Does the X5L change the size of the X5 unit?

Yep. Size, excluding the LCD 'hump' is as follows:

iAUDIO X5 : 4.08 X 2.39 X 0.56 inches (103.7 X 60.8 X 14.3 mm), 5.11 oz (145g)
iAUDIO X5L : 4.08 X 2.39 X 0.72 inches (103.7 X 60.8 X 18.3 mm), 6.35 oz (180g)

The X5 stats here are for the 20-30GB versions. The 60GB X5 will apparently come in the same size case as the X5L. HTH.
