View Full Version : A small cheap camera for X5 (usb otg)
Hi all!
I'm looking for a really small camera (size of a pen or a little box) and the cheapest possible to use it with my futur X5...
It would stay connected to my usb otg port and take picture / maybe movies just like a cellphone camera...
I don't know if you see what I'm looking for...
Also do you think my logitech webcam will work (is it ums?)
Somethin like that maybe but much smaller...

What do you think?

Ummm...yikes... about the only thing I can say is that your webcam won't work with the X5.
Actually you're best bet probably would be a phone that is UMS compliant... but I don't know of any. That is a very interesting proposition however, Etienne. A UMS...or more specifically USB-OTG compatible mobile phone would certainly make sense. I doubt any exist at the moment but I definitely think it is something that we will see more and more of as there is increasing demand to connect mobile devices together via a standard mechanism bypassing the PC all together.
My only fear is that a company like apple will go and f**k it all up by creating something like "firewire on the go" and make life hard for us all by introducing another standard. That is the very last thing we need with all the competing standards we have right now....
hey thats a nice camera for rc planes and helis. you can see that the connector of that cam is for rc receivers for hitec and futaba receivers.
good point, me like many others will be going on holis soon and i intended too leech of others photos with OTG. a cheap, small, but fairly decent camera would be good.

I'm not sure I got what you mean, but if you want to have the camera hooked to x5 like a webcam to a computer, I don't think that'll work.
What you can do with USBTG is to see your camera's memorycard in your x5 as a diskdrive, and copy files between the two.
What you cannot do, is to have a direct connectivity, so you could have a camera saving images on X5, you would need specific drivers for that.
You can always use a cheap camera, or even camera telephone (such as motorola A920, that was for a while given out by three with no commitments) that saves photos on Secure Digital or compact flash, then connect a card reader to your X5
You wouldn't need to do that, you could connect directly to the camera, only thing is that the camera needs some kind of independent memory and you would have to take the files off manually.
