over at ABi (http://www.anythingbutipod.com/) Admin. EnzoTen has sent out very little but (Maybe) promising info. about a new slimmer, smaller version of the what will be called the D3. although the info. came from CES this all could be positive news and not false. stay tuned for more information D2 fans.

umm... Cowon is still developing Firmware for there old DAPs. well, i believe they ended that last year(I maybe wrong) they could be still supporting them. don't worry though, Cowon will not stop supporting the D2 anytime soon. now maybe in about 3 years but for now we have to wait 6 months for actually news to come out.

Yup... don't hold your breath guys, we're going to be waiting for it :) So no need to worry if you have just bought a D2 - really and truly.

i know firmware releases won't stop right away, but i definitely don't think we'll be seeing firmware for the D2 in 3 years, probably not even 2 years.

slimmer = this is my favorite word, D3 has to be super-slimmer, and a bit smaller than D2... with the same LCD.

Dude, that thing looks so fake. Why do people do that? The D2 is great and is no where near outdated. It's so lame that someone has to spoof it and make it like there's something better when there is no need. I remember people did that with the X5. People were willing to hold off on buying a X5, and some X5 buyers were having remorse when they saw a spoof pic of X7. Now the X5's are highly sought after and are going for ridiculous prices on ebay.
Update! EnzoTen has confirmed the info. was directly by Cowon. i hope the D3 is thinner then the D2. we'll have to wait even a year from now but who knows.

Hm...I'm gonna poke around some of the korean forum to get more info...I'm gonna get another D2 and I would HATE to see something new around the corner >:O
well, for Cowon it actually only takes a year or so to come around with a new product.
Even if it was D3, it wouldn't be available in shops for like a year... then you'll have to wait for some firmware updates to fix the most ugly bugs, so 1,5 year from now :P

There is of course the possibility that cowon have learned from their mistakes (announcing the Q5 and A3 months before they were ready to ship) so maybe that is why they have not officially said anything about the D3....maybe we're all in for a shock [toungue]

Sure have, I reported on most of their concepts over at DAPreview [laugh] The only one that take my interest is the P20, if that ever comes...
I like the L player too though.. and the spinn to a degree [toungue]

Yeah, iRiver hasn't impressed me too much with their products of late. The last product of theirs I owned was the CD-based Iriver IMP-550 mp3 player (very sweet player complete with digital out, still works to this day!).
The D2, while not as 'sexy' looking as some of the newer, competitor DAPs, easily makes up with its awesome performance and versatility. It's a real man's MP3 player, not for people who want their DAP to match their purse/nails/shoes, etc. Function over fashion, I always say (to a certain extent).
Thinner hardware to me means "easier to break". I'm sticking with my D2, thanks.
Also it's unlikely in that they'll actually listen to users and make this new product gapless, ogg-bug less, and more rounded in sound-quality (lower-end, hello?). Not that I'm complaining, but for some D2 owners it would have been an indirect slap in the face.
funny how Cowon releases new products so quickly within a years time. like when i was just getting to know Cowon(back in 2006) the only product that was new at the time was the F2. after months and months i finally got it but like... one month later the D2 had came in and boy was i pissed. though looking back i'm kinda glad i got the F2. now the thing is broken thanks to my step-sister having to take the protective screen off of it and laying something heavy on the screen. little bit glad i kinda didn't know about the D2 at that time as the prices went down a bit so i was happy. the D3 i hope again, will be thinner, less bugs, and have a more Beautiful GUI.

^that would be insane. Think watching movies with your friends, but having all the dvds in a palm-sized device. Them and their iPods would bow to your glory.
Though my only contention would be that I purchased the D2 specifically for music; I'd rather they perfect this part, before endeavoring in video, since they already have the A-series for that.

Its still a rumor, after that cowon wlil announs it, then they will produce it, then they will sell it. So it will take some time before we can see it. And if it was ready anytime soon we would have seen it in CES. But atleast im hoping to see it in the stores a.s.a.p.

Jesus you guys aren't reading this thread like you should. Cowon will not stop supporting the D2. hell, they are still supporting the T2, U3, F2, i6, G3/G2, and even the i5. D3 Info. came from Cowon at CES so i wouldn't call this a rumor as someone here in the forums posted. if they decide to not support the D2 when the D3 comes around then hell that'll be awhile until that ever happens.

well guys . nothing in this field stays the same for long so no big surprise if this is true. Maybe just me , but it seems to remind me of a clix for some reason, Of course its only when we start seeing some specs of what it's capable of , will we actually start deciding if its going to be worth the upgrade from the D2. Have to say though, some of the new Iriver models announced do look stunning so i can feel 2008 is going to be a tempting year for me to suffer from creditcarditis [no].Will i be reverting back to the iriver camp or just the sheer quality of the music output keep me in the Cowon camp ... mmmm [help]
you'll have to wait later within this summer to even see any news regrading the new release of the D3. i'm looking forward into what the D3 will look like.

this discussion about the d3 really drives me crazy. I truly was about purchasing the d2...but now I really feel somewhat insecure..waiting until CEBIT in order to verify all that rumors??

will check local stores this weekend for a very last time (sold my nh1 in november because of sonicstage --> and I'm currently listening to music via a walkman mobilephone [wacko])
This is what I'd want if they came out with a D3:
1.- 3 inch widescreen...please go away from the 4:3 aspect ratio..it is actually possible to have a 3" widescreen while keeping a very similar form factor.
2.- Control the player with the screen vertical instead of horizontal like the Samsung P2 and ipod touch...try holding your D2 vertical in your hand and see how much easier it would be to control it with one hand. Ofcourse when watching videos it would automatically switch to horizontal just like the P2 and touch. This picture of a mock X5 would be absolutely perfect for the D3 if and when it comes out..(notice the vertical screen): *see image below.
3.- More storage and higher file limatation...I mean right now it's possible with the right firmware to have a total of 24gb of space on the D2 so I'd like to see atleast 32gb's of storage...and it be nice if they'd keep the SD card...I actually like that better than the internal memory.
I think to me that is all I would want because I'm happy with the performance of my D2 in everything I use it for. I don't run into any bugs like others do.

The D2 was cheap to buy (used) and works great.
D3 might certainly be nice for future needs, but the D2 meets all current expectations in stellar fashion for me.

That report is based on what enzoten over at ABi said.... take it with a grain of salt... also, in a light attack on their credibility they also claim a 16gb D2 was released last August... did we all miss that [laugh]
