This thread is about the new feature in FW3.53b to use Flash Skins in the Playing Screen.
Post all information about Flash Skins and any discussion here.

To use a flash skin it has to be named "music.swf" and has to be in the "SYSTEM" folder of your D2.

the .fla file measure only 8 bytes. i believe there is something wrong with that file.

Taking a look at the current flash skins, I'd say the biggest issue is the cover art. They are very poorly implemented, and after playing with the code for a while, I've learned it's a tricky little SOB!!!!! I'm no actionscript wizard unfortunately, so it'll take me time to figure it out.

Hi, I've downloaded all of the flash skins from the gallery into /flash. From there I've gone
into the flash player >> selected the skin and they crash the D2. How to do you use the skins? I can't find the answer on the board? thx!

You can only have one skin at a time in the D2. Make sure the flash skin file is called music.swf, and that it is in the SYSTEM folder. To use it, you have to enable it by going to Settings > Display > Flash Skin.

Also i noticed that the Black Future Skin has 4 different screens shots (I'm guessing there navigated by the side arrows) is there a limit to the amount of screens that can be used with a skin, or what they might contain?

Glitch for Flash Interface:

Press Play then press Stop or Pause. Then press FF or REW. The titles will change, but the cover art as well as the song will not. I can't figure out how to fix it.

I've taken shots in the dark with the code, but I think that the fscommand2("next") and fscommand2("prev") function needs to be changed.

Hmm, well I was going to change to 2.53 but I'll stick with 3.53 to play around with these [biggrin]

Just an idea though, shouldn't these threads be moved to the Flash section?

I'll be happy to test any early skin builds for people.

Oh and full screen album art would be awesome. Especially as I've been so anal about putting high res ones on the device!!

Ok, so I'm getting album art problems on the black future skin too, just to confirm. Embedded art in mp3's is being shown but in the top left corner, behind everything else and cover.jpg album art does not show up at all.

Out of interest, how easy is it to get into Flash programming (in general/enough to work on skins for this)

Ok, well after my final exam on tuesday I'll have to sit down with a 30 day trial of Adobe's Flash and see how quickly I can pick it up (tutorials included apparently).

Yes, this level of flash is not for the beginner. I would say Intermediate to Experts.

For those concerns about the album art, it is easy to set a location for the album art, but I believe it is currently impossible to change it's dimensions. Also, you can not animate the cover art. Also, any moving objects will take priority and become "on top" of the cover art.

I wanted to design a new UI, but it seems like I'm going to be busy just trying to hammer out some bugs. Oh well.

Hi,

i've tested several Flash skins here available. Each of them failed in the case the user touched the play position slider to a forward position. Backward is ok. Furthermore each of them fails in different manner, when it comes to display the album art.

Only badly implemented, or a general cowon flash problem?

You aren't able to seek forward? I am able to flawlessly using the basic level one even.

Could you elaborate on the "other" problems that you are having with the flash player? Thanks.

To the mods, maybe we should set up a "known issues" for the flash ui. It will be easier for us programmers to see what needs work. Team work!

I think there are a lot of great design ideas over at rockbox.org (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIpod5g)
I know they are made for the iPod and are not made in Flash but as the design in concerned some are perfect !

Good link, but what I'd like to stress to the other developers is this: Usability. Make it as pretty as you'd like, BUT it is imperative that the design really works.

The touchscreen is amazing and we need to capitalize on it!

I think it shouldn't be hard to create flash skins. Draw your own buttons etc but name the instances the same as it is in the source .fla file.

That's true if you want to do a simple facelift. By giving us direct control of the player and by giving us input by the player, we can do MUCH MUCH more than just make it look prettier.

that's a bug in that user's skin. no way to fix it currently so he just left it as is.

If you dig through the actionscript code, maybe you'll know how to do more things with D2 using flash :]. I don't have the time to analyze few hundrets of actionscript. But I'll try to make my own skin :]

Anyway it's a flash skin, not a D2 flash contol center - it's supposed to give D2 a facelift and nothing else..

In general, the role of Support is to know as much as possible about the product's issues, but they usually aren't a real-time conduit to the product planners or lowest level bug fixers - that would take too much time from those groups, having to respond 24x7 to a voracious online community, hungry for answers. This feature is so new, I'm not sure what kind of expectations we should have in the non-Korean firmwares yet. We don't know if it's being first shipped there as a user feedback experiment before globalizing or what, for example.

