Dear Cowon, would it possible to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get an X5 without the annoying "COLOR SOUND" written all over it? Maybe this is cool in Korea, but in the US/Europe/...?
Any opinions on this?

i think its fine, yah its a little big but not really that bad. (i dont have one but i have seen the pictures) oh and about the spelling thing, it doesnt bother me, I'm actuelly glad its not spelled colour. Sorry, its just that im in the US and thats the american spelling.

a little silly, but I'll operate it with a remote (The remote was shipped last thursday, now waiting for the x5) and the player will be in my pocket, so I won't really be seeing too much of it.
When you read the manual, by the way, it is full of that kind of stuff - did you know that x5 comes with "super huge storage". Kind of charming, really. The kind of thing that happens when you don't have the resources like the multinational corporations do, such as marketing departments, internationa target audiences and crap.
That's what I find appealing about these things - they still got their roots. Five years from now, I suspect the iaudio will have grown to a point where they will have lost touch with their nationality, and will be spitting out sterile and boring products aimed at the international market, aiming to please the masses just like everybody else. And we all will be talking about the good old days when when the best DAPs came with silly Korean logos.
Yeah...I envy you if this is the kind of thing that you worry about...get some real problems and then you won't care if it says "purple burrito" :P

I'd like that... they could also have a picture of a little purple donkey as a logo.
Hopefully someone will be leet enought to come out wit a sticky sticker frame that will cover up the color sound and protect the screen. I'm still waiting on an iSkin for the X5.

No need to apologise both are the correct spelling. I'm from the UK so type colour.
There was no implication in me using said spelling. In a way with Americana/Americanisation what it is colour would look a "little" odd.

I dont have my iAudio X5 30GB unit yet, but the logo doesnt really bother me. You could always tryto remove it..?
it would have been cool if they got rid of that color sound and made the screen bigger..
but i don't think it is bad enough for stickers.. hehe

It would need to have a comma between color and sound to say that! So no it doesn't fit.

I don't care if it's UK or American. Alins is right. The X5 and iaudio design is so cool and stylish. How could they destroy all perfection like that?
Of course, it doesn't matter, you're getting used to it and it's just part of the player.
But it's such a thing that makes you put your hand onto your forehead and think "why why why?" everytime you see it, doesn't it?

It mindboggling, the things people come up with ehrn they have no real problems.
Perhaps it was meant to read "collar sound" indicating that the collor around the mini jack plugs was reliable :p
Hey guess what...people are dying from hunger and war...hell my good friend has terminal cancer and is young...but you know what...the biggest problem is that my X5 says color or colour or whatever...man the world is cruel...damn Cowon for making us suffer with a real problem...

I do give plenty to charity...money and work...and the X5 will store my language files that I can study while abroad to further help in my efforts...

I think this was just an opinion. If you charity people now tell me you never fuss about small and stupid things in life I won't be able to believe you.
To be open minded and caring about what happens around me is a good thing, but it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to waste my time on simple things, does it?
Charity people...hahahaha. Curse us evil charity people. I love my X5 and could care less what it says on it. It could say Woeberland Rules and even though it is obviously a typo I wouldn't give it a second thought ;)

Ok Ok...my whole point was that the original poster seemed distressed about the whole "color sound" thing...which I would think most of you would agree is quite a ridiculous thing to be distressed about. You can belittle my charity efforts or my concerns with real world problems all you like. This isn't the iPod Lounge from what I have seen...in THAT forum if you don't agree with the sheep they get all over you. If you think that worrying about something so petty as a logo is a worthwhile venture then go for it...I hope you never have to worry about true problems. And if I should go to a "war and poverty forum" as mentioned maybe you should go to a "whining about dumb meaningless things" forum. Hypocrisy runs rampant.
And I still LOVE my X5!! Thanks to the posters here who actually post useful info regarding these players as it helped me choose.

Color Sound has been their slogan for a while, now. It refers to the jetEffects; the sound effects provided by BBE. It takes your music and makes it more 'colorful', thus being color sound.
Yeah, I think it's stupid, too. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Nice pic. It looks like someone needs to make a screen protector with a black bar on the right side were you can put whatever you want or just leave it black.

