Has anyone the same problem? [cry]
You can only see it when the screen is black.

Was going to post the same thing today.
When the screen is full it is not noticeable. But when I watch a wide-screen movie that has the black bars at the top and bottom, I see 4 white "bubbles" along the bottom and 1 on the right of the screen. It was very noticeable in the dimmed environment of an airplane. I tried turning the backlight down to the lowest and it remained the same. Is this a bad screen, just poor build quality, or what? For $600, you'd maybe expect a little better.

So nobody else has this problem with a few light "bubbles" at the bottom or side of the screen? Again, it's most noticeable during playback of movies that don't fill the top and bottom of the screen and in dim light conditions (like an airplane or watching movies in bed).
I am trying to decide if I RMA/ exchange for a new unit and have only a few days before my 30 days is up. Any input is appreciated. Thanks very much.

I now watched a film in dim light with black stripes too, but i could not see anything even when i looked very near. The (short) film i saw was not very dark itself so it could be that i was distracted of this. For me there's nothing bothersome...

Hi,
It's the same for me. Don't send your unit back, in my opinion every q5w does it.

Helfetix and Getz, thanks for your responses.

To me, thats unacceptable. I would go ahead and assume almost every cowon unit is like this -- a similar issue to the dust problem in the a2. I forsee someone opening the unit to seal around the screen to fix this issue... It would drive me nuts.

I have the same issue too,and I do think it is a hardware defect!
I have the same thing and was wondering if it was just mine or not, but now I see that mine is not the only one with this issue.
But I currently have no plans to send it back.
Same here. I have the Light Bubbles too. I think it's normal and not a factory default...
Greez Tomz
this is a well known issue for Cowon.
korean Q5 has the same problem.
Yes, as i said before in this thread, mind does the same and i thought it was not important. But after having seen a few movies on the q5w i must say i'm not very satisfied because of this...[mad]
A such high cost product should not suffer from that kind of issue...
I'll keep my unit but...[thumbdwn] One bad point for Cowon !
Hi,
Some people get this trouble with their q5w, some not. Where did you all guyz purchase your q5w ? Did you all get it on ebay ?
Please answer me, i'm trying to collect information about that default.

I don't really find this as being a problem. You can only notice the lights if you're in a dark room and the picture on the screen is almost black. Frankly, I'm hardly ever watching videos during these conditions, so this doesn't really bother me.
And I bought mine from newegg.
Hello,
You said : ' I don't really find this as being a problem. You can only notice the lights if you're in a dark room and the picture on the screen is almost black. Frankly, I'm hardly ever watching videos during these conditions, so this doesn't really bother me.'
--> YOU don't, but i personally do...
Nevermind, i'll keep my unit anyway...

I have three or four V-shaped white flares from the bottom of the screen, and one on the right. This is ALWAYS visible in a completely dark room during dark movie scenes http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/7056/118ov9tx7.gif It is irritating and leaves me to wonder about Quality Control...
I purchased mine via jetmall. I pity the fools who patronize newegg (they sell broken junk. if you haven't been screwed yet its a matter of time. quit while you're ahead)
I have the same issue, and it is irritating. I agree that it shows a breakdown in quality control. I also own an A3, and when I contacted tech support about the warping battery problem, I was told that Cowon is simply unable to test all of its players. Btw, I purchased my Q5 from Amazon.

Newegg has an excellent reputation, one of the best resellerratings.com overall ratings. I know from personal experience that when they do make a mistake, they bend over backwards to rectify it.
I ordered a Supportplus PMP51C from them, for the best price around. It was defective. They promptly paid return shipping, and prepared to ship me another. Unfortunately, they sold out the day my return arrived, so they cancelled my order.
When I complained that they should have reserved one when they knew my order was being exchanged, they gave me a $100 store credit, and offered to sell me an A2 for the same price as the PMP51C. With the credit, I got a brand new Cowon A2 for $40! Superior to the PMP51C in every respect (10gb more storage, higher res, more codec compatibility, better build). All I was looking to get was the original item I'd ordered and paid for. I got much more.
If you had a genuine problem with Newegg, go to resellerratings.com, and document it. They have reps who read there regularly, who will contact those with true beefs, and work to make them satisfied. I got much more than it would have taken to satisfy me.
Now Cowon's customer support...
I have this problem too and it is iritating. I got mine from amazon.
Screw you! xD
I can imagine I would never ever realized this failure on my Q5W but now I just had to try it...
What I want to say: Same here >.> I´ll try to ignore it. Seems like this is a general error. Well thanks again ^^ ;)
Btw. I´m living in Germany and I bought mine from amazon.
Don't cry folks, it's the Mura Effect (type 3).
Mura Effect: An imperfection in the screen's homogeneity usually caused when the panel is not properly sealed or when too much pressure is applied on the screen. Most common in lower grade production. For more info, follow this link : http://www.behardware.com/articles/589-1/panels-a-carte-mura-components-dead-pixels.html
Mura Effect type 3 is related to distance or defects between the panel and liquid crystals. This occurs when the panel is sealed and side pressure is imperfect. If it´s too strong, cells are crushed and there is a bright halo in a corner along the panel.
So, it's "normal" and not covered in the warranty [mad]