It's good to report things, because that can help set the priorities over time of internal teams who actually work on the things you ask.

Forgive me this question (specially as a start in the forum [rolleyes]):

Where do i get the 3.53fw? on cowonglobal.com i only found 2.53beta (which is installed) and the 4.53 for the DAB (which i do not have). But nowhere i found a 3.53 (even outside cowon.com...)

I wouldn't ask, but the damn cool flash-menus won't work, and i don't have the "flash" entry in settings->display.

I don't see any actionscript in the .fla files posted in the finished themes thread... Is it only possible to make cosmetic changes to the original?

I was hoping it would be possible to implement an on-screen volume control, show additional ID3 Tag information while playing, or do other things like that.

I can not download skins :

Is automaticly open by my flash player with firefox and I can't download it.

So I tried to download

Editable .FLA --> "...://timreinhart.kilu.de/Cowon%20D...0-%20music.rar"

and rename it "music.swf", but it do not work.

Perhaps the solution is somewhere in other post, sorry but like I say in my signature....

You don't rename the .rar file, thats like a zip file. You need either winrar or 7zip to open it. Then rename the file inside that.

As LostPhil says, a .rar file is an archive file, just like a .zip file or a .7z file. You need an archiving program to decompress it. I would recommend WinRAR or 7-Zip.

Check the French Wikipedia for more info on .rar (Francais) (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAR_%28format_de_fichier%29) and WinRAR (Francais) (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winrar) or 7-Zip (Francais) (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip). (it is always a good idea to check your native language wikipedia for information if you don't speak or read English very well).

After decompressing, rename the .swf file you wish to use to music.swf

Hope that helps.

Left - Right Arrow simply changes tracks and FFR/FRW
Up Arrow gets you to the browser
Bottom middle is play and puse

Well I can only change apperance! because I have no clue about flash programming ^^
This was a design created for Rockbox and I played with it back in the day.
I have a Skin in the works to go with my iTouch theme but I got stuck withit so I started tihs skin.
I might return to working on it but for now I have some more interesting skin ideas I wanna work on ^^
So you should expect more skins to follow soon.

I didn't have much time to test the skin and I really would like to fix most of the bugs before final release tomorrow !
So report all bugs and last minute ideas on how to improve it (Optic! no programming)

In some message I've post here (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18349) I exaggerate that Flash UI could be almost to create a new firmware for a creative and smart designer.

I wasn't exaggerating at all [wink]. Madman have prove to be such kind of designers, please take a look to this Flash UI here (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showpost.php?p=157248&postcount=4) and try it... it's really a marvel of design and good taste.

Pay attention that all the buttons are working, none of them it's just a beautifier element. For instance the arrow left on top drives you to main menu, which is indeed useful, all the small buttons are all working. Finally pick the ball in the slider and move it back or forth... it works flawlessly.

Believe me this Flash UI and Madman work have convinced me that Cowon have done a great job adding this feature.

Thanks Madman for your great work!!! [thumbsup].

PS.: iTouch look more pretty in my Cowon D2.

No unfortunatly my knowledge of flash scripting is non existant and most of the script changes (other than shifting album art position) I tried met with failure. Sadly I was not able to impliment my original concept design which included a pop out split screen menu containing all the setting options rather than having them as buttons on the main UI. Never say die though I am still working on it :).

Will also try to include a coverflow animation into the background.

Let me tell you that IMHO your posted design is better than that one with pop up screen... [yes]
I really like that all buttons works as it should... all handy no matter how small the buttons are... I use just fingers to play my D2 and I haven't find any trouble pressing them.
The left arrow connecting to Main Menu is really useful... in your previous design there where needed two taps to reach it.

I am not using the coverflow version but it will be nice to see if you succeed in your idea of the animation.

PD.: I've show your design to local provider of Cowon and they will download your design to be used in their players.

The play/pause button changes to the wrong one if you go into a menu and exit to the playing screen again.

Album art only shows up when you pause and play, doesn't show up directly. Or it shows up when the backlight goes off and back on.

