Just wanted to let you all in on some good news. I just did a battery test on my X5 20 GB and it's a very good result.

Okay, with all jetEffects off, EQ Flat, volume level 20 with my PX200 connected, 90 % of my files 128 kbps mp3s and 10% 192 kbps mp3s and no using of the controls and screen I got a little over 15 hours of playback time. That's pretty good if you ask me.

I'll do some tests with 192 kbps VBR oggs ripped by jetAudio soon.

Review is coming on well - I'm on about 10 pages pure text right now (heaps of details).

Nice one eXity (look I spelt it correctly ;D).

So we're getting two reviews? From Austin also.

Just doing the ogg tests. Just hit the 13 hour mark and still playing. Will this thing ever stop?

fun to know that ogg doesnt kill battery in a excessive way like some others players do

also fun that a 12hours battery life will be for a normal and not the dont touch anything.

Using the device, like switching songs, browsing, etc, will degrade the battery life significantly more (1-2hrs atleast).

But still 13hrs for Mp3 and 11hrs for OGG is fairly good still.

Just after I posted that message the player did actually stop.

So it's 13 hours for 192 kbps VBR ogg files. I'll do some FLAC level zero (or were they level 2?) files tomorrow.

eXity,
I think u should do some FLAC level 8 compression tests!!!

jam, I think I don't have enough time to do every bloody test in the whole world.

The problem is that a battery life test takes me about 2 days to do. It's because of he complicated long hours I am working at the moment and the times I have to charge my player and when I can check the battery etc. etc. etc. I don't even know yet if I will manage a FLAC test at all. I hope I will, but I can't promise anything.

No problem,
it was just a suggestion (cause Flac maximum compression is level 8)
However, good job eXity!!! ;-)

eXity, can you do a video (or photo) test please (with screen always on) ?
That shouldn't be very long. ;)
Thanks

You've done OGG and MP3 I presume, are about to do FLAC. What about WMA please?

I'm guessing WMA 96Kbps would last longer than OGG 192Kbps but by how much?

What kind of batteries does it take?

What kind of batteries does it take?
Integrated Lithium ion battery. Same as all other HDD Digital Audio Players out there.

Hello eXity/someone with an X5,

Thanks for your tests. Everyone should now have the idea of how the battery will last in playback.

However one additional test would be very interesting.
Could you test the batterylife for FLAC recording (line-in)?
I think writing large files to a HD consumes more battery than just reading.

I'm thinking of buying either an X5-30GB or the L-version..

I think there are also other people interested in this piece of information.

Thanks

Iwaal the thing is we all want different tests. I don't give two hoots how good FLAC is as I'll never use it.

I'm interested in WMA as CD, WMA, MP3, OGG, FLAC, WAVE all sound the same to me (assuming you're using decent bit-rates) but WMA at 96KBps is the smallest of the lot before I notice a quality drop.

MP3 at 96Kbps sounds awful and OGG at 96Kbps is larger than WMA + uses more battery power.

Knowing the battery life for FLAC recording would be nice. However, I think we need to get Cowon to add FLAC recording first...

Or even WAV recording.

LOL oh yeah. I've just noticed what Iwaal has written.
