Well it was just yesterday when I received my pretty looking Cowon D2, I've been waiting for it for months and its my Bday present XD.

So after the unboxing i turned it on, everything was fine. However when i got up to uploading 3 songs from my iMac to my Cowon (as a tester), when i switched it back on , it froze completely when i was trying to access music from the player!. I had to either reset it or hold the start button for 10 sec. This happened every time i opened the Cowon after resetting it =(.

Did anyone have that kind of trouble on their FIRST day of owning a cowon?

Three idiotic steps i took after that
- I updated the firmware from 2.51 - 2.54 (worked at first in accessing music but then froze AGAIN)

- Updated the firmware again to 3.52?? i think ( .....likewise.....)

-went to see suggestions Updated to 2.2 (TA DA TA DA BRICK FOR ME!)

- obviously Tcctool doesnt work for Mac so i headed for my Bros XP comp

Followed the instructions from this thread http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17854 but faced a major problem in the middle where you had to navigate then type tcctool -d cowond2 d2N.bin, i had the command prompt window open but didnt work.

Sorry if you find this all typical, but i suspect my D2 is faulty by nature
So are there any suggestions on what i should do? return and get the a new d2? Or return it and get another brand?

Also itll be awesome if someone could reply about the tcctool thing, i typed in C:\Documents and Settings\User>Tcctool -d Cowond2 d2N.bin

Is that stupid? i apologize that im so technologically inept

Well thats all but please if there are any suggestions on how do recover it etc etc, please dont hesitate to reply, even if its regarding my lack of computer skiils =D

And if you found my tcctool problem confusing ill be willing to explain it more in detail

Thanks ._.

If you have an 8GB D2 the lowest firmware you can use is X.51. Anything lower and it will BRICK your D2. IMHO, FW 2.51 is the best...

Using Tcctool you have to navigate to the folder you created to extract (Unzip) Tcctool to.

To simplify things, create a folder named Tcctool in the root of of your primary hard drive. Normally C:\.

When you open a command prompt on an XP machine it normally opens to C:\Documents and Settings\User>. The User being the account that was used to log on to the computer.

So if your example was correct (C:\Documents and Settings\User>), you would just type the following:

CD ..\ and press enter (do this twice).

You should now get a prompt that looks like this:

C:\>

Then type "CD Tcctool" without the quotes and press Enter. You should get the following:

C:\Tcctool>

Now all you have to do is type "tcctool -d cowond2 d2N.bin" without the quotes. The command should look like this:

C:\Tcctool>tcctool -d cowond2 d2N.bin and press enter.

Hopefully things will now work. I am working on a post for navigating in the Command Prompt Window.

You need to make sure the d2N.bin file from folder 0 is in the folder named Tcctool.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Dalmane! although i have not yet got time to follow the instructions

i have something to ask

ok

i have a 4gb cowon all brand new

i downgraded it to 2.2 firmware (bad move)

The 2.2 firmware doesnt have folder 0 , 1, 2

So do i just add the d2N.bin file of the 2.2 firmware into tcctool? or could i copy the d2n.bin file of , letsay, 2.51 firmware into tcctool.

Sorry if thats a completely inane question but im am naturally bad with technology

Thanks

The short answer is no.

If you are bad with technology, the easiest thing for you to do, is just use Tcctool to load FW 2.51.

IMHO, it is the most stable 2.xx FW released and the database is very stable. You can add and delete files without having to worry if it will keep working.

FW 2.54 has a very buggy database. You can spend a lot time reformatting your SDHC card and reloading files.

If you have problems, just PM me and I will try to help you.