If I have a long song title that takes up the whole title bar (like the title Funiculi Funicula (1880) - Luciano Pavarotti), the first and the last letter are still displayed when changing to the next song (in this case, the first F and the last i (and even part of the last lowercase t) are still displayed). If the next song title is Fair, the song title bar looks like this:
F________Fair_______:i
The _'s are spaces, but this forum won't allow spaces.

The battery meter doesn't display correctly, the bar inside touches the bottom of the battery, there's no free pixel line.

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but you can't click on the progress bar to skip, you can only drag the meter (I like to drag it though [biggrin]).

Great skin btw. Keep it up. I installed FW 3.53 just to get your skin!

some of those you mentioned Judge are Firmware bugs. though it maybe Final... it's a disappointment to a few users such as myself. they didn't take there time in fixing the ID3 Tag issues.

I am working on the issu with the to long song titles.
And the battery works just fine on my screen ? what firmware are you using ?

Thanks. I just installed your iTouch theme for 3.53 as well, looks great [biggrin]. And all the new music I just uploaded after the firmware upgrade has embedded album art. That does show up instantly, without having to turn the screen off and on. I'm off to embed all my album art into the songs [biggrin].

I have my album art stored three ways:
- embedded
- cover.jpg as large as I can find it in album folder
- cover.bmp (100x100 pixels) in album folder

This way I'm always covered (rockbox on my iRiver H340 uses the bmp, foobar and iTunes use the jpg and the D2 uses embedded).

This method does take up some extra room on my hard drive, but I'm not bothered by that.

Bugs fixed:
Battery idicator now shows correct position.

Thats awesome. Large album art would be sweet.
Dunno if its possible but it'd be cool to be able to touch the album cover and that'd make it full screen or larger.

Fishfutter, you stated on your Final of iTouch Skin that you fixed where the Title/Artist Text refreshes. i thought that was a Firmware Bug? if the Artist Text/Title refresh then most certainly this means same for the Album Art Correct?

no unfotuned not, I fixed it a different way !
I just expanded the text frame to the full width of the display.
That fixed the problem ^^
But I noticed that album art work much better with the new firmware (3.53Final)

Who would be interested in a Skin for using the D2 in the car ?
I was thinking like really big buttons for changing tracks and not much else.
No EQ settings on the screen
No A-B selection repead
No Progress bar ect.
Just really simple so you don't have to take your eyes of the road for to long !

Well the album art is only for the playing screen so I don't think it will work as a D2 background for all screens.
I'm working on a theme with 240x240 album art ^^

Nice Fishfutter, I'll install the new version asap. I found two more bugs on the old one though, I'll check if they're in the new one as well:

- the AM/PM letters do not align properly with the time, AM/PM is a pixel lower. (font patch applied).

- This one is probably a firmware bug: if you hold the progress bar and a song finishes, the song pauses at the end. If you let the progress bar go, the next song plays at the point you let the progress bar go, but all the song information does not change. Weird bug.

EDIT (after updating to new version of your skin):

The first bug is fixed in the new version of your skin. Good to see the battery is fixed too .

A new problem is that long titles disappear under the 'back' and 'browser' images, instead of scrolling between them.

[b]Second EDIT:

Referring to the above AM/PM bug: it seems that the letters PM are aligned properly, but the letters AM are lower and do not align properly.

That looks pretty cool. You could tap the album art to activate a tab which pops up at the bottom with the Artist and Song titles? Could even cover half the art and include more information too (progress bar etc.). Just a thought, that's probably hard to implement.

That skin looks great. Just one point. Dont know if it's possible, but if you can make the actual touch surface (off the buttons) bigger than the button itself it would be very handy.

I'm not sure if this is possible though.

I will share with all a test I did which maybe is not so original but interesting by its result. I pick the picture posted to show Clix flash UI and I use it as wallpaper while I was using the same flash skin for the music.here (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showpost.php?p=157946&postcount=117)

The resulting effect is very nice because called options appears as floating over the music screen absolutely integrated. The bad thing was to see the icons superposed by icons of called options.

I'll suggest to our nice designators to post the background of flash design without the icons and texts to use them as wallpaper as Fishfutter did posting the background of his iTouch flash skin.

For crying out loud... Looks like the swap from ogg to mp3 is looming ever closer damnit! No album art (can't embed it), screwy tag browsing... Just fed up with it!

