Hello!
I have the S9 updated with FW 2.06. Very happy with the player, however when I play FLAC files the tag info is nonexistant on the music screen. Just says "Unknown" for the track, album and artist. Only way to fix it is to convert to mp3 and magically the tag info exists.
Any suggestions?
Thanks :D

I assume the same FLAC files play fine on your D2?

All the information is there, right?

I do not have a S9 yet, but will be getting one as soon as the 32GB Model is released...

Yep. All the info is there and they do play fine on my D2. All I do is convert them straight to mp3 without changing anything. Everything remains the same but the S9 now presents the artist, track and album info correctly...

Are you sure there is "No" id3 tag in the flac files?? If there is delete it.

There is id3 tag in the flacs. But if I delete it won't it still display nothing at all when I'm playing them?

The only thing in the Tag Field of the file should be FLAC (FLAC).

If the Tag Field has FLAC (FLAC) ID3v2.3 (ID3v2.3) in it the FLAC file will not play.

That is why I asked before if the same FLAC files played on your D2.

You can use Mp3tag to check the tag Field...

Umm I'm not entirely sure I follow. I use jetshell integrated into my explorer shell to check for tag information and it shows the id3 tag information in the tag fields.. i can insert the information myself under every category for every file or a bunch of files together.. So id3 2.3 doesnt work..... how can i manually set tag information for flac files so they will display on my S9? I see you mention to check the "tag field" with mp3tag. i'll give that a go and tell you what i see there. Thanks.

Ok I see what you mean now. Tag field says FLAC (FLAC)
Is there a way to change this so the S9 will recognize the tag info?

Flacs are supposed to have flac tags...

Maybe it's the S9..because all my cowons show tags correctly this way. The only thing flac tags don't show is album art...but all you need to do is put a cover.jpg in the folder.

Honestly I wouldn't use the Jetaudio software for tagging or transferring. Use mp3tag for tagging and drag and drop in windows explorer for transferring.

Oh and don't edit the files inside the S9. Delete the files on the S9 and tag on your PC. Then transfer the files to the S9.

Btw..this has nothing to do with tags but are you converting mp3's to flac? Just checking...:0

Yeah looks like it's something with the S9. Since all my flacs have flac tags... Hope they'll address this soon. By the way just as a correction, flacs can indeed display album art. I tried it earlier. Actually I had no idea how to get my S9 to show album art so I manually added an album photo to every flac album I had and it worked great. But are you saying that it's enough that I have a cover.jpg in the album's folder and that will do the trick? The S9 will show the photo as album art without having to manually add a photo to the files themselves? That would save me a lot of trouble.

Well all the Cowons I have or had they need a cover.jpg in the folder to display flac tag album art. Yes you can embed them in the flac tag but they won't show on the player as album art. But they will in media players and taggers.

Now I don't have the S9 so maybe it is able to read flac tag album art.

Are you sure you don't have a cover.jpg in the folder?? Because I'll be getting the S9 when the 32gb comes out and that would be something if you didn't need a cover.jpg. Do me a favor make sure you look in the folder and see if there is a cover.jpg if there is delete it and tell me if it is true...:)

Checked! No cover.jpg. no image files at all. displays cover art! :D
However I am using this cover.jpg system from now on. it's much easier for me. cheers.

This works on my D2 and O2 for FLAC files. If you have a bunch of FLAC files in the same folder, you can put a .JPG for each one in the folder, and just name each one with the same name as the file. So if you have song1.FLAC and song2.FLAC, put song1.JPG and song2.JPG in there, and the cover art will appear for both of them [yes]

Yes keal we know that album art will show with a jpg in the folder but dannyjg is saying he has flac album art showing with "no" jpg in the folder.
