It seems I cannot update the latest firmware 1.15 alpha. My player just turns on rather than update itself. Any ideas?

Might want to try the newest, final 1.15 update. (It's out of alpha and beta already.)

You may be doing the next parts, but just to recap - unzip the update file and copy all the files (not the folder) into the A3's root directory. Then make sure you press IN on the joystick while simultaneously pressing the power button to upgrade the firmware.

If that doesn't work ... does the joystick work okay normally, pressing in on it?

Still, that just sounds odd. Hope it's just a fluke. Good luck.

I have the same problem. Initiating firmware upgrade seems to work at first, but after the 2nd "dot" on the upgrade process, the A3 went on and booted itself up instead of finishing the update. I wasn't sure what the cause is, but I decided to re-format the player and the firmware update process worked fine after that. The only thing I could think of is that I did a file transfer with a Mac, and Mac OS created a couple hidden folders and files on the drive (.trashes folder, etc). Maybe that confused the firmware program.

Funny, I updated to the "final" 1.15 and a similar thing happened: after the second "dot", it suddenly went to NO dots - and then total shutdown. Rebooted. Nope, still not happy. Attempted firmware upgrade again -- two dots and shut down.

Re-downloaded the firmware, hooked up the A3 again and dragged the unzipped files into the root directory. Disconnected and began firmware upgrade.

One dot ... two ... then none. Again.

I waited it out, didn't touch it ... and it completed the firmware installation. Not confident the upgrade took, though, as it still lists 1.15A as my version - the same as before.

Gonna wait a bit before upgrading next time.

Got my A3 in the post today. Just upgraded from 1.11 to 1.15 and saw the A3
reboot after the 2nd dot too. However it eventually carried on and seemed
to switch off as the last dot would have gone on.

System screen shows 1.15A though, so that must be the version in the firmware file.

Where is the firmware upgrade? I know it's not on the CowonAmerica site, so I went to Cowon.com and still can't find any firmware for the A3...

Just use the link in the first post of the Sticky Thread.

So far very impressed by screen quality!

Noticed slight brightness modulation on S-Video OUT to an old 32" CRT Widescreen TV. The modulation looks like it is due to Audio signal level
interfering with the video signal. Using just the composite out lead it seemed
fine. Haven't tried component yet.

Sorry getting off-topic. I've tried component, S-Video and composite to a 1 year old Panasonic 26" LCD and the results were perfect! Actually struggled to see any difference between S-Video and Componenent.

I suspect the audio input sockets on my Philips 32" Widesceen are too low an impedance and caused the above problem.

Hey people, first poster here, I'd been lurking for a long time waiting for the release of this gem.

Anyway, I had the same problem updating my firmware, I just found out that what I did was copy the firmware files into the system folder, not the root folder (where all the folders are listed) so for those of you who are getting the two dot interruption, make sure you're copying it to where it's supposed to be located.

When I first copied the files to the system folder I overwrote a file, just one I think, could that have something to do with the player skipping on a avi file? cause before that I hadn't seen it skipping with any file but after the wrong update there were some seldom rare ocasions when the video got ahead of the audio, could just be the file however...
