I am a member over at Misticriver and was part of a huge discussion on the Cowon x5.. I was going to purchase a h320 before this sucker came out and now I know this is the player for me.. MisticJeff closed the discussion and told us (The users interested in the x5) that we should come join you guys, so that's what I am doing..

Anything I should be warned of before I buy it?
I know about the small resolution screen but 15FPS playback speed which I prefer more since I will just be watching music videos and stuff from killsometime.com ^_^..
I know about not being able to view pictures while listening.. The subpack is fine for me and I actually prefer it over having them on-board.. Don't care about gapless stuff..
I have pretty much researched the crap outta this DAP and basically have the review here and the one at DAPreview memorized, lol.. Hopefully the members here are just as helpful over at MR.. Thanks people, peace..

We had a iriver/ iaudio discussion a few days ago:
http://iaudiophile.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1970

There's a lot of us who hit the breaks and made a U-turn from iriver the very day X5 came out, so you are not alone.

Sucks that MisticRiver won't allow people to compare their experiences between the two players. Seems to me the people are running that board with a little more dictatorship than I find acceptable.

MisticRiver allowed the discussion but Jeff just closed it after it hit 30 pages long and started to get a bit off-topic.. I just love the looks of the x5 a lot more than that of the H300s.. So anything I should be warned of? Bugs, Hardware Malfunction? lol.. Hardware Malfunction.. ^_^

Not really. Read eXity's review it says what are the cons of the player.

I too was all set to get an iRiver H340 until I heard about this.

I heard about a 9,999 file limit?! Why would Cowon put this on such a beautiful player, if indeed it exists.. I know that the h300's share this similar limit.. And if it does exist does this mean I can only have 9,999 files period or just 9,999 playable songs..?

PigCorpse

Well it's a 10,000 limit :). I don't think it has anything to do with the firmwares, maybe a hardware limitation or file system limitation.

10,000 is better than 9,999.. I don't know if I even have 9,999 Music Files but still, lol.. Good to see you on iAudiophile's forums PigCorpse..!

Good to see you too!

Anyway, I will probably never get that much.

Yea.. I am going to order my x5 tomorrow night hopefully.. I want to wait till eCost gets them in so I can see if they will have another deal but I can't wait that long! June 15 is what an eCost rep told me.. =\

the 9999 file limit will not be a problem with the 20/30 GB models, hopefully they will do something for the 60GB version though.

Is my understanding the 9999 limit is due to cowon using fat32 file system? If so, could a different file system be use that would up the 9999 limit?

Not sure how using FAT32 would limit the number of files, but if that is the case, then what do you choose as an alternative? As soon as you switch to NTFS, ext2, etc, etc then you instantly lose plug and play compatability with some of the market. Not having a go here - just pointing out their possible reasons for using FAT32 - because everything supports it.

Okay I got a couple questions here now.. ^_-

I was going through the Bug and Wishlist thread and noticed some things.. =\

"[B005] Synchronization probs w/ video after ff/rw almost every time

Severity: Pretty damn annoying, making ff/rw in video useless.

Status: Open (to whomever said "Fixed in 2.04" -- its NOT fixed when your playing a file that's long [ie hour and a half])"

That doesn't seem right.. Does this mean that the audio and video get off from each other when fast forwarding and rewinding? If so that makes the ff and rr kind of pointless, lol, like the other dude said.. =\

Can anyone confirm this? Obviously it is true and hopefully Cowon releases a patch for it in the next firmware upgrade.. Is cowon known for releasing lots of firmware? Obviously so since they had already released it for the x5.. Thanks guys..

I wouldn't worry about it too much.. if this is a common problem Cowon will take care of it soon. You remind me of myself by researching every last bit of your purchases :)

Why would anybody whine about paying half the price of something? Im not whining but 300 bucks is a lot of money anyway you split it.. ;)

I'd be surprised if FAT32 can't cope with more than 10,000 files. It has to be used on a PC also.

I'd say it's more likely na OS limit.

I'd say that Cowon coud remove it if they wanted to but maybe the processor can't function with more than 10,000 playable mp3s.. See the player will hold more than 10,000 of anything but only play 10,000 mp3s which is wierd and I don't get how it decides which one to be playable or not..
