I was a former D2 owner, and am looking to pick up the O2 as its replacement. Is the O2 screen glass or plastic? Reason I am asking is because if it's glass, there is no need for a screen protector and I am trying to purchase the accessories and the unit in one shot. Thanks for the help!

(If the SQ is identical to my D2, I will be one happy camper!)

The O2 uses a resistive touchscreen (same as the D2) and the screen cover is plastic.

The O2 is not a replacement for the D2...The O2 is closer to the A3 than the D2...More Movie than Audio...

I brought a O2 to replace my D2 and was disappointed and sold the O2.

Me, I am getting a S9 to replace one of my D2's and doing a lot of praying...

IMHO, you should really read all the posts about the O2 before pulling the trigger...:D

couldn't agree more. Be VERY careful before purchasing the o2, a heck of a lot of my video files won't play on the o2 as the support for h.264 and mkv just isn't there yet. It SERIOUSLY lacks the basic things that the d2 has (such as id3 tagging, dpl etc) and my fault for not researching enough before hand. There is some controversy around the very reflective screen rendering daytime viewing pretty awful. However i found the sound to be AMAZING quality for music (better than my d2) but not so hot for video. Like Dalmane98 says, do yer research first and take nothing for granted, i hope future firmware fixes the problems we all seem to complain about.

Oh come on Brucey, always HD / HiRes movies. HOW CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE ON THAT TINY SCREEN. MKV is a CRAPPY FORMAT.

My 700MB XVID Disney movies look crystal clear (with added Jif for cleanliness) and sound like they do on comp (I want EQ for Video). And yes, Audio on the O2 is amazazing, and it does support ID3 tagging but only when playing music (not for explorer view(lol)). Try using any LCD out in the sunlight. Unless it's on Max Brightness or is an OLED, have fun getting bright bright picture.

Only problem I see with it is when it crashses if you do too much shit while playing Music.

I am using an HTC Touch Pro with a 8GB microSD as an all-in-one solution for music and videos alike. Problem is, the screen is 2.8" with 640x480 resolution, and that's a bit small for my tastes. All my video files are mpg, xvid, and although i'd like to view flv files, it's not a dealbreaker for me. I wouldn't expect this player to play the huge 720p HD rips that I have, nor would I want to, simply to conserve space. I can live without gapless playback, and all my music is sorted by folders and filenames anyway, so I could care less about id3 tags or the like. My main concerns are SQ, butter smooth xvid playback, and picture quality. I am still disappointed the S9 doesn't have an SD slot because that would probably be the perfect solution for me.

I'ts not the quality, i just have over 100 movies as mkv files at 300-400mb size (as is commonly used and released nowadays), i just wanted to avoid the conversion process for these thats why i bought the o2 in the first place. Pity it lies about its capabilities.

There was a lot of dissent about .H264 even when the A3 came out... the final word was that the chip isn't capable of lifting the high profile stuff. Although it was advertised and later Cowon pulled the plug.. It was a long running epic issue.
And oops they did it again with the O2.. IMHO (and based on other more informed posters) - h264 HP MKVs won't run ever.

As for the screen glare issue, ditto for the A3 and Q5. You should get an anti-glare screen guard as soon as you buy one of these things. I have this one (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20092%5D)... pretty satisfied.

Not true.....Only where you get your videos from mate.....seems to me the movies you get are compressed as much as possible without losing that much quality.
Seriously speaking the most common configuration for full movies is a 700 MB AVI file cos that just fits on a CD and that has been the configuration for the past 8 years if not longer....

Yeh ok mate i have 700mb axxo releases as well but I tell you mkv and h.264 300-400mb files are here to stay and will become the norm. The days of 700mb films will phase out. Why would you dl a 700mb film when you can get the same film higher quality at lower size, it's just a matter of (perhaps even months) before the 700mb conversions cease to be produced in favour of the mkv 300-400mb files. Anyways that's all besides the ****** point innit, cowon said the o2 could play em and they CANT!

This is the current topic guys:

My main concerns are SQ, butter smooth xvid playback, and picture quality.

Anything else (like whether x.264 is commonly used or not) is off topic.

I would recommend you folks help the OP buy what is best for him/her - not what is best for you.

The O2 is a very good Xvid playing device, the screen is not spectacular (but you can customise it a little) and glare may be an issue if you don't buy an anti-glare screen protector. It is a solid video device though. SQ is very good.

I don't know where you live, but if possible you can always buy it from a store that has a return policy. Buy and try it and if you like keep it or send it back and look else where. As for me I've had the Q5W (sold) and the A3 and now the O2, which is what I use the most.

off topic anyone!? my god.

the screen is plastic but it is very responsive, therefore a protector is a good investment, and shouldnt make the touch features less accessible...but look for one that is a bit dust resistant...or buy some windex