Apologies for the outburst but why on earth is the one good file format (file size/quality) so poorly implemented!? I wouldn't mind switching to mp3 but then I have no idea how much extra file space it'll take up!

that's a Firmware bug i believe.

strange, because the previous version of his skin which was built on 1.10 flash ui displays my cover arts, although the screen needed to be reflashed. (My cover arts are all cover.jpg and not embedded.)

now with his skin based on 1.11 flash UI, many many bugs were fixed but the cover art stop displaying totally.

Hey Flutterfish I just tried your Cinema skin NICE.... but there is a newer version of the flash UI 1.11 with all the coverart display issues fixed you can grab it from the 3.53 final Cowon download page.

Been having a lot of fun with the flash UI myself, I think for someone with flash scripting knowledge the possibilities would be almost endless, but am fudge my way through and adding a few frames, adjusting a few settings like the coverart size etc.. and ending up with a Pocket Version Vista complete with animated sidebar gadgets like a clock that displays the sun and moon rise for time of day etc...

I'f been working with the new UI 1.11 for 2 days now and cinema is based on it.
It's the only way to resize album art anyway ^^

Ah sorry just that when I tried the Cinema skin it seems to still have the old problems with coverart not displaying until the screen is refreshed and the art and song titles not changing when using the menu button to skip tracks which are problems I don't seem to be having with 1.11.

No adding the .FLA (file used to work on the skin in Flash) won't fix any problem but its so anyone who wants to can change it in anyway they like !
and this way we get more skins faster ^^
and it gives others the chance of fixing bugs you can't fix cause of lagging flash skills.

Well I found that if you select "Antialias for animation" in the font properties and embed the font (capitals, lowercase, numerals and symbols) you can pretty much use any size or font. Increases the .swf file up to 200-300 KB but seems to work without problems.

nope not here. i created a second folder of my music and have most files Embedded with Album Art besides a few .WMA files. WMA files don't seem to work with any FLASH UI Skin that i've tried so far. Fishfutter's Skin CLIX showed Album Art but when i paused and went on to switch a track and then... play it, it wouldn't show. still with 1.11 FLASH UI i think that issue still remains.

I don't have any real experience with actionscript...just made a few media players using a tutorial, etc.

However, I was looking at the code and saw that ext_fscommand2 was a recurring command throughout. If I am not mistaken, this is an 'extended' or 'external'/'extra' version of fscommand2, an actionscript command that passes code to another program...in this case, the D2 firmware. That explains why, when testing the swf, only the default text appears...and the default text can be changed in size, etc, with appearance changing in testing. However, due to the command being passed by the external program, we cannot modify it too easily.

seems to be the code snippet by which the album/artist/text is displayed, but I'm lost as to where to go from there. I tried adding
ext_fscommand2("album", "setSize", 18);, as the first parameter seems to be the function to be executed by the outside program, and the second seems to be command to execute that with. I.E. for the function album, get information from _root.tAlbum.text, a file that contain the album, and is allocated in the memory. In other places, the fscommand2 command is used with one or three commands...ext_fscommand2("volume", "set", _loc2);
ext_fscommand2("next");
so my guess is that each of these functions have predefined characteristics.

Obviously, my attempt at changing the album text size changed, as I have no access to the commands within the album function. Maybe our korean friends may be able to snoop around on the korean forums and find this out, but unless I'm wrong, it will be difficult to figure out how to change the text size..so difficult that it may not be worth your time, fishfutter.

OK I solved my album art problems ! The software I used to download and embed the album art yesterday did not embed it the right way. I used media monkey today to re embed all album art and now it works perfectly fine ^^

To preview music.swf files with no need to install them in your D2 player use a normal PC player as MPC (Media player Classic) which is free.

It will allow to see where are the playable buttons (showing windows hand), how they change when pressed, even slide the sliders [yes]

well thats how I did it but since I use the v1.11 UI it wont work ?
I choose a icon I want to replace.
And then I import the new icon by double clicking on the .bmp file in the right hand bmb index and choosing "Import...".
Now the new Icon replaces the old one but it still has the same size as the old one, and only a part of the image shows (depending on size).

I dont know then, I am not having any problems but I dont use the import option I generally just drag and drop the new images from my desktop or wherever into the library window in Flash CS3. Double clock on the image I want to change and delete it, then drag the new image from the library into place.

properties pallet...change it to button/movie/graphic, swap the instance to the button you want it to be (based on the previous definition.

