View Full Version : X5 Firmware uppgrade quiestions
Hi!
I have firmware version 2.01-e
Anyone know what -e is standing for... European version? (I live in Sweden)
I have seen the 2.04 release but is it later than 2.01-e ?
Maby 2.01-e is "Equal" for 2.04?
or different firmware for different regions eg. US Asia Europa etc.
Please post if anyone know about this!
and why is this new firmware only availabe from Koren site?
Not on the US or other sites.
Regards
/Mats :-)

I would GUESS E stands for europe. things that could be different in Korean vs. European firmware:
- FM regions
- Interface language (I assume the Korean version can be run with english interface, not 100%)
- Output... I've heard some rumours about some french law that passed recently that all portable players can have max 16mw output at 16 Ohm. (Really sucks for the majority of use who run 32 ohm headphones). Unless there is a specific French firmware release, I guess all european units are crippled to be in accordance with the french law. [A reason never to do european firmware update]
I am 99% sure there is no problem updating to the Korean firmware. Just as a precaution, I'd first check the keypress sequence to language settings before doing so.
However, the detailed reviews will be out in the matter of days, and I am sure we will hear more about what the firmware does and what it does not. Might as well run the unit with the original FW for a week until you got some credible information.
thanks for your posts!
I wounder if the korean version has all the features as the european eg filesupport video support?
Or possible better support? :-)
is it possible to flashback downgrade? just copy in my original firmware in...
Has anyone tried to defrag the disk?
because itīs Fat32 i think there will be no problem.
Is it possible to format the drive?
what dirs must be backed upp before doning so?
anyone tried this? or thinking about this ?

Surely as it's UMS you can format and defrag it in Windows. It may not show up in MS Defrag though.
I'd be surprised if you can't downgrade the firmware.

Version 2.01 -e will not be the same as 2.04. I am not sure what the -e stands for considering the firmware is supposed to be multilingual. I would guess it is actually something like a patch number:
e.g.
2.01 -e
deciphered as:
<major version>.<minor version> - <patch version>
Usually these are just another number at the end like:
2.01.05
Maybe this is Cowon's way of doing it... that's my guess.
