According to the compatibility list and the review the X5 cannot download photos directly from Canon cameras. Is there any hope of getting this fixed in a new firmware release in the future?

If it's possible for Canon cameras to work with the X5 I think they'll definately include it in a future firmware because Canon is quite popular.

I thought the reason Canon cameras do not work with the x5 is because they are not UMS? Correct me if I am wrong.. ^_^

Yes there is definitely hope for canon USB-OTG compatibility in a future firmware release. No don't ask when because no one knows.

I thought Canon camera's where UMS compliant. My ixus 400 certainly works fine without any special software application and appears as a drag & drop enternal storage device on my PC. However Windows XP is very good at automatically installing drivers and quite possibly masking this apparent flaw. austinv who is in contact Cowon said that Canon camera's do actually require a driver, which obviously the X5 currently cannot talk to. With the help from Canon however, Cowon will be able to sort out these software issues and fix the problem in a firmware update. We just don't know when...

Obviously Cowon can include the driver with the next firmware upgrade so you Canon owners are in luck.. I own a Canon camera but it is so old its crazy, lol.. Its a completely manual camera.. =\

I think newer Canons might be UMS, but I know that mine isn't. Certainly, there are some models that are UMS, and I would expect that those would already work.

Anything that is UMS should work in theory..