I'll probably have time to make a theme sometime after Christmas, and maybe I'll try to investigate Cowon's use of action script and compile a tutorial or something for changing functionality

question: does the artist and track scroll names scroll if it doesn't fit into that little gap? also where's the album name, a lot of the time the artist and album name aren't spelled out on the cover (at least not for me and the music i listen to).

ok, the slight pain in the neck is when the title is long it doesn't switch back and forth or doesn't have a path to where it scrolls(like in the Default Theme). second is some times Album displays only half way but that maybe of the size.

@FURR - Yes I hate it to ! the problem is that in order to make the text scroll if its to long, is that you would have to allign it to the left/right. I'm sure there is a comand to make it scroll, but I don't know it. Do you know how to make it scroll even if the text is centered ?

@victorvd - I'm not planning on making a version with a brogress bar (sorry).
I had an idea and I will see about it but at the moment I have other things on my mind ^^

I know that it isn't easy to pack all this info in a good looking UI on such a small screen, but it would be nice...

I am not the only one who noticed that - just read some posts above!

Maybe it also depends on which skin you are using - i used Black future flash skin and my D2 reacted very slowly, it often took 2 SECS as I wrote above!

And this is not normal feature - this is new feature.

I see many problems with Flash Skins: in fact, tha album art "cover.jpg" contains in a folder, it's not yet update automatically when we change music.
also many Idtags don't appear correctly yet, it's appear correctly with the "default skin".
But this kind of Flash Skin will be very cool when it will be fix. I will try to work on it

ratiay, when i use any of Fishfutter's Skins the only bug i get out of it is when you pause a song and switch to the next and play it the Album art doesn't show. also when a song finishes and goes to the next the Album Art/Title/Artist doesn't refresh. with Skin cinema and Renovatio i believe that refresh is fixed but mainly these bugs i mentioned are Firmware bugs. hopefully Cowon will release another Firmware that will fix these issues.

I did that in the new Renovatio Skin.
There the Play/Pause button is in the middle and you have to press the album art.
I might work on that, but the next days I'll be really busy and than I will be gone over newjear till january 8th.

so I was playing around with the .ac files included in this (autoconf files that are included as libraries in the 'official source') and it seems I know a little less than I originally thought about actionscript. Its quite a bit different than java and c/++/#.

However, good news is that all of these files are pretty well commented, etc. Should make it easy for people to learn stuff.

Furthermore, I did a little experiment and tried putting one of the SWFs in the flash folder. Turns out hopes of a flash music player through this are hopeless, you can't access music from outside in the flash player in utilities.

MadMan's iT2 Skin is wonderful!

MadMan's Skin fixes the refresh issue. now when the next song plays it refreshes! updates Album Art/Artist/Title/Album

Bug(or maybe the Image file) some Album Art doesn't display all the way. only displays half-way.

Except with one album; if I play songs of that albums, the D2 freezes if I'm using the iT2 skin. Don't know what's causing it.

@FURR: possibly your embedded coverart is not square as it only displays at its original dimensions.

@Judge: check the size of the embedded coverart for that album, if it is quite large the flash may be struggling to resize it.

@FURR: that can't be the case, it's all MP3 with same ID3 format as well.

Edit: size of that particular album art is 660x650. I'll check with a different album with even bigger album art embedded.

Edit2: tried with an album with embedded album art of 1411x1414 pixels. Album art doesn't show up, but the song plays fine and the D2 doesn't freeze.

Edit3: I think it's a bug in the Flash UI with album art indeed. I compared the Flash UI with the normal now playing screen. The results are:
- normal now playing screen:
-- 500x500 or smaller: album art loads fine
-- bigger than 500x500, such as 660x650: album art loads fine
-- huge, such as 1411x1414: album art doesn't even load
- Flash UI:
-- 500x500 or smaller: album art loads fine
-- bigger than 500x500, such as 660x650: album art tries to load, but D2 freezes
-- huge, such as 1411x1414: album art doesn't even load, therefore D2 doesn't freeze either

Solution: time to resize big album art to 500x500 or smaller.

This is weird.

I just tried a different album I just embedded with 650x650 album art. It works fine in both the normal now playing screen and the Flash UI. Must be something else. I'll do some finer research.

