You can always get what information there is available about firmware updates under 'News' on this site.
You'll also find a downlod link there.

OK, thats great, but there's little info on exactly all the bug fixes.
So..unless there is a list of Bugs in a thread and anyone can comment on their firmware update experience on a USA retail iAudio X5 I'd apreciate it. As I'm still awaiting for mine to ship from Newegg this week. Its still at Step 3 process, which has cleared for charging to my CC. Thanks.

I've downloaded the program, and unzipped it to my x5 in the folder updates, but when I start the x5 I still see in the right corner; version 1.01 orso.

Oh man, and you have the USA retail version of the iAudio X5?
Anywayz, from the supplied pdf manual that a nice forum member put up to download, the manual says:
1. Connect the device to the PC using a USB cable. (Refer to 7. Connecting to a PC Before Using).
2. Download the recent firmware file from the “Download” menu from our homepage at www.iAUDIO.com.
3. Unzip the downloaded file and copy the file to the firmware folder in the iAUDIO X5.
4. Unplug the device from the PC and connect the AC adapter.
5. The power comes on when the adapter is connected, and the firmware automatically upgrades.
6. When the firmware upgrade is complete, it changes to the program running screen, and from
the first screen you can confirm the firmware version.
Firmware is a built-in hardware program, and it can improve the product’s functions or debug it through
an upgrade. The functions and the menu are subject to change without warning through firmware upgrades,
and some beta version firmware can have minor errors in their operation which will be corrected in the
final version.
2. Upgrading the Firmware
※Do not unplug the adapter or turn off the power before the firmware upgrade is complete.
※Make a backup file on your PC since the saved data in the memory can be deleted when upgrading firmware.
Transfer the unzipped .bin you have downloaded into the Firmware folder;
use the Safety Remove Procedure to unplug the device from the pc;
connect the AC adapter and you'll see that the power comes on and the firmware automatically upgrades;
when the firmware upgrade is complete, u will see the program running screen and from the first screen u can confirm the the firmware version!!!
It's all written in the X5 Guide!!! :-)
sorry, did not read that part(to busy with converting cd's and family guy etc.), I also hate those people who ask a question that's already been answered, now I'm one of them ;). but thanks.

I hope they've managed to fit some improved USB-OTG compatability into this latest firmware. I'd feel better about spending $800 on this fooker if I didn't have to spend another $100 on a 1GB CF card for my camera.
Is there anyone with an X5 and a canon digital camera out there? Have you tested it with the latest firmware? I'd like to see at least 1 green line under canon heading in the damn USB-OTG compatibility list.

Ever heard of Card Readers??? Instead of freaking out for nothing, there's always an option to find out how things work.

Well, last I heard you were swearing and freaking out about needing to spend $100 on a CF card. Card readers are a lot cheaper than that.
Besides, the thing with USBOTG is a little more comlicated than including new devices with a firmware fix. You can pretty much trust that if it is not supported now, then it will not be.
Your options are: (1) Buy a card reader, (2) buy a Nikon, (3) sit and wait and get more and more angry when things do not work the way you want.

Then what's hte problem.
I really think you are complicating a simple matter needlessly. Regardless of future updates, you can get you photos uploaded if you spend a few dollars on a card reader. Besides, with a separate reader you won't be tying up your camera.
Ed: Looking at the machine trranslated description, only improvement to firmware in the latest version is FLAC level 8 support, everything else is bug fixes. So I guess you can be relatively sure that the support issue has not been fixed.
I can understand your point korinengell.
You must carry another thing around, that can be lost or broke. I surely hope they will bring out an firmware to solve the problem, a friend of mine will have the same problem (he owns an ixus 400)

Thankyou luuk. That is exactly my point. I'm backpacking around Europe for 4 months. I really don't want to add extra gear unless absolutely necessary and I really don't want to spend money on stuff I can avoid. I have the ixus 400 as well and the friend I am travelling with has the ixus 430 and he wants an X5 as well. So we may both be screwed and maybe we will split a card reader between us (presuming someone has verified that a card reader works?, however I doubt all card readers work).
My question about the release notes for v2.07 is whether they are release notes for version 2.06 to 2.07 or is they are the full set of notes from the last official release 2.04 to 2.07. Because there may be a bunch of other goodies in there that people don't even realise.

My 2 cents: If you get traumatized when you AUDIO player shows any slightest inconvenience uploading photos from you camera, and at the same time you really don't care if it crashes and don't play audio [as you have said elsewhere] wouldn't you then be better off getting a dedicated photo storage.
If I understand correctly, you haven't even bought one yet. You might want to look elsewhere for units that you'd be happy with.

