View Full Version : X5's USB-OTG works with PSP. max file size transfer?

Just got myself a PSP today, confirmed you can xfer files to/from it with the X5's USB Host feature.

Curious, does anyone know what the limit of file size is, for transfers over USB Host? PSP only has a 32mb card and it's aleady half full of game data so I can't do much testing right now.

I'm wondering if all I could get a 512mb card, and copy movies (300-350mb) from the X5 to the PSP... use it like the PSP's own exteranal hard drive, in other words.

well i managed to copy a 117mb file from my camera to the X5...

impressive!

i guessing there won't be any problem sending large files to other MSC devices like the PSP. just bought a 1gb memory stick, will test the PSP and the X5 more when it arrives...

I was actually going to get an X5 because of this. I could store my movies on the X5 and transfer them to the 512 stick and view them on the PSP screen rather on the X5. The X5 is a much better audio player than the PSP and had way more features than an Ipod or any other MP3 device around. Also a 2 GB Memory stick costs about $350 and seeing the price of the X5 it was pretty obvious which one would give me more bang for my buck since the X5 gives me 20 GB and costs $300

I had some problems with transferring a 300mb file to PSP to a Sandisk 512mb card. It would say write failure. I tried again to a 1gb Sony high speed card and it went fine. I can't remember how long it took but it wasn't too bad.

I plan to store video on my X5L and then "freshen up" my PSP when I want to see something different.

Does it mean the X5 doesn't work well with Sandisk's? Does the sandisk memory stick say it's high speed?

I heard of the same issue about the error when transfering the file which discourages from getting the PSP. So if the sandisk is the cause of the problem. Then I might consider to buy PSP again and use it with Sony high speed.

BTW is the Sony's high speed memory stick duo more expensive than Sandisk? and how much?

I don't know if it is Sandisk or the size of the memory stick and the size of the file. I have read a thread here somewhere that was talking about problems of the X5 reading remaining memory size of PSP memory sticks. Maybe there is bug with the OTG firmware. With the 1 G stick I had plenty of room.

I will have to check this out further and will re post when I get around to it.

I was lucky enough to find the 1G Sony high speed at Best Buy for about $130 on sale.

So the PSP will play back video files that are converted to play on the X5? IF so that is cool.

but you can a video to play it on psp and store it on the X5.

darkninja67 if you mean that the file converted for the x5 will play on psp im sure it will but not the other way around.

also if the transfer for a 300mb file (about the size of a full movie for the psp) takes longer then 5 mins to transer then wouldnt it be too much work to tranfer a 300 mb file off the psp and then back again to the psp?

i find it a good idea but its to bad its not usb 2.0 full speed transfering

I store PSP videos on my X5 and then transfer them to PSP when I want to watch a new movie. I haven't tried to put an X5 movie on the PSP, but I will try it and let you know when I get around to it.

Hi RaddMann, that was me :). The problem I was encountering was that the X5 wasn't reading the size/available space on my memory stick properly, even after a clean format. I have a 512MB Sandisk Pro Duo. After formatting, the x5 reads 255MB available, which is obviously wrong, it should be 468MB.

RaddMann, I was wondering if you can do me a favor. Would you please do a clean format of your 1GB stick using your PSP, and then connecting to the x5 and checking the available space using your x5? I have a funny feeling it will say around 500MB free.

If so this is a potential bug/issue--especially if you want to move files larger than 500MB (which is possible if you have high-quality feature length films that you watch on your PSP). The x5 won't allow the transfer :(.