Edit: I changed the size of the 660x650 album art to 650x650, now it works fine...

Edit2: I changed the size of the 1411x1414 album art to 650x650 as well, works fine now too.

Bad news ! I will be using FW 3.51 from now on !
So I won't work on any Flash skins[sad] I would love to use 3.53 but it just won't work with the 16GB SDHC card I got for christmas !
I will write a e-mail to cowon and telling them to fix the problem but I don't expect them to [cursing]
I'm sorry and sad because I really enjoyed makeing Flash Skins and being creative.
Like I said before, I'll be gone for 10 days over newyear and if cowon releases the new 2.53 with flash ui and my SDHC card works with it than I'll be back to makeing Skins.

Fishfutter, when I used your last work, renovatio, I had a bug. When I tried to enter in the music part, a message had said something like "flash error" before to return to the main menu (with a very bad noise).
I had to turn off the D2 (it took a bit of time).

Did someone ever had something like that ? I'll probably try it again later...

Yea it works just fine with 3.51 and 2.51, but I want to work on flash skins and use them as well. So that's really a problem.

we'll see, I might make another skin when I come back from my newyear trip ^^

Are you using 3.53 Final ?Yes, I use this one.
It's the first time I can see this error (with renovatio, my favorite) . I've tested most of the flash skins available here (as yours), without any troubles ; but there is no evidence that it is due to renovatio (that's what worries me).

The first error has appeared when I used the arrows to change the track (to display covers). I would like to test with others flash skins but I'm affraid to block my D2. [no]

Anyway, Renovatio is one of the nicest skins to display the covers! [thumbsup]

I can't find a way to add a bookmark (Not Dpl) when using a flash skin - also the flash skin should indicate time longer than 1 hour for long tracks.

I'm finding that even with Renovatio, the album art I have in each music folder (that I titled cover.jpg, and works with the non-Flash UI) still isn't loading. Is this a Firmware issue, or something to do with the flash UI? Both music and cover art is stored on the player itself, not on a memory card. Using 3.53Final FW.

I did that in the new Renovatio Skin.
There the Play/Pause button is in the middle and you have to press the album art.
I might work on that, but the next days I'll be really busy and than I will be gone over newjear till january 8th.

The album art doesn't work in the Renevatio Skin. (I use ogg files with a cover.jpg)
And I still like the iPhone Skin more. [yes]

P.S. I have embedded all my album art using Mp3tag. Album art now works flawlessly with the Flash Skins.

Hmm...

I have downloaded a skin into the SYSTEM folder, calling it "music.swf".

I go to Settings > Display and... nothing about skins.

Are there any other steps? What am I missing?

Whenever I try to do a firmware upgrade that isn't 2.*, nothing happens. Is there any way around this? Sorry for being so unknowledgeable about how things work regarding this.

I've been on 2.xx firmwares before I upgraded to 3.53, and my D2 upgraded just fine. You did the three-step upgrade process right? (first folder 0 contents, disconnect, upgrade, reconnect, folder 1 contents, disconnect, upgrade, reconnect, folder 2 contents, disconnect, upgrade)

I'm not sure why 3.XX won't install for you I have had no problem with it on my 2.XX version player.

I never got past step one. I would put the folder 0 contents into the SYSTEM folder, disconnect (after unmounting it first, of course), turn it on, and... nothing would happen. It would just do what it does normally, although the boot time is increased in the first power-up after putting the file there. After that, it acts as if I hadn't changed anything.

At first I thought that it was because my D2 was defective, and then I thought it was because I was trying to put 4.*/3.* firmware on one with 2.* firmware, but now I just don't know.

I was able to upgrade it from 2.51 to 2.53b, though. That worked exactly like it was supposed to.

EDIT: Also, can someone quickly explain what the difference is between the 2.xx, 3.xx, and 4.xx firmwares? At first I thought that the higher the number, the more recent the firmware (as in 4.51 is more recent than 2.53), but then I thought that the major version number denoted the hardware version that it would run on (my player would only take 2.xx firmwares, your player would only take 3.xx firmwares, and someone else's player would only take 4.xx firmwares), but now I'm totally confused.

Madman have you got a fix for album art not displaying yet? Basically some album art doesn't display on your skin but if I disable the flash skin it does display in the normal one. I think some of the album art aren't the exact square size.

