Hopefully someone from Cowon will read this.
Here are a few things I wish they would add in a firmware update:
An option in the system settings to change the colour of the text in all of the menus/above the icons.
I tried changing backgrounds but since the text for everything is a light gray you can never read anything.
An option to switch to 12h clock.
This one is only kind of a annoyance, when your playing a video and you hit the <-- arrow the only wait to make the file menu disappear is to hit the <-- arrow 2 more times and then touch the screen. It would be kind of handy if there was a button in the task bar to make the menu disappear for videos. (This one is only really a very mild annoyance)

I believe that if you tap on the (green?) movie icon in the bottom bar you get your multitasking options popup and if you tap on the movie icon on that popup you should go back to the video...
It would be my perfect player if it supported playlists....But it's probably wishful thinking that it'll get supported anytime soon.

Yeah, I'd like that as well
I might suggest, rather than hoping tht someone from Cowon will read this, contacting Cowon directly with your concerns.

As there is no ID3 file browsing, at least the options to move/copy files to a folder, to rename files, to create new folders and naming them through a popping keyboard should be possible...

How does one go about badgering cowon? I remember asking this very same question a few weeks ago on some other thread.......
I'd suggest starting with the links at the top of every page on this board.

No No No, u've missed my point. Of course I could send cowon mail and contact their support but I was figuring someone here would have a more direct and fruitful way of contacting them about issues.

yeah I'm very familiar with this mini-site since I had to return my O2 for repairs and they have failed to ship it back...thanks for trying though....
Here's my not so polite list: http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37194 (Yes, I will get this list to Cowon.)

a few wishes from me so far:
-Voice recording at 192 kbps needs to not skip and hiss.
-More fun programs to keep us occupied while others are learning the SDK Like maybe... A graphics calculator alongside the scientific. That would make my o2 the best calculator ever! I already use the scientific one so much when im not graphing on my pre calc homework
-My Kingston SD card doesn't work with my O2 and im thinking some sort of update could fix that
-Possibly faster bootup (my rio karma Harddrive based player boots faster at this point)
-Less distortion (theres apparently distortion at volume 50 which i don't use so its no big deal)
-More mach3 bass! I want it to go as high as jet audio does on my computer and without distortion.
-LCD off when usb connected. Just to be more energy efficient and maybe a little faster charge time via usb, they need to turn the lcd off after like 30 seconds of being connected. I hooked it up when i got it and put all the songs on it and that was the first thing i noticed.
-Faster video load time. I still think they can do better. This is , after all, a flash based player.
-More responsive text scroll. I don't really like the scrolling right now. It makes me feel like im surfing the web on my nintendo ds (which is really really bad)
-Volume button on hold needs to be able to switch tracks rather than just control them
-(just a fantasy) Some visualizations to choose from similar to Jet audio.
Sadly, I could probably come up with more things, but i'm sure in the long run, cowon will eventually asess these problems and fix them. For those who think the D2 is better just because of the interface, they should realize that the D2 has been out for much longer than the o2 and over time has been perfected by numerous updates. The o2 is potentially better than the d2, we just need to give it time.
Search function for finding music like in winamp.

On the update 1.14(Beta), it does switch track when listening to music. To control the music, you hold the volume button. To skip, you just press and release quickly the volume button. (these are instructions when the O2 is on "hold".)

An easier way to navigate an expanded picture in the picture viewer. Right now I'm having to tap 3-4 times to make my way through a photograph, instead of being able to drag the photograph to where I want it.

ID3 tag browsing
PriyanPhoenix

ID3 tag organisation is definitely #1 on the list, but it's a big job (interface-wise) so realistically I don't expect to see it for a while.
The other big one is sound enhancements for video playback (I expect to be able to apply most if not all of the enhancements applied to music).
Secondary issues:
-proper 720p plackback (it stutters enough to be unusable for me)
-music visualisations/large album art display (yes, often the screen will be off, but if I've paid for this lovely large screen shouldn't I be allowed to use it if I'm bored?)
-release the official leather case in the UK
-stop minor tweaks to the apps and work on some of the above! :P

once some of the really bad stuff is adressed, what every nerd wants.
INTARWEBS. jk
Larger fonts, Larger icons, finger scrolling, 12h clock, removable "delete file" option (I've deleted folders by accident trying to click "play folder". This screen is huge, they should utilize it properly.

