View Full Version : Any themes for the DMB-models?
Hello everybody,
recently I bought the Cowon D2 8GB in Korea. "Unfortunately" they offer this model only with DMB, so I had to take the DMB model.
I have been lookin through all the themes and I could not find a single theme for the DMB models[sad]. Of course I could replace the TGAs using D2toTGA and TGAtoD2 if the corresponding DMB buttons would be included...
Does anybody know where to find themes for the DMB models?

Sorry I don't know where you can find it !
I never seen a theme made for a 1.xx firmware.
Certainly on a Koréan forum, but not easy to find and read I think!
Of course you could replace the TGAs using D2toTGA and TGAtoD2 if the corresponding DMB buttons would be included...
As a theme creator, I will not make my themes for 1.xx fw .
But why not for fonts ? It will not take too time !
Give me a link to download the last 1.xx fw, and I'll do that for you.
For themes, it is up to you to work on it.
With use, it take 15 to 20 minutes to translate a theme, folow the link in my signature:

DMB is different to DAB furr mate... but no harm in trying as the FW may be very similar in terms of icons used... that's only a possibility though, I've never seen or used the DMB model so I don't know what it's FW is like.
yeah just noticed but umm... what is the difference? yes i know what DMB is. it's TV but DAB? isn't it like just Radio or something?
DMB is digital TV, DAB is digital radio.

Basically yes, DMB is digital tv signals, like DAB is digital radio signals.. but.. their are quite a handful of different forms of DMB, with different acronyms too :P ...
The DMB model uses a different component to the DAB model to receive signals, not that that should effect the theme mind you... however there maybe be more/less icons in one of the firmwares... I really couldn't tell you unless someone was to test them...
what's the difference in DAB vs. regular Radio?
D: I assume it is different hardware yes. I mean, it´s the most logic explanation.
F: I don´t know exactly, but better reception and way better quality.

Laropo yep, you're correct.
FURR, it's too much to explain in this thread and i'm not a fan of DAB so my bias would be too much.. check wikipedia or google to learn more about FM radio and DAB radio.
Thanks for your answers. Of course I would replace the icons by myself. The only thing I would need is the corresponding DMB button, just a little TV symbol.
I also searched the Korean forum at the cowon page, but I could only find flash skins for the music player :-(.
So if anybody has a link to a Korean theme I would be very grateful.
Maybe I can ask the theme creator of my favorite theme to create one more icon.

To Pikki:
The Tv icon is already create in FRiPhone theme,
it is not used by the D2 with fw 2.xx or fw 3.xx
but if you use D2toTga, you will see a TV icon, without colors (with color is for setting screen)
use it to make a complet theme for a fw 1.xx !
Give me a link to download your firmware.
Send me a private message if you did not understand all to do to convert a theme.
You should be able to put the latest 4.54 firmware on your DMB model to activate DAB. I have a DAB model and have tried the same in reverse to activate DMB. It worked just fine.
I am now back here and have put the DAB firmware back on my D2.
I can't help with themes though. I have been trying desperately to modify the Nightfall theme to work with my D2 but I can't get the TGAtoD2 program to insert some of my modified buttons. I get an error on 17 of the files and I have no idea why. [blush]
Finally figured it out. [thumbsup]
I now have my own 4.54 version of the Nightfall theme. The problem was with the icons. They were a different size. Once I made them the same as the original 4.54 firmware it worked no problem. [toungue]
The only 'iffy' bit is my DAB icon. It isn't as good as the others as I made it myself and I'm no graphic artist. [cry]
could you post ur theme for 4.54 because ive been trying desperately to make a theme but cant for the life of me :(

I finished it last night at around midnight and went to bed as was up at 6am for work. [sad] I've had a quick fiddle with it tonight and it seems to be OK.
It took me ages to figure it out. Credit to the guys who made the tools and original themes it is taken from. It's not perfect and I don't think I'll be doing any more! What a time consuming task! [biggrin]

I think I found a very short way to create a lot of themes for a D2-DMB !
- 1: download the 1.54 fw (http://download.cowon.com/data/C08/D2_1.54.zip) and upgrade your D2 with it if you have not done it already.
- 2: Download any theme made for a 3.53 or 3.53b firmware.
(Near all Cassini's themes, 2 themes from Qvazar, Obsidian from Madman or Lukekeeee's iClassic)
- 3 : Use "D2toTGA.exe" to extract pictures from the downloaded theme.
- 4 : Erase the "D2N_rs.bin" from the theme you have downloaded.
- 5 : Copy the 1.54 fw's "D2_rs.bin" from "folder 2", in your downloaded theme folder.
- 6 : Rename it "D2N_rs.bin"
- 7 : Execute "TGAtoD2.exe"
- 8 : Rename "D2N_rs.bin" in "D2_rs.bin"
And that's it !
Firmwares 1.54 and 3.53(b) have exactly the same numbers of picures in the same order.
If "D2toTGA.exe" & "TGAtoD2.exe" works correctly on the 1.54 fw, now you have the easier fw to translate themes !
Of course I can't test it on my No-DMB-D2, but I translated the Fishfutter's iTouch theme for 1.54 fw (http://s3.archive-host.com/membres/up/1312293560/DenCowon/Fisshfutter_iTouch_154-v110.rar),
in adding pictures missing for DMB, and an Arial bold pt 12 with accents font for fw 1.54.

