I have flipped through the rest of the threads, and from what i have picked up.

Screen Size: Does not matter, but battery takes priority. Very scratch resistant.
Battery: 40hr life, swappable, Lithium-Polymer
Navigation: joystick?
Subpack: Unnecessary
Audio jack position: Top/Side
Wireless: Unnecessary
Hump: Integrated thickness
Hard Drive: 60gb minimum. 120gb ideal to compete with ipod classic

I think i'm going to do some design sketches for to help get the ball rolling. I'm tired of waiting.

Can anybody give me dimensions for the current hard drive, battery and screen?
And current dimensions of the D2 and i7 components? I'm thinking it would help if they could reuse components to help keep costs down.

thank you all, i hope something good will come of my efforts

You mean designing electronic schematics? That'd be great. I think you probably can fond many details on the RockBox site. Can you also tell me how difficult it would be to have dedicated line-out (i.e. bypassing the amp) and digital out (i.e. bypassing both DAC & amp)? That's what I'd really like to see included. I think radio, mic are kind of standard anyway, but you might want to include to your list too.

hell no. not electronically.
but spacing layouts and such, ergonomics and usability.

plus, an open letter to cowon would look so much better with something in CAD.

I'd hope by this point that they would already have fully functional prototypes. I'm sure they are cooking something up by now. I'm not buying any high capacity players until it comes out.

And it had better have a line out, that's mandatory for my next player. If it doesn't have a line out, I'm buying an ipod classic. I'm so sick of new players not having a dedicated line out. The only one is the ipod.

I agree Punnisher about the line out...I just doubt it would have one....But man if there is one thing those horrible ipods have is line out....that's the one thing they have over on us....It would be so awesome for Cowon to put a true line out on there next player....it is beyond me why so many dap makers don't do it...I mean how much more could it cost.
I truly wish Cowon had a more competitive attitude when making there daps...it just seems like there lolygagging around...like the main guy in charge is off doing his own thing, not caring what happens to his business...kinda like he is lazy or something, just getting by because he knows his daps are good and have a good name, not really caring much about going forward and blowing other's away.
I'd be willing to pay more for one if they did. As it stands now they make the best daps there is....but putting a line out would just put them over the top.

It's like other companies, including Microsoft, don't really care to compete with the ipods basic features. I'd have a zune 80 in my hand right now if it had a line out, but shockingly it doesn't even have that.

I thought you could get an adaptor for the X5 with line out, replacing the subpack. Qables.com? Could be directly plugged to an amp... Quality stuff and expensive... but its a great solution...

That and the totally crappy software that is required to sync with the zune. The player itself seems pretty awesome (wish the resolution of the screen was a little better though) but it is amazing what crappy sofware can do to good hardware.

cowon is mad for not producing something (x7) which is guaranteed sales after the legendar x5 ... the must be stupid .. or sitting on some amazing designs and waiting for component priices to fall .. SSDs is my reckoning.
