I did a search, but nothing came up.
Well, in preperation of receiving my X5 (hopefully next week) I need to start reorganizing my music collection. Is there any software that you guys (and girls) can recommend. I've used EZMP3 Organizer in the past, but it wasn't so great and my collection is bigger now. I prefer to organize it
Letter of Artist->Artist->Album->Track
Also, does anyone know if the X5 recognizes track numbers off the bat? The H3** has some problem with it and organizes alphabetically. That's a pain in the patoot if you have full albums.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

tag&rename is a good app to rename files and change id3 tags. That's what I use.
I can almost guarantee you the X5 does not recognises id3 tag track numbers. That is why track number should always come before the track title, because most players still organise stuff alphanumerically and that way it will work on pretty much any player.
I'm hopefully going to be able to use iTunes - it organises all your music in Artist > Album > Track Num Track Name.
You can specify the external drive under the 'iTunes Music location folder'. The best of both worlds... an mp3 player much better and more flexible than an iPod yet their pretty nifty software to organise and play my music once hooked up to my computer!
I would say the X5 will behave the same as the M3 and all my tracks play in album order.
How or Why I just don't care, it just does it!

I use "The Godfather" to tag and rename my MP3s. The UI of it takes getting used to but the functions are very complete...

Stupid question possibly but was is wrong with "Windows Explorer"? It's what I use.
I don't care what my ID3Tags show as I don't use them and besides they're read only in WMA files.
Surely it's best to rename each filename to something like? :
01. Song (Artist).mp3
02. Song (Artist).mp3

I don't care about my ID3 tag information. I'm looking for a program to actually pull individual songs into corresponding folders and build a fle-tree suitable for the X5. I guess I'll go with the EZ program. As for playing by track #, awesome. Cause that was a huge pain in the 300

Please explain? What didn't it do?
The X5/M3 CAN read ID3Tag info, what it DOESN'T do is form a database of the information. I don't know how the X5/M3 organises files (by name or tag) but according to IG88 it goes by tag.
i use mediamonkey, it renames, organizes and plays tracks, besides it also has some useful features like playlist, organize playlists, free database, amazon information, etc

Fido
please clarify. What you are saying is that when a song is playing on the x5 the id3 tag info is displayed but you just can't browse by tag info?
Yes, creating a database is more work than simply reading the tag, they don't have much demand for it in korea (their primary market) so it isn't a priority for them. It is possible that it may be implemented in the future.

Can you set it to display the filename instead?

Sorry, I got ahead of myself with what I was typing 'cause I was in a hurry. But yeah, that's what I mean. I just want something to clean up the files I have in windows explorer and make everything (somewhat accurate)
Thanks for the hep.
I was actually responding to korinengel, I should have quoted him.
X5 organizes files by the name. Tagging is only used in playmode, unless you select otherwise.
MY METHOD:
Folders:
BROWSER >> MUSIC >> GENRE >> ARTIST >> ALBUM >> TRACK
EXAMPLES:
BROWSER >> MUSIC >> ROCK >> The Mars Volta >> France the Mute >> 01 Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus - Sarcophagi
BROWSER >> VIDEO >> MOVIE >> The Anchorman (2004)
And yes, you must name the files yourself, the X5 will not recognize the track numbers. Leave me any questions.

Tag&rename lets you change the file names based on the ID3 tag information. You must have the correct ID3 tags before you rename the file. Though you only need those bits of the ID3 tags that are going into the name such as artist, album, track number, song title. So long as that information is all correct you just check a little box next to the track and then click Rename! Whalla! Isn't that what you want???
Edit:
Sorry...must have missed this comment:

Yeah I just create the folders as I need them in explorer and then tidy up all my file names with tag&rename. Not sure if it can do folders...never tried but since wmp creates all those folders for you by default it hasn't been much of an issue for me.
Seriously, iTunes is your best bet... if you can stand the nasty Apple aftertaste.
Nah... Itunes is bloat ware. Try out MediaMonkey.
Its lightweight, easily customized, sounds great, encodes, decodes many formats, and is a mass tagger renamer.
For something alittle more advanced check out Jriver Media Center.

I don't think itunes actually rearranges your music. Correct me if I am wrong.

Nope, sorry can't stand it... I hate to even have quicktime installed on my PC. There is just something about apple and PC's that is like mixing oil and water. I'll stick with what I know with good'ol explorer. Plus I hate iTunes because of its very design to use DRM and help propagate the apple monopoly.

iTunes can arrange your music and does a very good job at it too... Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Keep iTunes Music folder organized.
I know it's almost sacrilege to use Apple software on PCs, but the way it organises music and makes it so easy to create smart playlists on the fly is just perfect for me.
I wouldn't get an iPod though because they don't work as a mass storage device, and you have to 'register' with one computer. An X5 with iTunes is my perfect mix.

Will it not work if you try it on another? What if you re-format your computer?