Do not be afraid to ask the TV icon picture to creators, in exchange, you'll give to them another fw version of their theme.

thank you very much for the information about 3.5x and 1.5x having the same pictures and numbers. I already changed some icons with D2toTGA.exe & TGAtoD2.exe before, so this should not be a problem. Next week will be three days of national holidays in Korea, so I should have some time to try this.
Your modified iTouch theme seems to work perfect so far [thumbsup].
So I will ask a few creators to supply one additional TV icon and then be almost totally happy with my D2.
The only thing left for me to find out is how to create additional playlists besides the dynamic playlist. So far I could not find a way to do this when the player does not support MTP.

But 3.53 & 3.53b and 1.54 have same pictures and numbers.
It is not as easy with others 3.5 fw, they are differents !
I did not download others 1.5x firmwares than 1.54.
The only thing left for me to find out is how to create additional playlists besides the dynamic playlist. So far I could not find a way to do this when the player does not support MTP.
1.xx firmwares are the most unknowed on this forum.
But I do not think that come from the theme !
With an incomplete theme some pictures stays like in original theme, but no fonctions or utilities disapear.
Had you a DPL fonction, before upgrade the theme ?
Had you a MTP fonction, before upgrade the theme ?
I hope that is only for reasons already explained !
Please try it with a 1.54 fw, before having a definitive judgement.
Perhaps d2totga and tgatod2 works no perfectly with "D2_rs.bin" firmwares.
I am waiting from you more informations on it.

Please, be shure my method is working fine on 1.54 fw, before !
Make 1 or to pictures to make a 100 % shure theme could be more interesting for them.
And if it work fine whith any bug, try to find all koreans users on iAudiophile, certainly lot of them are speaking korean and english.
If you give to them a way to translate easily all themes I said,
I think they'll give you a lot of interesting informations and apply in back.

Perhaps d2totga and tgatod2 works no perfectly with "D2_rs.bin" firmwares.
I ask the same question to MaxSt (if I have all understand, he is de D2toTga, and TgatoD2 creator).
He is making new versions of thoses softs espiacally for you.
(And others users of 1.xx fw)
So wait and see, he uptaded one soft on two, in a few hours !
I think is now urgent to wait, to have betters themes as possible, without any troubles with instal of them.
Let do experts (I am talking about MaxSt, and the " (non flash) D2 Theme Discussion - The Mega Thread" users, I am just a joker)

New method to transcribe a theme for another firmware:
1 - dowload here new tools to do it, they have same name than before, but are realy easier to use:
- New TGAtoD2 (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2663&d=1203441896)
- New D2toTGA (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2662&d=1203441879)
2 - Copy in a folder (folder1) the original "D2N_rs.bin",
and the "D2N_rs.bin" from the theme downloaded in another folder (folder2).
3 - Copy D2toTGA and execute it, in folder 2.
A lot of pictures will be created.
4 - Copy pictures from folder 2 to folder 1 (copy only pictures, do not copy D2N_rs.bin).
5 - Copy TGAtoD2 and execute it in folder 1.
And that's it ! Now you have just to copy the changed "D2N_rs.bin" from folder 1 to the D2 root, and restart it !

I have noticed a DMB TV icon in the settings of 1.55 as they can recieve TV on that frequency in Korea but we cant n the UK ;/ prooves it is capable of TV.
and I have heard the D2 downloads pictures / slide show / info on some BBC DAB screens.
2. Using v1.55 Korean now supports FLASH SKINS AS WELL!! but v4.55 DOSE NOT!. The Dictionary Icon is now present but as there is no English Dictionary
in v1.55k it just errors without crashing, must be a work around for this stripping it out of 4.55 somehow.
Some Image numbers would be useful for THEMES but I can try browsing the images using
paint shop pro.. and D2 to TGA tools..
I must put all my v4.54 Themes for D2 DAB DMB although I now need to work out how to convert to v1.55?? nearly there..

I am sorry to be not able to answer to all those questions.
- Firmwares 1.xx are made for DMB models, not for DAB models (4.xx firmwares are made for them).
- DAB is not the digital radio standard choosed in France, I think will have DVB-T and DVB-S, in a few months.
I just know:
DMB = Digital Media Broadcasting
DAB = Digital Audio Broadcasting
DVB = Digital Video Broadcasting
(DVB-S by satellites, DVB-T by terrestrial emetor, DVB-H for GSM, DVB-C by cable).
- So I have no informations about:
- DAB
- The right using for a "DMB firmware" with a "DAB model"
- 4.xx fw specifications.
You should make a special thread for DAB models on this forum.

I converted Cassini's Utopia Ultimate Blue-Theme for 4.55.
Works perfectly on my D2 DAB, although I don't understand where the DAB icon comes from :-)