I lvoe your skin just that if my mp3 aren't embedded there's a chance it won't display cover.jpg :(

I hope there's a fix for this.

The flash UI wont display cover.jpg there would have to be a remote file call code to do this and as I have been only playing with flash since the release of 3.53 so I have no idea about what code would be needed. Although I have no problems with embedded album art, it all seems to display for me but other have and re-embedding the art may fix the problem.

Hey man, I really love your Cinema v.1 skin, the huge album art is really awesome, after installing it I spent like 20 minutes just listening music and watching all the big covers, what a difference from the default theme.

I just wanted to report some bugs/errors I have found and I have some suggestions too.

First the bugs:

* The first song you play doesn't show album art. It could be the first song you play after turning on the player or if you went to listen to radio/watch a video/play a game/use the notepad and come back to music, the first song will not have album art.

* If you fast forward to the next song it will change the album art, but if the song ends and goes to the next, it will not update the album art automatically unless you turn of the screen or go to the menu and come back or something.

There was another one but I can't remember it now.

Next the suggestions:

* Looking at your new skins seems that by now you know how to put the play/pause button on the coverart, you could implement that on this skin and you could use the play button space to put an EQ button or something else. Plus it would be easier to use ;)

* (this is me being picky) Why is the button used to go to the tracklist labeled "B"? Back? Button?... I think an icon like a list would look more integrated with the whole skin design, and it would be more clear what the button does.

I think that's it, I am using firmware 3.53 and once again thank you very much for taking the time to create all those skins.

Keep it up, looking forward to Cinema v.2 ;)

I'm using the IT2 skin right now, which I'm liking right now (except for the fact that the B folder button is too small, and too much in the corner of the screen, Madman if you fixed this (maybe if you reversed the positions of Folder and JetEffect buttons)you'd have an even better theme). I would use the Revolutio, but there doesn't seem to be a button that takes you directly to the JetEffect settings.

However, one thing I'm seeing with all skins is that there's a lack of actual file information, such as the bitrate of the song, as well as what format it's in (Mp3, WMA, APE, OGG, etc.), as well as which Equalizer is being used. Would it possible to add these in in future revisions and skins?

Update: Since the time of writing this thread, I've reverted back to the use of the non-flash UI, as it was causing huge lag with the top buttons of the D2, both when locked and unlocked. There was a huge delay in waking the player up when the LCD turns up, as well as changing tracks when button lock is engaged. Not sure if all skins are like this, but I've noticed a hit in responsiveness during music playback with most skins.

I've got something new about the flash error ; the message is something like "finished flash because some error has occured".

I think the message appeared when I've used the virtual motion to scroll the music in file mode. Then the screen goes on the utilities menu. When I return on the music menu... the screen freezes and becomes white - and weird.
I had to use the power button to turn off the D2 (it did this with a big noise).

I've seen this error two times this evening (with Vertigo flash skin, by madmad), but I can't reproduce it when I want. It seems it isn't due to virtual motion...

Finaly, I always don't know what is the reason of this error. Am I alone to have this problem?

I wanted to add my two cents to the whole flash-skins-feature - especially the two I tried. I tried Fishfutters renovatio and the one from Madman (IT2). First of all: Thanks! I appreciate your enthusiasm. I guess I speak for everyone around here! Thanks a lot.
But unfortunatly the whole feature doesnt seems to be quite ready: It shows lots of promise, but it is very unreliable, which may have to do with firmware issues or with people just being in the beginning stages of experimenting with the feature.
1. I tried different ways of implementing cover arts with the result, that it sometimes worked and sometimes didnt - up to the point, that the songs wouldnt be played.
2. I miss some things in fishfutters skin and others at madmans skin. But that is a question of personal taste I guess: I miss the progress bar in fishfutters skin, which is niceley implemented at madmans skin; madman wasted a little too much space at the bottom of the screen in my opinion. But, as mentioned, a question of personal taste. Some buttons are to small in madmans skin... But, as before this is a question of preference...
Concerning the bugs, I am happy to explain them in detail, if this helps developing. However: Keep up the work, I like the direction in which your work is going.
Hope my post didnt strike you (fishfutter and madman) as ungrateful. Guys like you are the heart and soul of a site like this one (I am just a leech). Thanks for your work again. Indeed: Thanks to all you developers out there.
