I've been thinking about getting the A3, primiairly for the VOB playing capability, however I still had a few questions...

If I were to direct copy a video_ts folder to the player, could I play the dvd menus by opening the .ifo files or something? or does the A3 only
allow you to select .vob files specifically and therefore the typical 3 to 4 1GB files in my video_ts folder are all the options I can open and play
(ie no menu access)?

If I have to open the .vob files in my video_ts folder directly, can I still seek to chapter points? Is there an ability to resume playing where I
left off a .vob file? Anotherwards if I turn off the a3 and turn on later, can I quickly get to a chapter because it recognizes them, or is there
another way to resume playing the vob? I wouldn't want to get half way through a .vob and be forced to start from the beginning again next time.

Thanks.

Firstly, the A3 can only play unencrypted VOB files. Not INFO files or menus.

Also, when you create the VOB it is best to keep it as a single VOB file under 2GB in size. The A3 will play VOB files in order in a directory, but there will be a pause between loading the files which isn't too bad; but if you can create a single VOB file < 2GB this will be better. It cannot play files > 2GB due to a filesystem limitation.

Other than that the A3 handles VOB files excellently. Even with 5.1 DD surround sound :)

Thanks for the reply Nodnol.

All my dvds are authored with standard dvd authoring software which will create the 1GB splits. Good that I could play the video_ts directory and have it play them in order I guess since there is no menu support. I'm still curious if there is a way to seek into a location in the middle of a vob easily though?

Sorry, I meant to mention that in my last reply.

This is simple - go to Recent Files and click on the file you want to play - it will start where you left off watching it.

Great, thanks again. Sounds like this will work well enough as a replacement for my old hefty portable dvd player, plus I like all the other audio features too.
