It might be in June or July, if not later.....:-) ....who knows. It's been almost 7months now sifting through rumors and hear says about the M5 and X5. A few more months is not that bad...is it? I just hope they Cowon ships enough so I don't get that annoying response from the sales person "sorry your order is on back order" .

It seems like when it comes to DAPs, no matter which company it is, the dates are always up in the air. I can't think of many other consumer product categories where this is the case.
Anyway, unless Cowon are having trouble with their suppliers and/or distributors, I can't imagine why we would have to wait longer than late May or early June. The X5 has obviously been in production for weeks now...

The only definite thing is that we don't know anything definite.
The X5 has been in production for weeks...manufacturing should be completely ramped up by now (unless, as I mentioned, they're having problems with their suppliers). I'm sure there are plenty of them to go around in Korea. I doubt they're flying off the shelves faster than they can build them.
I will be impressed if they're avaliable by next week. But I'll also be pretty annoyed if we don't get any sort of definite word either way. If they're not here by June, I think I'm going to buy a metal brown M3 and be done with it.
I can't figure out what could be delaying them. And I find it almost incomprehensible that we don't have definite word of US availability, seeing as they've been rolling off the line for some time now...
The waiting game continues...*sigh*

I don't think so. Pessimism would be something like "this thing is NEVER going to come out" or "Cowon are just playing games with us again."
My observations and opinions, as well as those of others, are well-founded and completely realistic.

You and I are in the same boat. Except I have till June 20, and even I'm still worried. June 1 is my deadline before I go and buy something else, but I have international shipping to contend with.
I just got an answer from k55.ch, a SWISS DAP-Shop, where you can pre-order it too. What they said?
- the x5 20GB/30GB with english handbook are somewhere between southkorea and switzerland. it should be here around may 10th, but it could get a bit later due to custom, etc.
- the x5L and the x5 with multilingual handbook is expected to get here 10 days later...that would be around may 20th.
- the only info they have from cowon about the x5 60GB is that it will be ready "hopefully end june"

Great news Tombo, I'm Swiss too ! So according to k55.ch the X5 could be in stores in less than a week !
I do find it strange why, if its ready, its taking them so damn long to get it to shops. The new Sony started off going to be released a month AFTER the X5 - now it looks as if they'll be released at the same time.
Well, isn't it supposed to be released 9th of may here in europe? (atleast it is here in sweden)
If so you can buy it over here on your trip can't you? (of course you won't have it on your trip to europe and unless you have a laptop with you you probably can't listen to so much music (maybe put some mp3s on a digital camera and USB OTG it over to the x5 :) )
The power adapter is supposed to work in US and europe as far as I know (you just need a converter for the 'pins')..

my friend in Korea says he can get me one for $500, but the rep told me it'd be $349 on their site. HMMM . . .

I don't think that means much, considering we (yet again) don't know prices or dates.
I'm sure "preordering" a 30gig involves them writing down your name and number on a legal pad (or maybe even Excel spreadsheet!) with the understanding that they will call back once price and avaliability is known.
Either that, or someone really does know and has just decided to play an evil game with us. :)

The price for the 30gb is kind high. It was initially priced at $349. After saving all my pennies, nickles and dimes I could have just....afford it guess I have to go with the $20gb. :-) kidding of course. $399.00 still is not bad but with out the remote and docking station it makes it a little unattractive in price. So lets see....$399 for x5, $30 for case, $30 for dock, $30 for decent hear phones or ear buds. I say I'll be spending well over $500 US plus shipping and handling for this. Cowon ....for "the love ah God" it had better be the best Damn player I had ever layed eyes and hands on.

Given she is in a retail business and she has no control over when she receives her inventory, she has no way of giving us an exact date. She, like any other retail op, is at the mercy of her supplier. So when she says "any day now", her guess is as good as ours. For all we know, they could be held up in customs.

