well connected to my S9 it sounds not worse as connected to my mobile phone or laptop.

So I think it solely depends on your Bluetooth device.
But of course a wired headphone remains much more reliable.

Nope, it doesn't. I wish it did, cos then the S9 might not be so shitty with bluetooth. I've tested my Sony DR-BT50 headset with several other devices, all far superior to the S9.

So I think it solely depends on your Bluetooth device. But of course a wired headphone remains much more reliable.

LG Shine USB Data Cable (http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=LG+Shine+USB+Cable), S. Korean's "standard" USB cables?
As low as <$2 per cable shipped, from sellers on eBay
(needs verification whether this "standard" cable works with the COWON S9)

OK. I bought a cable off ebay from this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-DATA-CABLE-FOR-LG-KE970-Shine-KF300-KF600-Venus_W0QQitemZ250473372406QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_M obilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneBatt eries?hash=item3a51605af6) seller because I lost my cable (I have found it again though...[rolleyes]) so just thought I'd report my findings and maybe have the first post updated.

Basically it doesn't fit. The metal plug is smaller but does start to connect albeit awkwardly and might possibly cause damage if you do it casually. I think it might have actually worked though if it wasn't for the fact that the plastic mold doesn't fit into the S9's recess so you can't push it all the way in. I suspect if you had another different LG Shine cable that had a thinner plastic bit you could push it all the way in and it might work. Mine doesn't. I wouldn't really recommend using this connector anyway because although the insides seem to match, the metal shape is smaller so it might cause damage to the S9 socket because it can bend sideways easily due to the smaller plug surround.

It's a little difficult to explain but I suppose I could take a photo if anyone really needs it. Overall, I'd say "No" for this seller's cable type and "Maybe but be careful" for another brand of LG Shine cable.

I got a few scratches here and there. Finally got a ZAGG invisible shield. Absolutely love it. Doesn't look like there is anything on the screen at all. yeah, "scratch proof" is really a terrible misnomer, and I cringe every time someone uses it to describe the S9 screen. there's literally nothing in nature that is completely scratch proof.

Just bought a great screen protector from ebay, cost me about $8 AUD shipped from south korea, havent tested it's scratch proof capabilities but I wish I'd gotten one before I got a couple of tiny scratches in my screen. :( Worth the price alone for the lack of fingerprints on the screen after I touch it. Came with a little cleaning cloth as well as nice packaging, I'm very impressed considering how little it cost me.

I'm searching for a leather case. However, i heard Noreve had wrong cut outs, and i dont really like the flaps of the official case, so is there any other option?

I had gotten an iTime case, care of eBay some months ago. Opens up differently than the Cowon case. I'm very happy with it.

Just some info for anyone looking for a data/charging lead.

I recently bought one of these from ebay because it looked like it might be suitable.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Black-20-Pin-USB-Charge-Cable-for-Samsung-D808_W0QQitemZ200449336620QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mo bilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneBatte ries?hash=item2eabb6252c

it was worth a punt for a few pounds but unfortuntely i can confirm that they are NOT suitable

Although they look similar there are some vey specific differrences, the Samsung connector is about .5mm smaller across it's width and about .25 mm less in it's thickness (very approximate values as I don't have calipers to measure it ).

Also the angles on the edges of the connector are pitched slightly differently

The biggest difference however is this connector has 20 high density pins on one side only. The opposite side is just the metal shroud. Whereas the S9 connector has two opposing rows of 10 pins each which are also staggered offset from each other.

Once you know this difference it easy to tell them apart by sight even though the outer casings are physically very similar.

Hope this helps someone in their search for this elusive cable.

I don't like having to carry my full cable around and having been unable to find a small substitute I reckon i'm going to end up buying a second "official" cable cut it very short and solder on a micro USB socket to make an adapter i can use it with my retractable USB lead or any standard USB charger.

Do any of you guys know if there is a case with an armband for S9? I've been looking around but it doesn't seem like there is one available. Thanks.