I wish it didnt say "color sound" and just had an iaudio logo or said iaudio, or better yet, said nothing. I think it makes the player look cheap.
Any ideas of how to remove the writing? Painting, removing, etc?

easiest way is probably to buy the MisticAudio case and paint the screenprotector on the place where you normally can see the slogan. This way you don't "hurt" your X5!
... or even better, give me a X5 and grant for you a nice place in haven!

I laughed when I saw this thread. I actually have a friend who said he wouldn't purchase an X5 because of the "COLOR SOUND" on it. It's rather beside the point as he's a diehard Apple convert and I was showing him the X5, but it still proves that it is detrimental to Cowon whether anyone wants to admit to it or not.
And while the thing keeping me from an X5 is lack of a metatag database, the "COLOR SOUND" thing really bugs me. I've decided I'd try to cover it up with a Sharpie.
Eh....for me, as long as it plays music and such....doesn't really matter what it says. I want a screen protector with a black bar and in the same font and such say, "Apple iPod". Just to see what peoples' reaction would be like. I wonder if they'd believe it was a new and revamped iPod........ (It'll be in the case, so the iAudio part won't show ;) )
How about a bunch of screen protectors that have "Cowple Xpod" on them. ;)

The ironic thing is that, in high-end audio circles, the term 'coloured sound' is very negative, and is used to describe gear that artificially boosts some frequencies to make it more attractive when you're demoing it, real fidelity be damned (can you say Sony?).

anyway, my theory on Why, why why! Color Sound is: That is a plot to have the North Koreans to wonder about it until their heads explode, at which point the South Koreans can simply walk in and take over [after some cleaning up, of course]
It's got to the point where the real reason for the "Color Sound" slogan is too dull to mention beside all the wierd and wacky theories put forth in this thread...
Well is sounds like there is definitely a market for products that would cover up the "color sound". Perhaps MisticAudio could come up with a screen protector that has a customizeable logo or none at all. After seeing their case for the X5, I have no doubt in their abilities.

You are all missing the obvious. To the west of Korea lies the YELLOW Sea. Yellow is a color (or colour if you prefer).
A sound is a body of water situated between two larger bodies of water or between an island and the mainland. If you look at a map of Korea, you'll see that there are a number of islands within the Yellow Sea off the west coast of Korea.
Therefore, "COLOR SOUND" is clearly a reference to the location of the Lost City of Atlantis lying off the west coast of Korea. Surely Elvis plays there nightly. Those sneaky folks at Cowon have been keeping this a secret from the rest of us! Come to think of it, what does "cowon" mean? Any conspiracy theorists care to take a stab at it?
As annoying as "color sound" or anything else on the casing goes, at least it's not a pink "Hello Kitty"! I vote for the black Sharpee or some enamel as a solution to those who care enough about it.
And yes, I do have plenty more important things that I could be worrying about or doing, but sometimes a satirical diversion is good!

Well, I am from Brazil. Until a few years ago we related Korea as a very far, far place to go and that was all.
Then a great deal of immigrants are coming here every year. They seem to be friendly and hard working.
Then, I saw the "Old Boy" movie, and man, what a flick. That kind of movie that americans doesnīt have the guts to do any more.
Then I bought my X5...

Oldboy is one of the best film I've seen in years. Apperently hollywood is doing a remake to come out in 2006. I'm so pissed. The Korean version had a limited release earlier this year, but it deserves to be released widely instead of being remade. It's the best i've seen this year without a doubt.

what REALLY annoys me is when you turn it around, it says 'Tested To Comply With FCC Standard". Hello! "to" is not supposed to be capitalized!
It is like sooo embarrasing when ppl with iPods are all telling how TOTALLY wrong it is and it makes my player seem bad, and I just want to DIE unless cowon makes like a sticker or something I can cover myself with until they go away.
Well, it is silkscreened on, so it will probably wear off in time.
