View Full Version : iAudio X5L or iAudio 7?
Hey everyone,
I can buy either a 2nd hand 30gb iAudio X5L, or a new 16gb iAudio 7, at about the same price.
I'm afraid of getting the X5L because it is hard-disk based, and it's 2nd hand. I'm not sure what's the lifetime of such a device. On the other hand, it has almost twice the capacity.
The i7 is smaller but it's flash-based, so I understood it has a longer lifetime. also, it's new so probably no problems with that.
I'd like to use Rockbox, and I've read that i7 support is on it's way.
I'm using Linux, but I don't think any of the devices should be a problem.
What other things should I consider? is there any difference in the sound quality? the battery time?
Thanks a lot!
Yo'av.

I would wait for rockbox to get fully i7 support, it may take a long time. Also consider getting/waiting for an S9 and using that as 1st hand XD
As for 2nd hand, I had my X5 (only mp3 player) for about 3.5 years now and its still running great though its old school tech now, but still the best. So dont need to worry about life spam of hdd vs flash cause when it does crap out theres something far better then.
What do you mean "theres something far better then"?
Is there any way to fix a broken hdd? I guess I won't have no warranty for my X5L...
S9 is probably out of budget... [rolleyes]
Nothing bad to say about the X5? I think I'll get that one...[unsure]

"theres something far better then" - I mean new technology comes out every month and by the time you start getting problems something new will be out that makes you go - wow I’m going to get that now!! (S9!?!?). So I wouldn’t worry about little things such as HDD failing/lifespan. Then again I never had to rma/break down parts (Knock on wood). I never used a warranty and to fix a broken HDD drive - RMA or buy a new one, so cheap these days as the next gen is SSD's.
I really love the X5 but its leaving me wanting more since I see all my friends with their new touches/screens. The X5 has already been rockbox therefore you already have everything almost bug-less and there’s a lot of custom content for the X5 already (themes/builds).

i7 just isn't an x5.
not the same punch, not the same impact, not the same emotion.
x5>>i7. yes i have both.
only 1 reason to get an i7...portability.
the battery in the 07 doesn't have the same juice as the x5 does. wasn't impressed.