Nice!
And a longer recent file listing. Because I noticed that my older files are being deleted from the recent files folder as if there was a limit to the listing...
-customizable GUI like they have in the S9 or like how iRiver clix2
-different font colors so dark backgrounds can be used.
-maybe a GUI overhaul
-release some new stuff for the User programs
-fit more icons into the main menu or try to fit all the icons into the main menu

The charging issue has been taken care of. I think Keal said that all you have to do is slide the hold button up, and it just charges with no lcd. The charging indicator will be on, lcd off.
I sent this to Cowon America today. Ill let you know what they respond with. It might be pointless, but I figure ill keep sending it until they fix it.
Cowon,
I just wanted to tell you guys that I really like my Cowon o2. I think it has a great screen, and the hardware on it is fantastic. The SQ is second to none, and the 10 band eq is a blessing. With that said, I was wanting to get some info on a couple of concerns I have with it.
1. The font color throughout the o2 is an off colored blue, why is there no way to change that?
2. Why is there no ID3 tag browsing? You use id3 for displaying song info, just cant use it to browse? The s9 does, same with d2.
3. 24 hour clock? small issue, but one nonetheless. No option for 12 hr?
4. No true audio out? Why can you do video out, but no audio line out. You have to use a 3.5mm adapter to rca, and that is not true audio. The sound is weak from that.
5. No EQ for video? This is primarily a video player, 4.3" of beauty. At least make it sound good.
6. Do what it says it can do, not what it might do in a year. HD playback, h.264.
7. Playlist support, a must. Every player has that, even a $30 off brand from wal mart.
8. Scrolling through folders in music a pain. Why cant you implement swipe motion?(i.e. flick up or down and the folders scroll quickly automatically)
I truly do love my o2, but I love it for what it is capable of, not what it is know. There are many really nice features on it(recently played is great). I just want you guys to continue to work on the o2 and make it what it could be. Thanks.
Also, if any of these problems are in the process of getting fixed, please let me know.

very good idea...keep us updated please.....try the live chat as well.....
I was wondering...the english O2 community may be behind matters....does anyone know what the korean O2 community is doing both in terms of appeals for fixes and attempts to crack/improve the O2 via sdk or other means?

you can just press and hold to scroll within the zoomed-in picture. It is a multi directional scroll as well with at least 16 directions.....
Received this back from Cowon:
Kyle,
I want to thank you for your support and concerns. Your comments are valuable to us and they will get forwarded over to the development team in Korea.

Great letter! But it is funny to see that you were so calm in the beginning of the letter, then from point 6, you started to get angrier and angrier (and turning green and big and smashing on the letters on the keyboard) and finally calmed down after point 8 ... Don't worry, being an owner of the O2, I understand your anger...
haha, i guess after listing a couple of the issues, i got tired of hitting all the keys:D
forgot to add gapless!!![blush]
well what i would like to see is more games behing made coming with the firmware upgraed [i dunno... maybe minesweeper... or some other cool things], more file support [pdf,doc,etc...] less system crashing and faster bootup...
flash support and java[j2me] would really be a big step up for the player...
btw the hebrew subtitles are written backwards when its on the 'truetype' font, while its the only one that you can change its color and size..
pdf would be really nice. no more converting ebooks
yeah its really useful.. and its pretty simple like watching photos i guess there is no language\ascii\unicode problem, i sent the mail on the support section too... hope they'll start moving thing with this pmp and make it as good as it could be

you can actually change the other presets (pop, vocal, the other useless ones) to what you want and keep them that way. If you want the original setting back, you could always do a restore defaults.

Nice, I did not know that. You just cant rename them though right.
Correct. The preexisting names are uneditable.

nahh you can't rename them.. I kind of relate them by how close they are to the default.. like i use my main custom for my good headphones, the modified rock setting for my car, and the metal one for my crappy ones (Sadly i use the stocks to work out) headphones.. As for my crappy headphones.. I'm looking into the famous pk3s but i have to see how long the stock pair lasts workout-wise first in case they don't last that long then i'd just stick with cheaper ones for working out.

A way to select which file types get saved to the recent files folder would be nice. I always end up with a bunch of songs cluttering it up.

You can change the view of the recent files list with the <[]> icon in the bottom bar (video/audio/text/all).
I noticed it doesn't show recent pictures....or does it? All I see are the music, videos and text files.
No, pics aren't stored in the recent files list.
