View Full Version : Dummy SD Card & Battery
This sounds like a dumb question, but it has made me paranoid nevertheless...
Will using the dummy sd card drain the D2's battery? Will the D2 try to keep "reading" the card when it repeatedly fails to detect it?
I like to keep the dummy in to protect against lint getting into the slot, but I'm kind of afraid that battery life will be compromised.

Hehe, that's funny [laugh] (I mean this in a friendly way)
No, the dummy SD card is just a bit of plastic, only actually using a real SD card will cause a loss in battery life
Thanks for the quick reply! Now I can enjoy my D2 100% (no more paranoia in the back of my head) [thumbsup]

So carrying around an empty SD will drain the battery??
Doesn't the D2 scan for new files once? that should tell it there is no need to look on the SD card?

Have someone already tested this ?
Just bought a Transcend 16GB card (for future use), otherwise I leave my card at home as long I don't nessecerily need it.

Well guys it is as simple as this:
Plastic doesn't conduct electricity, metals do. When electricity goes through a surface there is some loss of power doing that (It usually is minimal, and that is also applied to the length of the headphone's wire) However that loss is so little that a very long cable would be needed.
In the case of the empty SD there IS a loss of electricity as the metal from the SD is in touch with the card reader. When I say there IS I say it assuming that there is not a switch that disables the SD card reader once the player started and didn't detect an external drive.
In conclusion, don't worry about the dummy draining battery... if that were the case i would be very worried if I had to pick up a cable conducting electricity with plastic gloves... [cursing]:)
