From what I have read, the X5 is the way to go for an MP3 player. I was wondering how easy it is to use and upload music. I have never owned an MP3 player, but would like one for my upcoming trip. If someone could offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

After reading that, I realize how vague my question is. What I'm trying to ask is if someone with little "gadget" knowhow or someone who has never owned an MP3 could figure out the device by reading the instructions. It looks like this is the one for me, but if you need a college degree in engineering to operate it, I might have second thoughts.

The X5 acts like an external harddrive, it's drag and drop. you don't need any crappy bloated software like with certain other players.

Yes, as Fido said, the X5 is a UMS (USB Mass Storage) device.

What this means is in Windows when you hook up the player to your computer via the USB cable, it will automatically appear as a drive in "My Computer." You then just drag files into the music folder, organized as suits your needs.

What's particularly great about this aspect of the X5 is that it's compatible with not only Windows, but Mac OS, and Linux! In Linux you may have to use a command to mount the drive, depending on your configuation.

But yes, UMS is definitely a feature that greatly adds to ease of use! How much more easy does it get than to just plug it in and drop files? :)