Whoa. No reputable business charges for goods before they are shipped. Does anyone know Suntec's policy on this?
And yes, if they were honest and said they had no idea I would buy from them. It's not like they're going to get the X5 any sooner or later than anyone else. They don't have much to lose, and a lot to gain.
What about video game reservations? Or do they not charge you until they recieve it?

Most places will reserve a copy for you and you are not charged until it is shipped or until you come in to pick it up.
I would not do business with any retailer that charges an account or attempts to collect payment before goods are shipped. It's idiotic, unethical, and unprofessional.
It sounds like Cowon does the same thing my company does, and ships via ocean freight. Other wise known as big container ships. That would explain the delay between Korean availability and everywhere else, as well as the slight uncertainty in arrival dates.

But I still can't figure out why they (Cowon) aren't making a big deal out of this launch or giving us solid dates. This is an important product for them, and this is probably one of the most hush-hush launches in history!!

I just got a U2 from SunTec a week or two ago, it's barely been used at all - I'm trying to sell it since I plan on getting the X5L instead, but I'm not having much luck. What do you recommend?
I've posted on various forums, and currently have it for sale on Amazon.com. I don't want to lose much money on it (after all, it's barely been used! It's practically new.) I could send it back to SunTec, but they'd charge me a 15% restocking fee, which equates to $30 US. That's a significant loss. Would eBay be a better bet? If so, what starting price do you recommend? Should I lower my price on Amazon.com (right now it's at $180) ?
This isn't just the player - it's the AC Adapter and iAudio armband. Damn... I wish I would have looked at ALL my options more before purchasing a player. I just assumed that a flash-based would best suit my needs, since it has in the past.

Hey all, I'm new to the forums and have never owned a DAP until hopefully very soon when I buy the iAudio X5. I wanted to ask zaphanathpaneah how he knows that Suntec will be getting the X5 this friday exactly, because I am eagerly waiting for the X5 to arrive at Suntec. Also I wanted to know if you guys suggested that I pre-order it on Suntec, or wait for it to arrive and order it. I would appreciate any help or comments and I hope to become one of the persons who ons the great iAudio X5:)
He meant last friday, I would look to somewhere else to purchase since suntec is a little messed up right now.
Another friday is passing by and there is still no X5 30gb... Is there any chance of getting an X5 30gb from Suntec before 2006 left at all???

For some reason Cowon claims to be out of stock of the 30 now, but will let you buy a 30 bundled with a G3. I guess they have a lot of G3 256s they want to get rid of?

i cancelled my order with suntec over a week ago. i have yet to see a credit, after leaving multiple voicemails and emails - so i'm giving them till this weekend, then i'm siccing the Paypal dogs on them. i really wish i had ordered by credit card . . .

I too cancelled my order from Suntec about two weeks ago but I am still waiting for my $299.99 to return back to me. They told me the refund would come back in about a week, but im still waiting...

how did you pay for yours? if you paid by credit card, just dispute the charge . . . they really can't say anything since you never received the merchandise.
i cancelled through the form on the site and got a message back within 24 hours, but i think this may have been before everyone realised you can get it quicker from Cowon =p

Today, I got this message from Suntec:
"Hi (my name),
Can you confirm your billing address, and the last 4 digits of your
credit card?"
The message was from Stephanie herself which means she is back. I guess the temp really did relay my message to Stephanie. I replied ASAP because I really want my refund. Possibly, Suntec is back in shape? I really hope they are.

Yep, they are starting to get back in shape now that Stephanie is back from Japan. I got a message from Stephanie saying that my refund will be issued today, and also a refund confirmation e-mail.
If you want your refund/cancellation, I say give 'em an e-mail now.

well, Suntec has gotten on my last nerve. Paypal couldn't recover the money from them, i emailed them back and heard nothing . . . i'm going to call tomorrow and if i don't get in touch with them, i dunno . . . legal action? any suggestions?

After I sent out a response, they e-mailed me back in about two days along with a receipt and i got my refund back.
