Hello,
I am wondering what the limits are of the RAW photo support on the Cowon A3.
The specs say:
JPG - Max 15MPOther - Max 5MPRAW - Unlimited
I have an Canon 30D which has 8.2 megapixel .CR2 RAW files up to 10 megabyte.
-> Can I view these RAW files on the picture viewer of the Cowon A3?
-> Does the USB host work in combination with the Canon 30D?
Please let me know, because I am thinking about buying the A3.
I connected my Canon 30D via the USB host cable but
nothing happens....
I took the CF card out and stuck it in my computer,
moved about 10 RAW photos to the PHOTO directory of
the A3 and it reads then fine. I use the joy stick to go
next, next next and the photo's load pretty quick ( 1/2
second a pop I guess). These are 8meg RAW files.
Clicking the joy stick allows you to zoom in. You get
2 clicks ( close and closer ) not sure what the magnification
factor is, then it goes back to original. Stick left, right, up
and down move it around while zoomed ( not a smooth
progessive zoom, mechanical).
Joemt...
So if the A3 can't read direct from one of the most popular prosumer cameras around, what's the point of this functionality? Maybe it reads from selected Korean (Samsung, LG) makes then? Seems like another let down from Cowon?

there's a list of supported cameras and usb connections you can look up
expecting it to support every single model is pretty extreme

Which is what Windows does.
Which is also what MacOSX does.
The Canon 30D is a mainsteam prosumer camera. Its the sort of camera
you want unlimited RAW capability for. You don't need that sort of capability
for cheap $100 5megapixel cameras which don't even output RAW but
compressed JPEG.

well it's not windows or macosx on the a3, it's modified linux, and it's not the 4gb or whatever windows takes up either.
i mean come on
I do like the otg usb host !
Very useful when you want to download someone's library from a mp3 player or get what's on your key...
I haven't tried a camera yet , i'm surprised it doesn't work with any device...maybe it just doesn't read RAW ?
I tried connecting to my old Creative Zen Vision. The CZV actually charges from the A3 but I can't browse the CZV's harddrive from the A3. My CVZ at least is able to accept CF
cards which means I can transfer files from camera to CZV and then to laptop and then to my A3. Seems a bit redundant though....

You can use a card reader in the usb host device spot and just read your card...