As much as I appreciate all your advice on what you think I should do, I really don't regard it with any relevence to me at all. So please stop offering it, I never even asked for advice...
I'm well aware of firmware stability problems and the fact that v2.04 doesn't work with my camera. I completely understand the limitations of the device at this point in time and I am still happy with the current feature set of the X5 (compared to anything else on the market).
The only real problems I have with the X5 are it's ridiculous price outside of the USA and the fact that it's USB-OTG doesn't work with my camera.
My question was very simple but I'll reiterate for the sake of clarity: Has anyone tested this latest firmware version 2.07 with a cannon camera?
eXity...help me out here, you have the A95. Have you installed v2.07 and tested USB-OTG?
If it does... Fantastic! Then maybe I won't feel so ripped off paying the whopping $800 AUD price tag. But while I am still trying to source it from the USA, I am still trying to gather as much information about it as I can...

Posting on public forus comes with the risk that ppl may reply and express their opinion. Live with it!
You were clear in your initial post that you have doubts about getting x5, and your major concern seems to be downloading photos from your camera. That was the best advice I could give someone in your situation.
The Canon support, btw, is a matter of implementation, not stability.

My first DAP. In my girlfriends small little hands and my hand is next to hers. I got it today from Newegg.om I paid about $355 bucks for it. I Love it. Also, our Minolta Dimage E223 works with it.
http://www.axledentaldj.com/iaudiox51.jpg - Edited because image too large
The first thing I did was update its firmware from 2.01-a to 2.07-k. It defaults to english.
So far, I'm getting acustom to the little joystick and the other buttons and the UI. Its not that bad as some people make out. Considering this is my first DAP. In the past I handled an 20GB IPOD and an IPHOTO IPOD. My girlfriend still wants the U2 IPOD though..for the U2 design.
The iAudio X5's included headphones are OK. I do have Sony MDR-V600's and they
sounded great with the iAudio X5 (30GB model). I have about 4Gbs left now. I can say the only things I think could have room for imprvement are the transitions from reading a text file, or picture, to playing an MP3 as there is some delay. Still wish a 100GB 1.8 micro drive would come out soon and at a resonable price. Read the iAudio X5 review and decide from there, as I did. I don't regret it. Anyone got questions, feel free to ask them.

I got the Voice recording to wrok again and then played back my voice recording at treh same time and it stuck/hanged there adn won't let me back out to the main menu of the X5's UI. Damm...
Anyone else experience this in teir X5 30GB US unit on the 2.07-k firmware?
I've tried voice recording a few times and it works fine for me. Could you still do voice recording functions or did it freeze?
The Axledental DJ
05-26-2005, 01:15
It aparrently partially froze, I was stuck insude my VOICE recordings foldering viewing the recorded voice file and playing it and I pressed record button and it started to record more. I could hear it through the headphones it was recoding more and more and the Hour glass came up and I heard a spind down and tiny click like the HDD stopped, thus not allowing me to back out of the voice folder. I've email iAudio about what happened to my X5 unit. Pressing the reset pin hole button did let me re-boot the X5. And then I notice 6 more voice recordings. So, its some kind og GUI/bug glitch? I also experienced a simular UI freeze/glitch when I tried to play back a converted xvid video and all I could see was a black pic and hear the video. backoung out of that caused a FREEZe. ughh...

Dammit, I did it again.. I might be able to reproduce the bug.
1. turn on iAudio X5 (30GB)
2. Hold Joystick down and go into Voice Record mode.
3.Press record button, and record a 5 second voice sample.
4.Press record button again to stop recording.
5.Press Play to listen to voice recording.
6.Hold joystick down to go to Main menu and Digital AV mode.
7. Go into the root folder to get into VOICE folder.
8. Highligh 1st voice recording and Press Play button. Then quickly...
9. Hold down joystick to get back to fiel name of voice recording and press Record button. Somehow.. I think, I got it to start playing the voice recording and at the same time record a voice recording so it was stuck i a loop and it just stayed on the file display and I could keep pressing th recrod button to recod more and I would see the hour glass, but could not get back out to the main menu. Does this help?

Thanks for that epiphany.
No need to be sarcastic, a thank you would do when somone corrects erroneus assumptions.
I am using X5, and the firmware is VERY stable - I don't think I could make it fail if I tried. You have not understood what your problem with USBTG is, when you say that it is an instability issue of X5 firmware, when in fact it is a problem with Canon's implementation of USB file transfers.
I wouldn't want you to go around and keep spreading informtion that is not correct.

Anyway, I'll be doing my weekend thing starting tomorrow, and Monday I'll be off to Montreal - so I don't much care what's happening here =o)

Because it's been out in Korea for a few months and only weeks everywhere else. It defaults to whatever language your DAP is set to.
English is common in Korea also.

No offence Axel but it never ceases to amaze me how much people go on looks alone.
Take mobile phones (and Ipods). People are always saying how good it looks without any knowledge of the battery life, reception quality, speed etc . . . The looks are near the end of my list.
